    Protein !:-(

What guidelines did your doctor give you? My doctor said to focus on getting at least 15gm of Protein, no more than 15gm of sugar per 8 ounce serving keeping in mind that most premade drinks might be more than 8 ounces. I was told not to worry too much about fat & carbs because you simply aren't taken in enough for it to have much impact. I as given the Prosource in the hospital which made me feel good about taking that. I also liked that it was flavorless and mixed well with hot or cold.

Health Rules Vs. Weight Loss Rules

Apple juice is concentrated sugar and since you're not taking in a lot right now you really don't want the majority of that to be sugar. In the long run it's not going to be good for you. I would speak to the doctor about it. Perhaps drinking slower might help. At a minimum I would suggest diluting the apple juice at least by 50%.
  4. Anything else. Number 1 is drink Water because we often confuse thirst with hunger. After that literally anything else. Go for a walk. Do 10 jumpjacks, start singing songs at the top of your lungs. It's a mind game and it takes a long time for the head hunger to go away. If all else fails. Go ahead and have that beefy/gravy thing. Just try and think of a way to recreate it in a healthier variety. The beefy part will be your Protein. Just keep the portion size reasonable.
  5. I'mm pretty much like @Lipsticklady. I don't share anything I don't want to and I don't I owe people answers to questions I don't care to discuss. I don't think No is a bad word, neither to I think directly saying, "I don't discuss my weight" is being rude. It's being honest. That said, even before I considered WLS and I started changing my eating habits and working out, I always told people I wasn't in a diet. I don't believe in diets so I told them then and I tell them now, I am making adjustments in my eating habits in order to be healthier.

    Protien, water & vitamin intake

Are you on full liquids? I would drink my shakes during the day and at night I had pureed bean soup. That savory break in the evening was the only thing that got me through and I only had to do full liquids for 2 weeks.

    Hungry!

When I was on full liquids post op I thought I was hungry, but in retrospect I think I just wanted to chew. Now that I can eat, I don't have much of an appetite at all.

    Avacado

All the time. I was a big avocado eater pre-op. I probably ate them almost daily. I put them on eggs, diced over soup, smushed as a condiment in mock chicken or egg salad. I probably eat about and 8th of one at a time. I then store the rest in a small tupperware container with lime juice to prevent browning.
  9. I'm not recommending this, I think it was just a perfect storm of unusual circumstances for me.
  10. I didn't decline the sleep study. The sleep center wanted to retest & the ins co. refused. I stayed long enough for the tech to run all the test. They just never got me sleeping because I couldn't sleep with the mask on.
  11. I had what I know realize is an odd experience. I did the sleep study. Hated it because I had a spastic bladder and it was s pain in the but having the tech come unhook me to go to the bathroom all night. I also expected to fail because I have trigemenal neuralgia on the left side of my face from a bout with shingles and abnormally large tonsils that I've had since I was a teen. I typically sleep on my tummy or my side. I knew sleeping on my back would product bad results. So I get results & they dx mild apnea. I have to come back for cpap fitting & it's a perfect storm of awful. They want to try a face mask because i sleep with my mouth open because only one nostril works due to the neuralgia. The face mask pressed against my sinuses and caused pain. I couldn't sleep one bit! Then I have to pee. By 2:30am I told the tech I couldn't do this anymore. I went home. Few days later the sleep doctor calls & they wanted to retest but ins. Turned them down. They ordered a general machine. I already had my surgery date. I called doctor to let them know. They were fine with it. I had my surgery & never used cpap while in the hospital. Other than bathroom breaks I had no issues sleeping and now that I've had the surgery I'm not up more than once a night and often not at all for bathroom breaks. My previous sleep study prior to wls didn't show any apnea so I'm fairly certain it was weight related. Guess I dodged a bullet, but all my appointments were scheduled fairly quickly.
  12. I can see 1 or 2 months, but 3 is ridiculous. It shouldn't take that long.
  13. But that doesn't take 3mths. I was told if I had it they would schedule me for a second study to be fitted with the cpap machine & then my own machine would be ordered. That shouldn't take more than a month tops.

