If you are also supposed to take Iron you must separate them by 2 hours or they cancel each other out.

    Post op skills class

Never really thought about a class like this. We have support groups but they invite both pre & post op. I guess the most obvious thing to discuss might be body dysmorphia. Many of us have been overweight for so long it may be hard to see ourselves as thinner. Another topic could be how to handle social situations with food.
  3. I dislike all those shows. I think it's fat people porn less interested in helping these people and more a point and gawk at the fat person. There was one show A & E had a few years that I liked where they had the person come out to a ranch for 3 months then sent them home but connected them up with a trainer and nutritionist. If they gained a certain amount of time they went back to the ranch. They also dealt with psychological and environmental factors that made these people gain in the first place. It felt very human and truly concerned with the people involved. Of course it only lasted one season.
  4. I just sucked it up. That super sweet taste drives you nuts, but hang in there. Sticking to schedule is teaching us the discipline we lacked in the first place.

    How much protein/sugar to eat

I track using myfitness pal. I cannot eat most artificial sugars or processed foods due to allergies. I have found that you get less sugar if you buy plain and add your own fruit. I use a variety of real sweeteners. I use organic sugar, coconut sugar, raw honey or occasionally maple syrup. Looking at my dairy yesterday I had 72gms of Protein and 21gms of sugar.

If you're really unsure call your nutritionist. Here's some suggestions from my handbook. Hope this helps.

    So overwhelmed...

My doctor gave me a handbook with detailed instructions at my first appointment. It has become my bible of sorts, especially those first few weeks. It sounds like you are doing well. Take a deep breath and give yourself a pat on the back. I agree with @Elode. Write down your questions and make sure you get answers. Ask the nutritionist or nurse to review what you are doing to make sure you are on target. As an example this is what my day looks like: Tuesday - Saturday: Protien shake with either CVS whey Protein (26gm protein) or Orgain Organics (22gms protein), ½ cup FAGE 0% greek yogurt (12 gm protein). I mix this with either unsweetened almond milk or occasionally orange juice. My shakes avg between 32 -38gm of protein. I add a bit of Water and lost of ice. I drink half before my water aerobics class and the other half for Breakfast afterwards. Sunday - Monday: have either a soft scrambled egg with cheese or greek yogurt with fruit. I don't go to the gym on those days so I don't do Protein Shakes. I take 1 multi, Biotin and D3 Post work out (around 11ish) I take 1 Calcium Citrate+D lunch is a small high protein meal. I was taking B12 sublingual every 3 days, my levels came back high so now I only take this on Sunday. Around 2 or 3 I take another Calcium Citrate+D and 40gms omeprazole Around 4 if I am hungry I will have a small snack. (String cheese or half a navel orange) If I am no hungry I just sip water around this time. I typically drink about 40 - 48 ounces of plain water. I was always a water drinker and I'm not bothered with plain water. dinner is around 7. Anther high protein meal. Between 9 - 11pm I take a multi, biotin, D3 and ZyrtecD. Some times I treat myself to some tea with raw honey. I have food allergies and do not eat a fake sugars, water enhancers or many processed food. The chemicals tend to trigger my allergies. I am getting between 600 - 800 calories a day, 60 -70 gms of protein and 60 - 68 ounces of fluids.
  10. I would continue the anti-nausea meds until you see the doc on Tues. Perhaps try some of the RTD shakes. I use CVS whey Protein with almond milk and find that blends really well even if I just shake it up in my shaker bottle. Hope you feel better soon!

    Not Getting Enough Calories

Nope, I'm 3½ months and I get about that daily. As long as you are meeting your protein goals you should be okay. Review your concerns with your nutritionist when you see them.
  12. At 6 weeks they told me they wanted me to start getting most of my Protein from real food and not to rely on shakes. Except for portion size this is pretty much how I ate pre-op. I always had a shake in the mornings because I can't eat and work out. It make me vomit. However now I make double the size shake and have half before and half after working out. My nutritionist always reviewed my food dairy to see what I was eating and not just that I was getting in protein so I've been trying to eat as balanced as possible. Besides I'm more satisfied eating real food even if it is in small portions.

    Food Intolerance

Eat sloooooowwww. Use a baby spoon if you have to. take one bite, wait a minute. A full 60 seconds , use a watch if you have to. If that doesn't help, wait 2 minutes. Chew until it dissolves in your mouth. Some people have had success using an app call Eat Slow After eating get up and walk. That new tummy is really sensitive.

