What's the deal with CAFFEINE ?!
BLERDgirl replied to bajagal101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It won't impede your weight loss. The concern is that for some it may cause excess stomach acid. The issue isn't whether you drink coffee or tea, those are just the most common sources of caffeine. The concern is whether you should have caffeine at all. Check with your doctor to see if he will allow the Mio Energy on your program. it may be an acceptable trade off since you are using it in your water. -
What to bring to my first appt with surgeon?
BLERDgirl replied to smile121's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first appt spelled out exactly what was and wasn't covered. The one thing they were unsure if was the post op Vitamins. Then they told me to check with my insurance co. Double check on the testing. I saved by having X-rays, pft & upper GI done at my in plan hospital. They would have covered those test at the hospital I had surgery at but I would have had a higher copay. Still for that first appt. write down your concerns, then go to the appt & take notes. Whatever isn't answered you can ask. -
I think everyone handles nerves differently Some need external anxiety meds, some have the jitters. Me? I'm a list maker. Once I decided to do this it was: research, make a list of what needs to be done. Once I was certain I had chosen the right doctor/program for me & had made sure I did everything I could for a positive outcome, I was fine. Like I said before, I said my prayer and was good. When I woke up feeling much better than I expected and almost no pain, I was happy. I have no had one single moment of regret.

You have to pick and activity and stick with it. After time suddenly it becomes habit. Now if I skip a day I really do miss it. I was like @@AvaFern, despite my weight I was always pretty active. I had been taking Water aerobics regularly before my surgery. I think it may have played a part in helping me recovery quickly. I didn't need any pain meds in the hospital and was walking in recovery. I was using the polar loop because it's one of the few activity montors that records underwater, but I just ordered a vivosmart because the loop bricked on me.

Post op diet... Low carb
BLERDgirl replied to Michelle Anne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor hasn't said anything about crackers or toast, but I woudn't eat them anyway because they carbs and low on the list after Protein then veg. I'm allowed oatmeal, but so far I've only had it twice. I made it using a premixed Protein Drink instead of milk and it was fine. I'm allowed mashed potatoes, but I haven't had them because it just didn't seem helpful to me. I don't worry about the carbs in Beans, fruit or veg. It's just the carbs in crackers, toast, Pasta & potatoes I avoid. The rest of your list sounds fine. -
Good one! I forgot about that. I actually have miso here in the house I made miso soup with small tofu chunks when I could have soft foods.

Too much Protein - Can you believe it.
BLERDgirl replied to bdcsail's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Because most people don't differentiate between simple carbs and complex carbs. Complex carbs are good for you. They often are found in fruit & veg as well as whole grains. They are good because they also contain Fiber and other nutrients. Simple carbs tend to be found in processed foods and things like white rice, breads and Pasta. I don't do low carbs, I just avoid simple carbs. -
The only other broth would be seafood broth. Once you get past chicken, beef veggie & seafood you're moving into soup.

What to bring to my first appt with surgeon?
BLERDgirl replied to smile121's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All you need to bring is yourself and and your insurance info. They will ask about what you typically eat in a day. They should give you and overall review of the surgery and how their program works. Take notes unless they give you hand outs. You don't need bank statements or proof of gym membership. -
Prilosec is kinda pricey. can your doctor call in a script for omeprazole?
-
I wasn't diagnosed with NASH. My doctor just cautioned that it could be a barrier to surgery and to start cutting back pre-op.

Have you made your instead of plans? Start telling yourself now "when I get cravings I will ____________ instead of boredom eating. Without that plan in place you're setting yourself up to fail.

Not losing any weight since day of surgery
BLERDgirl replied to Linda774's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say this enough that it should be my new mantra. Step away from the scale. 7lbs is fine. Some of us are slow but steady losers. Just keep doing what you should. Please don't beat yourself up or compare your weight loss progress to others. -
Post op diet struggles
BLERDgirl replied to lily0327's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You had surgery in December and you went through all your stages? It's only the 15tth so even if you had surgery on the 1rst that's only 2 weeks. Did the doctor explain what stages they wanted you to follow and for how long or did you just start eating what your wanted? If you just ate what you wanted expecting the sleeve to stop you and it didn't then I think you need to come up with a new plan before you stretch your stomach out. Review your plan with your doctor and see where you can make adjustments. -
Packing Bag for Hospital
BLERDgirl replied to ready2livenow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you are going to the hospital in the US I don't think you need to bring wipes, Gas-x or slippers. They will provide those things. I also wore the same thing home I came to the hospital in. I just bought a large pair of panties so nothing chafed my incisions. Colace (stool softener) and omeprazole (prilosec) was started in the hospital and was given to me daily. -
QUESTION- CAN WE EAT PUDDING AT 4 DAYS POST OP?
BLERDgirl replied to Shari71's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stay away from the scale. It will drive you crazy. If you must weigh no more than once a week. Even then make it make it consistent. Same day of the week and same time of day. -
Not losing any weight since day of surgery
BLERDgirl replied to Linda774's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Step away from the scale. It will only make you crazy. I only weigh myself when I go to the doctor's but if you must weigh yourself at home, no more than once a week. TBH - I would drop the carnation drink. It's probably too high in carbs. However, keep in mind the lower your BMI, the harder it will be for the weight to come off. More importantly relax. It will happen. -
3 days post surgery-- I am constantly drinking but only able to get ~26 oz water and 10 grms of protein in so far, is this okay?
BLERDgirl replied to Lizzie125's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. It takes a minute to build up to 60gms of protein daily. -
Don't be these experiences aren't the norm. My program has been nothing but supportive.

Post op diet... Low carb
BLERDgirl replied to Michelle Anne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't do anything fancy. I just stopped eating simple, processed carbs aka "white carbs". So no pasta, no breads, sweet potatoes instead of white. That sort of thing. I don't mind if I get carbs from veggies and fruits although I still make protein my first priority. -
My hospital does patient survey's. I think I get at least one a month. I have one sitting her now I need to complete. The best part is they are anonymous. I fill them out faithfully. Check your hospital's website. Most hospital's have them.

QUESTION- CAN WE EAT PUDDING AT 4 DAYS POST OP?
BLERDgirl replied to Shari71's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Exactly! I drink probably 40/50 ounces straight water, the rest is tea, ice and water mixed in my protein shakes. -
Disappointed insurance denied

If your insurance covers it. I would exhaust all appeals.
