  1. My process was easy as well. First appointment June, surgery in September. I skipped a visit in July due to family vacations & stuff, otherwise I probably would have had surgery in August. I was treated well and everything went really smoothly.I had my approval letter before I finished all my testing & nutrition class. I had my tests done at Chestnut Hill Hospital due to insurance and they sent the results to Penn. Even with that, no issues. Was there something unusual on your upper GI test?

    Sick to stomach (take out?)

Egg Foo Young is not really a soft food. It's was likely too much for your first meal. I'd save that for when you are released to all foods as tolerated. My first soft food was scrambled egg. I ate out about a month post op and ordered a vegetable omelet from iHop. I ate slowly, had 1 or 2 bites of fruit that came with it and stopped. I tolerated everything fine no queasy feeling afterwards.
  3. @@bariatricwife - Tums won't cut it. What dosage of omeprazole are you taking? You may need to adjust it or increase it. Some people take 20 mgs 2x's day. For me it helped to take 40 mgs 2 -3 hours prior to dinner. I only seemed to have issues in the evening. Others take an AM dosage before Breakfast and then an evening/afternoon dosage.

    Poshmark for clothing?

I just made a purchase last week. Waiting for the item to arrive. I'm plan to start posting items soon. My beloved teal blue leather jacket is officially too big and is pretty much in mint condition.

    Still feeling no restriction

@@suemag66 - Talk to your doctor. I would definitely try the prilosec or generic omeprazole. Start with 20 mgs and if there is no relief increase to 40. It may take up to a week before you can notice a difference. Also ask about discontinuing the carafete. It may have just been a precaution due to the hernia repair.

@@suemag66 - What dosage are you on? You may need to increase it. When I took omeprazole I found I needed to increase the initial dosage in order for it to be effective.
  7. I would just add a scoop of the dissolved unsweetened to a cup of soup. That's still my favorite thing to do even now. I just switch up from a ¼ to ½ scoop depending on how flavorful the soup is. It was a welcome break from the super sweet drinks and shakes.
  8. The thing I did notice once I realized I couldn't have stevia was that cutting back and only using the real thing made me crave it less. I bought that monkfruit in the raw 2 weeks ago and only used it last night in a cup of tea. Even then I think I could take it or leave it. Probably won't buy anymore of it. I just crave fewer sweets.

    Sugar free hot chocolate

I use raw cacao powder whisked into a cup unsweetened almond milk at a low simmer. A dash of nutmeg and sweetener of choice. I prefer a tsp of maple syrup, but you can use a packet or 2 of stevia/sweet n low/equal. You can also add a tsp of vanilla protein powder for extra creaminess. If you add the protein powder, reduce the maple syrup by 2/3 unless you like it really sweet.

    Still feeling no restriction

A chicken breast the size of your palm is fine. That's probably 3 ounces. It's the constant hunger that may be the issue. That could be acid which could be manage by a constant dosage of a PPI like omeprazole. How are you doing with your fluids? Are you able to drink 64 ounces each day?

@@suemag66 - Are you actually eating a 3 egg omelet? Are you on a PPI of any kind?

    1 week post op...350 calories?

THIS ^ I forget the exact ratios but I think it's you can go a month without food, but the body can only survive a week without water/fluids.
  13. A variation of pumpkin. sweet potato pies. I make a White bean pie. For the Crust 1 1⁄2 cups almond meal 1/4 cup refined coconut oil (unrefined will still have a slight coconut flavor. If you don't mind that use unrefined.) 1 tsp. Kosher salt Water as needed For the Filling 1 cup evaporated milk or milk substitute like non-dairy culinary cream 1 cup canned navy Beans, rinsed and drained 3/4 cup pure maple syrup 4 tbsp. coconut oil 1 1⁄2 tbsp. flour 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1⁄2 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg 3 eggs 1 tbsp. vanilla extract Make the crust: Pulse flour, oil, and salt in a food processor into pea-size crumbles.I use half the oil initially. Check consistency and then add the rest as needed. If the dough appears dry, add water; pulse until dough forms. I think push the dough into a pie plate like you would if making a graham cracker crust. Make the filling: Heat oven to 350°. Purée cream, beans, syrup, coconut, flour, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and eggs in a blender until smooth. Pour filling over dough; bake until golden brown on top and filling is set, about 1 hour. Let pie cool completely before serving. If you want to be fancy, garnish with dark chocolate shavings.

