Shredded wheat cereal
BLERDgirl replied to skinnybitchgoals's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So one biscuit is 5 gms of protein, plus say ½ cup of 2% milk is another 8gms. I guess my concern would be even if you let it get mushy in milk will your new tummy be able to digest it. We're told to avoid fibrous veggies for the same reason. I guess you could give it a shot. I haven't tried it because I'm not a big cereal eater other than grits or oatmeal. I'm also avoiding simple carbs as much as possible. -
Things a Vegetarian should know before getting the sleeve?
BLERDgirl replied to nolongerhere's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
My program hasn't given me any grief with being a vegetarian. They have also worked with me around my other food allergies. I am ana to ALL seafood, get hives & swelling from stevia, food dyes, and most artificial sugars.) I am ovo-lacto that that makes things easier. Things I eat: greek yogurt eggs Beans hummus ricotta cheese kefir TVP tempeh vegetable both raw & cooked fresh fruit almond milk vegetable broth Beyond meat notchicken Beyond meat beefy crumbles tofu In the all liquid phase I pureed beans and mixed it with veg broth and a bit of Protein powder. I use CVS whey, and Orgain organics vanilla powders. I also mixed ricotta, tofu, spinach in the food processor added a bit of tomato sauce, topped with cheddar or daiya and baked in the oven. I cooked fruit with ½tsp of brown sugar then had that with either cottage cheese or greek yogurt If I don't feel like cooking Progresso minestrone is hearty and filling. I may add a bit of tvp for more protein. I work out in the mornings and was used to making a Breakfast smoothie each day so I still do that. Greek yogurt+Protein Powder will give you anywhere from 30 - 38 gms of protein. I also add in various mixins like a peeled orange, cacao powder, a splash of vanilla extract, a tbsp of almond butter or whatever else I have on hand. -

Shredded wheat cereal
BLERDgirl replied to skinnybitchgoals's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Were you given any guidelines to follow? You'd get a little Protein depending on the milk you use, but I don't know if I would eat it. It sounds like more carbs than protein. -
what to order in a restaurant.. Should I even go?
BLERDgirl replied to maria88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Of course you should go. It's good to figuring out how to eat in practical situations. This is in Tennessee?I googled the restaurant. eggs would be a safe choice. Remember it Protein first. I'd go for an omelette, egg what I could and then get the rest to go. I went to iHop when I was 3 weeks out and did just that. I think I ate a quarter of it. I got a to go box and the nibbled on it the next day. It was enough for 3 meals. -
Worst "compliment" you have gotten since surgery
BLERDgirl replied to Lacowgirl72's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@@Stevehud - Again missing the point. Context is every thing. This was NOT a friend. She hadn't seen this person in over a year She was at best an acquaintance. The difference in relationship makes that remark out of line. I might tell my sister it's about time she got her hair done because it looked awful the day before. She'll laugh it off, no harm no foul. I say that to a coworker and I'm being rude. I don't have the same relationship with my coworker. It was a backhanded compliment. -
That's why I like the liquid proteins. I'll use the prosource no carb an example since that's the one I used. 15 gms of protein per serving. It mixes well with tea. The packet is small, it fills a medicine cup like you get with a bottle of nyquil. So add that to say 8 ounces of herbal tea. Do that 4 times a day. So that's 8am, 12pm,4 pm, 8pm - That's 60 grams of protein and 32 ounce of fluids. That's a great start and will keep you from being dehydrated. If you feel up to it, you can even sip on more water or diluted fluids from 8pm on since you have hit your protein requirements.

Once you get above a size 18/20 pickings get slim. I prefer a little support in my pants and tops. I don't want to jiggle when I am working out. I shop several places; Lane Bryant, Junonia, Old Navy (online only), Just My Size & Hanes com are good for pants & tops. Lane Bryant's sports bras are really nice. Sometimes you can catch deals on 6pm Target's plus sizes suck. They used to be pretty decent but for about 2 years now they have been truly ugly. Plus size workout gear about a 16/18 or XXL is non existent.

stall at 2 weeks out?! help!
BLERDgirl replied to DgotSleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try adding plain yogurt to your Protein shake. I usually make my shake the first meal of the day. It can almost double your protein intake. If you find plain Water difficult to drink, serve your shake over ice. I see you are recently done. Double check with your doc on what you should be eat. Don't try to get it all down in a rush, just sip all day. Lastly step away from the scale. Your body still needs time to adjust. I didn't return to the gym until 3 weeks after surgery. Those first few weeks I just walked. -

stall at 2 weeks out?! help!
BLERDgirl replied to DgotSleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Justoperated - you need to eat more. If your body doesn't get enough calories it will go into starvation mode. In addition to your Protein and fluids, look at your macros: keep sodium low, fat reasonable and make sure your sugars and carbs don't come from overly processed refined foods. -

