    Insurance Question?

You can bill them for everything they cover. In fact I would give the hospital all insurance info. As long as you make clear wish one is primary insurance they will handle it.

    No energy on soup

I don't take iron supplements, but I do take B12 sublingual.

    Can't stomach broth

Nope, not at all. Get your water and protein in. If you don't like the broth, don't drink it.
  4. Same here. I just doing my 3 meals (at least 1 is a protein shake) to get my protein in and sipping on water all day. Not much appetite at all. I feel great otherwise so I'm not worried.

    Post op nutrition

I'm just shy of 3 mths and I really don't have a big appetite. I could honestly take one bite and be cool with it. The sleeve holds so little I can't justify wasting space.

    Post op nutrition

I never thought of or used y food diary to diet because I stopped dieting long ago. Never did fad diets ad the like. I use it to track what I was eating. It helped me become more conscious of what I put in my mouth. Most importantly it helped me track and figure out allergy triggers. I most have used stevia for a year before realizing I was allergic to it. It wasn't something showed up on my allergy testing yet when I talked to my allergist he said because the plant is close to ragweed if you have really bad sinuses it's possible for it to trigger a reaction. I also used it to monitor my macros like sugar and sodium content. Too much sodium and even if I was eating a reasonable amount of calories and getting a good balance between veg & protein and I wouldn't lose weight. I know many people find it a chore, but I've been doing it long enough that it's second nature to me.

Egd, protein shakes, a checklist? ?

It wouldn't hurt. Any weight you lose pre-op only increases the likelihood of you having a successful surgery. There are a lot of Protein shakes out there in different varieties: powders, premade shakes and liquid Protein. Look for something low carb & low sugar. I was told to make sure there is at least 15gms of protein per 8 ounces. This is tricky because many premade shakes are more than 8 ounces. Buy a few samples packs. When I was pre opt, I went to brick and mortar places like GNC and Vitamin Shoppe, drug stores like CVS and Rite Aid, as well as Whole Foods. Hopefully once you have your date they will give you more concrete instructions.

I'm nearly 3mths out and was told I could try whatever I can handle. Basically I try to eat healthier. So far my sleeve hasn't rejected any food. I was told not to eat more than 800 cals. so I aim for getting my 60 or gms of Protein in first. I avoid white, processed carbs. and artificial sugars. I used to love salad before but I haven't tried much more than a few lettuce wraps here and there because I'm aiming for my protein needs first.
  12. Good for you! I doubt I would have apologized but you gotta shut that stuff down. If the only thing you can do is ask them not to talk to you about it, then so be it.
  13. @@amponder - This may be my one soft spot, but I give the old folks a break. I would have just smiled and said, "That's really sweet of you. thanks!" We both know it ain't really gonna happen and some old folks have truly loss their filter.

    Vitamins?

I also tried to go as natural as possible with my Vitamins. My multi is a women's plus 40 by Garden of Life. and my B12 is by Nature's Bounty. My Vitamin D3 and Calicum Citrate are not that great. My mother picked them up for me and she's not as picky as I am. However, I'm hoping next week when I have my bloodwork checked I'll be off the Calcium pills.

    Pain

Both normal. Let those burps out, it's the residual gas getting out of your system. Walk around the house when you are awake and nap as much as your body wants.

    Bowel movements

They started me on daily colace when I was in the hospital. I had surgery on Thursday, came home Saturday and had my first BM Mon. I continued n the colace for the first 30 days post op and have been regular since that first BM.

    I am a new Member.

Hello and welcome. Are you paying for the surgery yourself or by insurance? Each doctor and program is a little different but the typical process is pre-op testing. I had to have a Upper GI (no endoscopy), Pulmonary Function, Chest Xray, sleep Study, a Psychological evaluation and a Vascular Ultrasound due to my high BMI. I also had to attend a nutritionist class and attend at least one support group meeting. I had to attend an informational seminar that reviewed and discussed Bariatric surgery and the various option before I could even get an appointment with the surgeon. I was required to meet with the bariatric team at least 3 times. Each appointment I met with the nurse practitioner, the nutritionist and then the surgeon. My program submitted the request to my insurance company. Some program or insurance companies require a pre-op diet. Mine didn't. I had an IVC filter put in. Some people take blood thinning injections instead. At my first appointment I was given a handbook that detailed everything I needed to do from start to finish. It's literally a loos leaf binder with the entire process outlined step by step. It even had listings of recommended Protein shakes/drinks/powders, sample menus for every post op stage and listings of recommended Vitamins and supplements for post op. Some doctors only recommend a daily multi-Vitamin. Mine recommends vitamins & supplements similar to what bypass patients take. Start to finish I would guess the entire process can be done in 2 or 3 months. I started the end of May and didn't have surgery until September because I took off a few weeks in the summer due to family obligations. If I did have that I likely could have been sleeve late July/ August. However I had a wonderful surgical experience. No pain and no complications.

    Carbonated drinks?

Soda was one of the easier things to give up. I quit well before I ever considered WLS. The point of the surgery is ti change the way we eat and help us adjust to a healthier way of eating. Most foods we eat have some nutritional value. Soda has none. I haven't had a soda in probably 5 years and don't miss it one bit.

    Carbonated drinks?

Nope none. Your belly can't handle the extra gas. If you have a soda addiction start weaning yourself ASAP.
  22. The few FB sleeve groups I saw I didn't like. I prefer googled and that's how I found this site. I prefer it here much better. I learn a lot from older, more experienced sleevers and newbies alike. Can't recall if I shared it, but I'm Milaxx on MFP, feel free to friend me, just let me know you're from here. I'm always looking for new friends there.

    Head hungry????

I was given a 90 day prescription for generic Prilosec (omeprazole) I take it before meals once a day. lunch typically works best for me. Once I also needed to use tums chewables.
  24. Are you on Clear liquids or full liquids? I was just the opposite. I had to work up to getting 60+ of Protein and at least 48 ounces of Water because I always felt full from all the sipping. I started just getting in the Protein shakes in the morning and drinking water rest of the day. Once I could start working out again I did much better. i could go every 3 or 4 hours between meals and get my water in in between.

    Psychiatric Evaluation

Mine was easy. There was a questionnaire included in my handbook that was maybe 6 pages long. Really general stuff. The only family questions asked was the weight of my parents, and siblings and did I have family supports type questions. I met the psychologist on my 3rd & last appointment. We chatted for maybe 30mins. She asked things like what my expectations were but nothing I felt was overly shrink-y like I was on a couch talking to Freud.
