Those liquids aren't going to stretch your stomach

I haven't done anything right
BLERDgirl replied to ELI.p.m's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should still be having follow up care for your sleeve. Honestly I question a doctor who would spring such a life altering surgery on a patient without them fully understanding the ramifications of it. I also worry that you so readily agreed to this without completely understanding all that is required. Either way, you've had it done. It doesn't matter that you aren't getting sick from not eating the right things. At this rate your body will get malnourished so you are setting yourself up for trouble down the road. -
I'm just beginning to research WLS - i'm a total skeptic
BLERDgirl replied to AimeeCakes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Their is good and bad with every surgery. There are also more types of WLS than lap band and bypass. Currently the gastric sleeve has become very popular. if you could find a program in your area that offers a WLS seminar that would be your best place to start. A good seminar walks you through each procedure and the pros and cons of them all. I had the sleeve done and so far have had no problems. I didn't even need pain meds in the hospital. I think it's part what state your were in physically, and part mental attitude. I was completely confident that I was doing the right thing, no nerves or tears going into surgery. I exercised regularly and I followed doctor's orders leading up to surgery. So far I've had no problems. -
I think it has to do with the rerouting of things that occurs when one has a bypass. that allows someone to function with a smaller stomach size. That's just my guess. it does sound like it is the only option to stop the vomiting and nausea.

Relax. It's water. It's gonna run through you. It doesn't sit in your stomach because it doesn't need to be broken down and digested.

Why does it feel like you are drinking too much?

Things people don't seem to talk about...
BLERDgirl replied to April4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The way my nutritionist described it stacking is when you eat food too fast or food is too thick/dry and just "stacks" in you esophagus. It's the lump in the chest feeling like food is stuck and won;t go down. It's pretty uncomfortable. -
What causes stalls?
BLERDgirl replied to ShannonbKSU's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The human body just goes in to self preservation mode and as it adjusts to the lower calorie intake it hold on to every calorie. That's why for some increasing how much they eat actually helps break the stall. @@sweetie716 FYI if you want to follow a post at the top of the thread, just click the box that says "following". That way people don't come looking for a new comment and the only thing there is a post saying "following". -
3 days post op and discouraged
BLERDgirl replied to dawnlatonya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will be okay. Get to walking. Sometimes some of the pain is from the gas built up in your system. I didn't have any pain but I felt tired for the first week or so. I needed afternoon naps daily. -
Whole Foods and some drugs stores sell single serving packets.

BLERDgirl replied to skinnybitchgoals's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 mths can eat as tolerated, but I probably won't be doing breads and crackers until I hit maintenance. I don't want the empty carbs. -
First day failure or common?
BLERDgirl replied to aclinton16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me a good week to build up to getting in all my protein and water. -

Perhaps it's time to seek counseling. Consistently making the wrong choices when it comes to eating is a sign of a food addiction. Blaming the poor food choice you make on how the people in your house eat means you aren't even owning your part in what you do or do not eat. It's one thing to come here and rant, we all do from time to time. However if you are serious about changing your life and your health get some counseling so you can learn new eating behavors -
it's also possible because you are still in the liquid phase. Liquids will go through you faster. That feeling should subside once you transition to purees or soft foods.

How often do you weigh or photograph yourself?
BLERDgirl replied to gettinghealthymom1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh monthly but I think I'm going to take pictures every 3 mnths. I looked at the picture I took the day I left the hospital and was surprised at the difference. -
I take 40mgs of omeprazole daily and keep tums chewables on hand. Most days I don't need the tums. I take the omeprazole first thing in the morning and it covers me throughout the day.

Feeling Guilty 4 days out
BLERDgirl replied to SahndraLynne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Laxative may be too harsh on your system and cause cramping. Try a stool softener like colace or benefiber. Even prune juice or teas like smooth move may be a safer alternative. As for everything else, do not worry. Not everyone has a rough time of it. I had no pain, no gas, no constipation. I've not experienced frothing or gurgling. I have tolerated everything I've eaten, and can drink easily. -
We aren't doctors. Your daughter has some serious complications. You need to find a surgeon that you trust and follow his recommendations.

Not everyone loses a taste for sweets. I didn't. I just don't overindulge because I know I have only so much space and that's taken up with getting my Protein and Water in. I can have one bite of a sweet and be satisfied. What I don't have is a craving for them. Yet I've heard of others still having cravings. My advice would be to start doing the work now. Figure out if you're an emotional eater, a mindless eater or whatever your trigger point is. The surgery will help, but there is work you have to put in as well.

Some pain is normal. The nodule you feel is likely scar tissue forming. If it becomes warm to touch, oozes or pan becomes really bad, call your doctor ASAP.

I try to avoid the "white" carbs, things like breads, Pasta, white rice. I do eat the good carbs like Beans, veg. I suppose eventually I will eat whole wheat or brown rice pasta and brown rices. The difference is what your body does with them. Good carbs are called complex carbs. In addition to carbs, they also contain Fiber and other nutrients. White carbs have been stripped of all of that. For example in making white rice the husk, bran & germ are been stripped off. So all that work your body would have done to break it down has already been done. Your body doesn't have to work as hard to break it down. Unfortunately that processing also strips it of nutrients. So your body doesn't burn any fat breaking it down and it has lost most of it's nutrients. This is true of pretty much all processed foods. So if you are trying to lose, simple carbs don't help. Hence why most people avoid them.

Not everything bad for us is going to make us sick. There are going to be some things we have to use our own will power against.

Caffeine allowed during pre-op diet?
BLERDgirl replied to hdd55146's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check with your doctor/nutritionist. If they don't want you on caffeine, pre-op is the best time to ween off of it. Black tea & even green tea both have caffeine in them. -
There's no a lot you can do today, but the usual drink plenty of fluids type of thing. If you ave any peppermint oil a drop of that in some tea will provide some relief. Gargling with salt water may help your through feel better. Vick's vapor rub will help the congestion and help you sleep easier at night. If you can hold off until tomorrow, you should be able to call your doctor and see what otc meds he recommends.