    Vitamin Schedule

Depends on what you are taking. I am on everything. I take B12 once a week so I take that on Sunday. Daily I take one Multivitamin, Biotin & a D3 in the morning. I then go workout. Around 10am I take my calacium citrate+D, in the afternoon around 2-3 ish I take another Calcium citrate+D and 40gms of omeprazole, after dinner I take another multi, D3, biotin and Zyrtec-D. I was already taking biotin, multi and Zyrtec-D pre-op. If you are forgeting try setting an alarm on your phone. My biggest fer is developing deficiencies so I'm fairly religious about taking my supplements.

    Cancelled Surgery

I have a pitutitary adenoma so I see an endo as well. Thankfully I've been mostly asymptomatic since surgery. I had bloodwork done the week before my sleeve and it was normal for me. My prolactin level is always high due to the adenoma but it was within limits from what is usually is. I just got my 3 mth bloodwork from the VSG and so far everything is normal. In fact my B12 was high so I only have to take that once a week now. @@Sleeve101 - I hope everything checks out for you.

    Surviving 10 day hotel stay

If I'm buying RTD I like Orgain organics, if I'm buying powder I like CVS whey powder.

    Bandages for how long?

@@hdd55146 _ I just wore a sports bra when I was home. The only time I covered it was when I had to go out or if company came over. It scabbed pretty quickly once it was exposed to the air.

    80 grams of protein?

I think it took me a good week to hit 60 gms of protein and even then I hoovered between 50 - 60 gms. By week 2 I could get in all 60. I've been sleeping like a log since I came home. Even more so now that I'm working out 4 - 5 days a week.
  20. Okay trying this again. Looking at the past 7 days I avg about 716 calories a day and 68 gms Protein with 52 grams of carbs. I'm 3½ months out. I was sleeved on 9/18. My carbs are going to be a bit higher than most because I'm vegetarian and get some of my protein from Beans. I'm doing one shake in the morning and regular meals for lunch and dinner. I only eat an afternoon snack if I'm really hungry. As of 12/19 I've lost 48lbs but I'm due for a weight in. I not feeling deprived or super hungry so I'll wait until I check in with the doctor before raising my calories. I was allowed fruit once I hit soft food stage. So far I've had peaches, pineapple, oranges and avocado. Just bought an apple. Apples are hard for me because of the nerve damage from the trigeminal neuralgia, but I'm going to try diced apple with a little bit of almond butter as a snack.

    3 Month Stall ?

yep. type stall into the search box and you'll get a million post
  22. I get in between 650 - 850 a day, but I think I average about 800. Just ran a report on MFP. If I am doing it correctly it says I has 588 net calories on 01/01 and 742 calories total. Hopefully that gives you an idea.

    Vegetable help

Spinach is good because it's high in iron and a plant based protein. It also can be blended up easily. My handbook says "carrots, cauliflower, green beans, mushrooms, onions, summer squash - avoid fibrous or stringy vegetables"
  24. I'm 3½ months. So far I've had a pretty easy time of it. The biggest issue I had in the hospital was them not being able to get a vein for the IV. I ended up with a PICC- line instead. Otherwise everything has been easy peasy. I woke up feeling pretty good. No pain at all. My middle just felt like I had worked out really hard the day before. I as walking in recovery, didn't need any pain meds while I was in-patient, no gas pains, no nausea, no vomiting. I've tolerated everything I have eaten. Sure I got bored with the Protein shake for the 2 weeks I was all liquids, but I just pushed through. I walked everyday until I was allowed to resume Water aerobics at 3 weeks. I now do water aerobics 5 days a week. I eaten out at restaurants 3 times and be able to manage each time. Of course I brought home a doggy bag each time, but that was fine. I wasn't scared of the surgery at all. I had done all my research, I followed doctor's orders to a T and trusted my surgeon. I went into the OR completely relaxed. You'll be fine and you'll love being able to play with your kids.
  25. @@galadriel535 - I would ask them about that. My handbook mirrored my verbal instructions and the tray they brought me only had what I was allowed to eat. There are many variations of bariatric diets. However I notice most of the differences are about when to re-introduce fruit and veg. The basic rule of thumb is still Protein & Fluid first and 30 mins spacing between eating and drinking..
