  1. I like them when I doctor them up. CVS whey Protein works for me. I add small doses of fruit, almond butter sometimes even frozen coffee. I may occasionally also add spinach, flax powder, tumeric, almond milk, greek yogurt, juice (typically frozen into ice cubes and Water. I work out in the mornings. I make a double batch and have half as my pre-workout drink and the other after post work out as my Breakfast. When I am working out I burn whatever calories I take in. On my rest days I am a little less generous with add ins. My trick for when a shake is too sweet or too thick is to simply add lots of ice and a bit of water. You're still getting in the protein but also some water.

Good for you! That's how you make the best of any social situation. If you don't make it a big deal, it won't be one.

ITA : My program gave us handbooks at the first meeting with the surgeon that literally guides you through the process from pre to post op. It has been tremendously helpful to be able to look back and double check things. They also gave handout folders at the seminar that reviewed everything they discussed. If your program doesn't provide this, get a trapper keeper or a loose leaf binder from the dollar store and keep everything in it. It will prove to be an invaluable tool.
  4. I had a really great hospital experience. They provided everything I needed in the hospital. I was started on colace and omeprazole in the hospital. I was given slippers and 2 gowns so I didn't need a robe. I packed my iPad, my phone and the charger. I brought a toothbrush, deodorant and big panties to wear home. At home I had a variety of Protein shakes, RTD and liquid Protein, probably about a 2 week supply. I also bought yogurts, vegetable broth, herbal tea, almond milk, hummus and Soup. I use my mortar and pestle to crush my pills. The hospital arranged for a visiting nurse once I returned home. I made sure I had plenty of comfy clothes and fresh linens on my bed.

How long was your liquid stage?

2 weeks full liquids, pureed weeks 3-4, soft foods 4 -6 and whatever I can tolerate 6 weeks on.
  6. Had my follow up today. I love my team so much! The nurse gave me a high five when she saw my weight loss and the nutritionist wants me to come to the support group tomorrow to show people how well I am doing. She said it would be good to have someone speak who had no problems, no gas, no pain, etc...everyone is pleased with my weight loss and how well I appear to be doing. You hear so many horror stories it's nice to know I have a supportive team who encourages me. I'm getting the IVC filter removed on the 12th and then I don't go back until my 6 mnth mark.
  7. I was told to either crush or get chewables for the first 6 weeks because the sleeve might not be able to absorb the nutrients from swallowed pills. Even though I can now swallow pills some of the larger ones make me momentarily nauseous when I swallow them.

It's depends on the program and your insurance. I started the last week of April. I missed one month at the doctor and was sleeved in September, still under 6 mths. However some insurance want people on pre-op supervised diets from anywhere from 3 mths to a year. The questions you have are questions to ask at the seminar.

    Right, Wrong...Good, Bad?

Get your Water in. It's very important that your do so. Water helps with your digestion. You are also at risk of dehydration since you are having diarrhea. You really need to meet your Protein goals. A lean cuisine is too processed not to mention full of sodium to adequately meet your nutrition needs. Another alternative is to buy unflavored Liquid Protein like GENEPRO or prosource and add that to Soup or tea. If you don't like the protein shakes looks for protein alternatives such as greek yogurt, hummus, ricotta cheese and Beans. Even buying a rotisserie chicken and eating that for lunch with some veg is likely better than that lean cuisine. ETA: Not getting enough protein is one of the main causes of hair loss.

I agree with @@Babbs no one really cares what you eat. Think of this as your first test. You have to learn how to eat out in the real world. Read the menu and make a good food choice. Remember it's protein first, then veg. I would either pick the toppings off the pizza or choose something else off the menu.

    I'm hungry... Help!

I was on full liquids for the first 2 weeks post op and occasionally I would feel hungry. It went away as soon as I took as sip of my protein shake, but it didn't get better until I was allowed to eat. Hang in there.
  12. Agreed that sound like too much food.I would do away with the carnation as that's likely to be the highest calorie food you're eating. I'm 3 mths out and my doctor still wants me between 600 - 800 calories. I went through several varieties of protein before I found some I could stand. I use CVS whey powder mostly. I make a shake with that and FAGE plain greek yogurt. I mix it with a ½ a cup of unsweetened almond milk, occasionally juice and water or ice. It come in at roughly 31 -33 gms of protein. I then can eat foo for lunch and dinner if I choose and still get in my protein with time to sip my water.

    So much pain.

I had to use the spirometer several times a day in the hospital. It really did help because it reminded me to take deep breathes when I was in the hospital. I noticed the first few days I was home there was some phlegm and congestion starting to build up and I just reminded myself to sit up as straight as possible and do a few deep breathes. I wouldn't have thought about it unless I had had to use that machine.

    Puréed stage

Hummus, ricotta cheese can be dressed up savory or sweet. liquid Protein can be mixed in with herbal teas. I like cottage cheese with fruit. You can blend them if the curds are too large for you. There are puddings and Gelatin you can buy online from places like Amazon or Bariatric Choice. Can you have eggs? Soft scrambled eggs are good. I mix a tsp of greek yogurt and a bit of shredded cheese and keep stirring until they are done.
  15. Some fatigue for the first month or so is normal. Not much to do but listen to your body and give it the rest it needs to heal. I found for the first few weeks I needed a mid day nap. Surprisingly once I started back at the gym I felt better. Are you on any supplements and Vitamins? As much as I hate taking them, I think they helped.

    Body Shapers ( Spanx)

I have a few pieces. I depends on what I am wearing. For everyday and the gym I have compression pants and top. For dresses I have this long slip. I also have a few pantie like garments. The ones I like the best all have high waist. This way they don't roll down.

    Researching procedures

I choose the sleeve. I was not keen on rewiring my plumbing and I liked the idea of a slower weight loss in the hopes that I may not need skin surgery afterwards. In my area the bariatric program had an informational seminar that you had to attend before you were allowed to even schedule an appointment with the surgeon. Perhaps if you could find one in your area you could attend and ask questions. If you are self pay, Mexico is the way to go.

    Help!

I was started on colace in the hospital. There are a variety of things to try: prune juice, colace, smooth move tea, benefiber, ½ tsp epsom salt ins 4oz organic grapefruit juice. Just make sure you are getting in your water. If the problem persists talk to your doctor.

    Is this weird

I'm still losing. I was down another 15.2 lbs at my doctor's appointment on Tuesday. My f/u is tomorrow and if I've lost another 1½ lbs it will be 50lbs since surgery.

    Kind of a werid question

Was it medical mj? There's no way to detox it out of your system. People have tried but its unpleasant on a normal tummy, I wouldn't recommend it on a sleeve. Has it been 30 days?
  21. For liquid Protein I used Prosource . You can get it online. I liked them because they sell individual pouches of the flavored ones so you can buy small in case you don't like it. The unflavored is only sold on the large bottle. As for bars Zone Bar is okay in some flavors. Another one I really liked was the Six Star Pro bar 20gms of protein, 6gm of sugar. These taste really good. powder I liked CVS whey powder - Comes in vanilla or chocolate, under $20 a container and taste great. RTD - I like Orgain organics. They are sold at Walgreens and Rite Aid 4/$8.99, but the high protein that has 26gms of protein are sold only only.

Deleting or Modifying a Post - How?

Yes it does. I'm not home but I'll get back to you Tom afternoon sometime
  23. Congrats on your surgery just keep in mind, snacking on fruit can be just as harmful. Fruit is sugar and any sugar not burned off turns to fat. If you have not already started exercising, seek out some sort of regular exercise to incorporate in your life.