Help! How to get started!?
BLERDgirl replied to Debbie_downsizing's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Look into programs in the area. See if there are any informational seminars being offered. It should give you an overview of the various types of WLS they do. This will be helpful when you meet with the surgeon. -
Help! How to get started!?
BLERDgirl replied to Debbie_downsizing's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Do you know of any bariatric programs in your area? You could research those. Find out if they have any informational seminars and go attend one. My surgeon won't even schedule an appointment with you until you attend a seminar. The seminar is very helpful since it reviews the various types of WLS so you have a better idea of what your options are. -
Hair falling out again 13 months post op?
BLERDgirl replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Rubbing Jamaican Black Caster oil on my temples helped that. However I'm not sure it works on Caucasian hair. It's very thick though so I would only recommend using it at night. The problem is wearing wigs may actually be working against you since they can be hard on you temples. I would recommend finding a really good hair stylist who can work with your hair. -
Why can't I just stop? (Eating until it hurts)
BLERDgirl replied to Desi1977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What can you do instead? Don't eat is not a solution. You've identified feeling deprved at night as a trigger for you. What can you do when they feeling hit? Play cards? Do a really difficult puzzle? Jog in place? Drink 16 ounces of Water? When you know your vulnerable moments you have to make a contingency plan. It's the only way to change the behavior. -
Why can't I just stop? (Eating until it hurts)
BLERDgirl replied to Desi1977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Therapy may be the best solution at this point. You need to figure out a way to connect what you know in your head with your actions and right now you aren't doing that. One short term suggestion might be to make your meals smaller. Reduce the portion size you make by 25 or 30%. Then once the bowl/plate is empty, you're done. Immediately do something else. I would recommend walking in place. Do that for at least 15 mins. If you can do it for a half an hour. By that time you need to start drinking water. Sit down and drink your water. -
Protein Additive?
BLERDgirl replied to MS_Science_Sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Other foods are ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, kefir and spinach. You can make a ricotta bake by mixing chopped spinach with the riccotta, salt & pepper to taste. Top with a layer of spaghetti sauce and shredded cheese. Isopure unflavored can be added to soup. I emailed them because I prefer buying singlle serving packets before commiting to an entire container. They said: -
stall at 2 weeks out?! help!
BLERDgirl replied to DgotSleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
And this is why I don't weight so often. Every time I have gone to the doctor I have shown a loss. At 2 weeks it was 26lbs, at 6 weeks another 6 and at 3 months another 15. Is it possible there were stalls in there somewhere? Probably but since I wasn't hopping on the scale I wasn't upset. I just kept doing what I needed to do and paid attention to how my body felt. As my energy level increased, I was certain there was a loss in there but I didn't worry about the actual number. -
Surgery date....and SCARED!
BLERDgirl replied to Jlkhollins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Relax. Positive thinking is your best friend. I have had zero problems and I was over 400 lbs and when sleeved. -
My entire experience has been insanely easy. I kid you not. I did my homework, followed the doctors orders and felt secure in my decision. Going into surgery I said a little prayer in the waiting room and was completely calm. No nerves at all. Surgery went well. The one draw back was they couldn't get a vein for an IV so I ended up with a PICC-line instead. Having that in my neck was awkward, but not painful. I woke up having to go to the bathroom from the IV fluids. My stomach/abs felt like I had done a vigorous workout the day before. I never needed to use the morphine pump or any pain meds so I was able to get up and walking in recovery. Hospital stay was fine I was started on liquid Protein and veg breath. I was also given ice ships to suck on. I tolerated everything with no problem. Since I've had no issues with pain, gas, constipation or nausea. I got bored with the Protein shakes after the first week, but I have been able to eat everything so far. I was cleared to drive after 2 weeks, cleared to resume Water aerobics after 3. Best decision I ever made.

African American vsgers!
BLERDgirl replied to theshrinkingdutchess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your body weighs different at various time throughout the day depending on activity, food eaten, whether or not you have a bowel movement. That's perfectly natural. Even weighing yourself from one day to the next will show weight fluctuations. Unless under doctor's order's you really don't need to weigh yourself more than once a week. I only weigh myself at doctor's appointments. Instead I focus on eating right, getting my fluids in and exercising. I've shown a loss at every doctor's appointment and never have the stress that comes with looking at a variation of a few ounces on a scale. -

You may physically be recoped enough to return to work but the drinking/eating part takes a while to adjust to. That's why a minimum of 2 weeks is recommended. If your work place is conducive to drinking every 2-3 hours then you may be okay.