    1 week post op...350 calories?

Pretty normal. My first 2 weeks I was eating about 400 calories. It's only temporary and besides, we have plenty of body fat to live off. This is also why it's important to stay on top of the Vitamins, supplements and fluids.

    Bored with food choices!

I'm going to tell you something we were taught not to do as kids; play with your food! Start with the protein you like and then spin it. Try a new seasoning, check out recipes on Pinterest or Eggface. Try a new flavor combo. One year I tried a new veg every 3 months. I discovered celery root, namé and fiddle head ferns. Go to an ethnic market and try something new. Especially if it's a lose bin market where you pay by the pound. Buy a small amount and try it out. Try vegetarian food, try Italian, Mediterranean, Indian seasonings, etc....

    Sleeve failure?

Stalls are common, true sleeve failure is rare. Often when people say their sleeved failed, they did not follow the program. These are the ones who ate around their sleeve, ate the wrong thing or gave into head hunger. You often see post from them along the lines of "I don't eat all my Protein.", "I cheated a little here and there.", "I don't get in all my fluids." The sleeve is a tool designed to make losing easier, but you are still responsible for putting in the work.

    Pre-op TMI Question for Ladies

The doctors have seen everything. They will like put you in a maternity pad. It doesn't hurt to call your doctor and ask them what you should do.

    Sleeve failure?

Maybe because I started at such a high BMI but I was never hungry in between meals. In fact at first I was making myself eat or drink. Then I went through a period when I wasn't interested in food at all. I only weight monthly so I've never stepped on the scale and not shown a loss. The only significant change was in the beginning the weight loss went back and forth between big numbers and smaller numbers. 14mths out and I am pleased as punch with my sleeve.

    I want solid food!

If you don't like the Protein shakes, try the clear Protein drinks like Isopure no carb or Syntrax nectar. YOU MUST GET IN YOUR PROTEIN. You need protein to heal and to lose. It may also be the reason why you are feeling fatigued. You can get unflavored protein and mix with mashed potatoes. Greek yogurt is packed with protein. Get creative, but do what you have to do to meet your protein and Fluid goals.
  20. LOL, Taste is subjective. When it comes to Protein drinks and shakes you have to try them for yourself. People RAVE about Premier Protein and I find them disgusting. Conversely, I like Isopure No Carb drinks and many people find them vile. Keep sampling until your find what you like.

    Still Losing

Maybe instead of 3 protein bars go for 2 bars and some veg? Like carrots/celery and hummus for a snack. Or if you are on the go the hummus to go packs. I know Sabra makes some and if you convenience store like Wawa and 7-11 sell their own versions. If you are doing really high level activity your body will burn the carbs.

    Heart Rate Monitors

I've read opposing theories that say the chest straps are the most accurate and others that say that ones placed on the left wrist are good as well. I like the idea of a a wrist device because I would worry about the chest strap ones slipping. I am planning to upgrade to the Polar A360. I currently wear the Polar Loop because I was primarily doing water aerobics for fitness and none of the heart rate monitors I looked at work underwater.
  23. You're a bypass patient. Is it possible you are having some mild dumping? I would suggest any sleeve patients add some natural fiber to their diets. A tsp of flax powder, psyllium powder or even wheat germs can be blended to you Protein shakes and may alleviate the need for laxatives. I was adding spinach to my Protein drinks from the very start. I am regular as clockwork.
  24. I try to eat as cleanly as possible I use raw honey and occasionally real sugar. I recently picked up some monkfruit in the raw, but the ingredients on that are monkfruit and dextrose. I don't eat any diet foods at all. I mostly use the naked whey and add that to regular foods. The lone exception are the Isopure nocarbs drinks.

Week 2 and no weight loss

No, weight loss is never linear or consistent. There will be stop, stalls and at times even small gains. Stick with your program, and make sure you meet your fluid & protein goals. If the scale makes you crazy, put it away for a bit.