    Protein !:-(

You know that saying, you gotta kiss a lot of frogs until you find your Prince Charming? That's what the search for the right Protein drink is. My doctor gave me a list that was a full page front and back of Protein shakes, drinks and powders. It took forever going through that list. I had to rule out stuff I didn't like and stuff I was allergic to. You'd be surprised how many have stevia in them. I went to various drug stores like GNC & Vitamin shop as well as the Rite Aid/CVS types and bought single servings. Next I hit up Whole Foods and bought a few single serving packs there as well. Finally I ordered a few online. It took me 2 weeks to go through them all to find a few that I like the taste of. I ended up with 3: Prosource Plus liquid Protein unflavored. - This was good for mixing in Soups or tea. Ordered online. Orgain Organics premixed drinks - This was great for on the go. Price point was relatively low. I buy these at Walgreen's drug store. CVS whey powder. - I mix these with almond milk. I like the high protein content. Also mixes well with plain greek yogurt for a really great 1-2 punch of protein. Comes in vanilla or chocolate flavors. I buy it at CVS drug store. Other options are plain, greek yogurt thinned with low fat or fat free milk. This is an acquired taste. Plain yogurt is not sweet at all. However mixed with a bit of fruit or whey powder can be pretty tasty. Kefir drinks. They come in many flavors. I prefer Lifeway brand.
  15. You're starting over. Think back to when you first began to work out. You had to work up those strenuous workouts. Your 2 month hiatus has reset the clock and you are back at square one. Go slow and regularly. As for the leg pain, take care to stretch before hand. Wear compression pants and get in your potassium. Eat a banana or drink coconut water before working out.

    Artificial Sweeteners?

Other than what is in my whey Protein power I do not use any artificial sugars. I've learn to do without except for the occasional bit of honey(less than 3 x's a month). My body reacts negatively to most fake foods.
  17. I had the legs wraps for my hysterectomy years ago. They did feel nice. It was like having a continuous massage. I was glad to have to spirometer in the hospital. Those first few days I could feel a bit of congestion in my chest and doing deep breathing helped relieve it.

    Protein Help

Since your dairy allergy is mild can you tolerate whey protein? Otherwise you may need to look to food based proteins such as nut butters, soups, beans. All can be thinned with non dairy milk products.

    No energy on soup

From what I gather some doctor's recommend a complete battery of vitamins, similar to what bypass patients take and others just recommend a multi-vitamin. Often the ones I see complaining of low energy are just taking multi-vitamins. It's because the sleeve is still relatively new so there's no definitive answer just yet. I would recommend adding the non flavored protein to the soup to make it more hearty. You can also buy sublingual B12 at the local drug store.

    Egg salad

since hummus is mostly chickpeas my guess would be some protein as well as fiber. I LOVE adding avocado. In fact I love avocados. I add them to pretty much every thing: soup, over scrambled eggs, in mock chicken salad. YUM! so good!

Do You Really Need Vitamin D?

NRD? Where do you see this?

Im so torn on what to do.

I used to work as a Child Life Specialist. It was my job to make the hospital experience easier for children and families. Your little one has overheard some scary adult conversation. This is a teaching moment. Explain to your child that yes you are having surgery because you need help being healthier. The doctor will be doing a small operation on your tummy. You will not feel anything because the doctor will give you special medicine that puts you to sleep while he works. When he is done he will wake you up. You will be sore for a little while, but then you will feel better and be better able to play with them. You may need to repeat this conversation several times. Lastly children pick up cues from their parents. If you are weepy and nervous acting around him, he will pick up on those non verbal cues.

    Artificial Sweeteners?

I'm allergic to stevia and most artificial sweeteners. Splenda aka sucralose doesn't seem to bother me so far, but I am leery of over using it. It is listed as an ingredient in the whey powder I sometimes use and so far I haven't had a reaction to it. I still use natural sweeteners like raw honey, coconut sugar, organic sugar and occasionally maple sugar. I've just learn to use them sparingly. I try to eat as clean as possible so once I stopped using the stevia, I just gave up on fake sugars. I do think over reliance on them could hinder weight loss. Surprisingly once I gave up processed foods, my taste buds stopped craving sweets as much as they used to.

    Egg salad

I eat the whole yolk. A better way to cut down on the fat is to use half greek yogurt (I'm partial to FAGE brand) and half the amount of mayo you normally would use instead. The greek yogurt ups your protein count, cuts down your fat count and doesn't change the taste.
  25. It doesn't or shouldn't prevent your surgery. If anything it will be more of a selling point as to why you need it since SA if fairly common in morbidly obese patients. I had to have a sleep study done as part of my pre-op process. All it means for your surgeon is that if you have it they have to watch your breathing more carefully during surgery and the hospital will likely want to make arrangements to make sure you have a CPAP machine in the hospital post-op.
