I was editing as you posted this. My bad.

My doctor follows the ASMBS guidelines and tends to be very cautious.I was already taking Biotin because I am menopausal. I currently take the multi, Calcium citrate+D, D3, B12 sublingual. I didn't have to take the Iron. I just got back my 3 mths blood work and everything was fine except my B12 was a little high. Not everyone takes these because not every doctor follows the ASMBS guidelines. From what I understand it's questionable as to whether sleeve experience the same absorption issues as bypass patients and really need those supplements.

You should still be taking 30 -45 minutes to eat. I have never gotten the slimes. The one and only time I threw up was just after surgery when I was still on ice chips. I swallowed a very large piece by mistake and it came right back up. I think I'm paranoid about throwing up because when I've had allergic reactions before it was always really bad. It would come out my nose and cause petechiae so I've just gotten into the habit of eating slowly.

No idea. Have you talked to your doctor? It may be the food is not soft enough. Are you doing purees or soft foods?

The only advice was to inform her team.

I had cancer. They took everything; ovaries, Fallopian tubes & lymph nodes. Yay! For being cancer free, but early onset menopause is no joke

Non-Unjury Protein Shake Recommendations?
BLERDgirl replied to Proud2BMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cvs is whey protein isolate -
You might benefit with taking a PPI such as omeprazole (generic Prilosec). It may help with the gas & gurgling. I take 40mg daily and I have no gurgling and all other body functions are normal.

Are you on a PPI?

When were you going to drive out? I would start calling them at 8am tomorrow and try every 30 minutes until then. Are you going to a hospital or clinic. They should have a main switchboard. Call the number and tell them you need to contact one of the bariatric surgeons ASAP. I would stop the vicodin now and just use a warm compress or heating pad.You may be able to be cleared to still have surgery on Monday.

Take it one day at a time. Make a promise to yourself that tomorrow you will exercise for at least 30 minutes. If all you do is take a walk, make sure you take that walk. Then plan your food for tomorrow. Every bite. Don't plan past tomorrow. Just get tomorrow in. After than do it again. Protect yourself. Do not bring anything into the house that you cannot eat responsibility. Lastly plan something non-food related to do when you start feeling sad. Sorry for your loss. Just realize that there will be other challenges. You need to start building up your arsenal of new responses now.

How Do You Change Your Exercise Routine in Winter?
BLERDgirl replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I do water aerobics primarily. I also use the machines and the treadmill at my gym. Occasionally I drop in on a pilates or zumba class. everything is indoors so none of that really changes. However. I live on a small street. If there is a bad snow in the winter and the snowplows come through what sometimes happens is the cars get plowed in. Then I go to plan B. I have a few youtube channels book marked that I can work out with, or I will pull up something On Demand. I also have light hand weights. If I get snowed in I just make sure to get at least 30 minutes of activity a day. -

Post-op breakfast ideas
BLERDgirl replied to bajagal101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Around 6 weeks. I stir mine and make them really creamy. If I may also add a bit of either unflavored Protein powder to it or a bit of greek yogurt towards the end of cooking (I don't use the instant kind). It makes them nice an creamy. -
Abuse of wls..when it's not needed
BLERDgirl replied to Momma_D's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been watching The Wire so I'll just leave my favorite quote from the series here: There you go giving an eff when it's not your turn to give an eff." I think having a lap band to get rid of 50lbs is perfectly reasonable. For some that 50 may be as hard as the 100 or so many of us have to deal with. Even if it's another type of WLS, who cares? I only have control over me. I can only worry about me. Why should I judge or care what someone else chooses to do with their body? -
The hormonal changes with a hysterectomy are a be-yotch! I slowly gained 100lbs over the course of 10 years due in part to pre-mature menopause. I agree with @scstxrn you have to do what got you this far. Leave the refined sugars alone, and no more wraps unless they are lettuce wraps.

how to keep costs down and My Haul With Pics!
BLERDgirl replied to Stevehud's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nice post! I am the queen of coupons and freebies so the few companies I find with ingredients I can tolerate, I write to and request samples and/or coupons. I don't trust ebay for food stuffs, but one other thing I have found helpful is to get on the mailing list of these companies and stores like GNC, Vitamin shoppe, etc... not only will you be advised of sales, but some of them also have discount cards like the supermarkets. -
How soon Post-Op can I take Motrin or Excedrin?
BLERDgirl replied to ChronicJam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your doctor. I was told we could never take (NSAIDs) such as asprin, ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleeve, Naprosyn, because these medications increase your risk of developing ulcers. After bariatric surgery, ulcers are more difficult to diagnose and treat. It was recommended that if I had a headache I should take Tylenol instead. If you need to take an NSAID it needs to be under the supervision of your doctor. -
Yes drinking all day, especially this early on is fine. It's when you start moving towards regular food you want to make sure you keep it to either 3 meals a day or 5 smaller meals a day. What you don't want to do is mindlessly nibble here and there all day. Initially I had to do the 5 small meals because I got full really quickly, but then was hungry 3 hours later. I find I am now doing well with 3 meals a day. I use the rest of the time to drink water.

Post-op breakfast ideas
BLERDgirl replied to bajagal101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work out in the am so I tend to do a Protein shake. I make a really large 20 ounce drink. I have half pre work out and half post work out. I find the extra protein fuels my work outs better and I lose more as a result. I was doing Protein shakes before I did WLS surgery. They almost all have Fage 0% greek yogurt and unsweetened almond milk as a base. I think add any combo of a variety of things: avocado, apples, pears, pineapple, spinach, flax powder, tumeric, nutmeg, berries, peaches, cherries, oranges, cocao powder, almond butter, cashew butter, baked sweet potato. I just play around and make up my own combinations. This gives me on avg. between 30 and 40gms of protein a day. On non gym days: I like grits with a bit of sauteed onions/peppers/mushrooms, oatmeal with dried cranberries or white raisins (I buy plain rolled oats and cook my own from scratch), soft scrambled eggs that I mix in a tsp of greek yogurt and top with a bit of shredded cheese, lettuce wrap with smoked tempeh, tomato and a avocado, I do an overnight parfait that I layer yogurt, oatmeal and fruit cooked with a little brown sugar. The oats absorb the liquids over night. It's a great on the go breakfast. As a rare treat I may go to my favorite diner and get a vegetable omelet with cheese and home fries with peppers and onions. This use to be my post gym meal pre surgery. I've done it once since surgery . It took me 3 days to eat the omelet and I picked off the homefries for 5 days and eventually threw out the rest. -

Mine was laparoscopic. I stayed 2 days but was ready to leave after one. -
Depends on your doctor's protocol. At 6 weeks I was told to begin adding in food as tolerated.

I've been adding a bit of raw spinach to my smoothies & Soups on since about 6 week out. I pureed it so I had no problems with that. I've also been able to do strawberries, oranges, pineapple and cherries. I've also been able to eat romaine and mixed salad greens. I was missing veg and my nutritionist said give it a try. I want to make some garlic green Beans next. I make my own and while they are not raw, I just lightly steam them so they are still crunchy.

Protein Intake?! Help
BLERDgirl replied to PerfectlyImperfect88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to get the best bang for the buck. get some type of smoothie maker or blender. Shaker bottle are great. Nutra bullet type products are helpful as well. Oster makes one for about $25. Look for a Protein powder or Liquid Protein with a good amount of protein. I use a whey powder from CVS that is 26 gm per scoop. I work out in the mornings. My Breakfast is a Protein shake. I mix 1 scoop of Protein Powder with anywhere from ¼ - ½ cup of plain, greek yogurt. (I prefer FAGE0%) for an additional 6 -12 gm of protein with a bit of almond milk. I've now gotten in nearly half my protein with my first meal of the day. If I only eat lunch and dinner with no Snacks I can easily get in the rest of protein by making sure each meal has at least 15gms of protein. When I was newly sleeved I also added lots of ice and at least a ¼cup of Water to my shakes to make sure I was getting in my water and to keep my shakes from being too thick on my healing tummy. -

I had the sleeve but I have had the easiest time of it. I haven't had any pain. It felt like I'd done a vigorous workout at the gym. I was up and walking in recovery, mainly because I had to pee from all the IV fluids. I also had no gas pains, or constipation. I've tolerated all fluids and gotten creative with Greek yogurt & kefir to break up the monotony. I'm feeling more energized than I have in a long time. For some reason this surgery has help calm down my chronic hives. I have zero regrets.
