  1. I didn't try salad until 6 weeks out. I too was craving one like crazy. It's just that early out it may be challenging for our still healing tummies to digest raw veg. Give it a few weeks.
  2. I think you'll be fine. You have youth on your side. The only recommendation I would give is to wear compression yoga wear when you work out. Follow your doctor's program, drink your water and you should be okay. Congrats on the surgery!

Help! I need to get back on track!

Nutritionist. I agree with @@samuelsmom - See if you can call the nutritionist and speak with them about what you need to do to get back on track. If you aren't already working out take advantage of the new years sales and join a gym. Re-commit to doing what you need to do.

    Old and new memories.

I'm the cat lady. I know how you feel my 20 year old buddy Aloysious passed away a year ago. A month before a tiny white ball of fur appeared in my yard with no mama or litter. I took Stormie in because she was so tiny and look like she only had one eye. I later found out her eye was just crusted shut. She barely weighed a pound. Stormie saved me from dying of a broken heart when Aloysious died. Our furbabies are truly blessings to us. I'm glad you and Isaac found each other.
  5. You'll be fine. You'll go in there, go to sleep and wake up a new person! No need to worry.

    My teenage sons

Have the surgery. Stop talking about it. For some people they need to see you living the talk so to speak. Number one determination comes from within. If you are determined to make this work they will see it in your actions.
  7. Are you on any type of stool softener? If not you may want to try something to help you go. Smooth move tea, milk of magnesia, colace, benefiber, and prune juice are some of the things people have found helpful. Are you walking around? That also helps get things going. If it worsens call your doctor.
  8. I'm not sure, but I know that I don't lose as well unless I am eating right AND exercising. For me it has to be a two prong approach. I recall before my surgery I was eating 1200 cal, 50gm protein and 4-6 glasses water a day plus working out 4 -5 days a week. As long as I maintained that I was good. So when I got sick and couldn't work out I would either stall or gain. That's been the bigger benefit from the surgery for me. For whatever reason my allergies have not been acting up.
  9. @@jnfisher - Sorry to hear that. At least they can get you hydrated. Hope you feel better soon!

    Dinner Frustration

Fortunately the people I call my friends don't do that and anyone else doesn't matter to me. Perhaps I have just reached the age where I don't care what others think. I enjoy being with my friends socializing, occasionally that does include going out to eat. I've been out to restaurants 4 times since being sleeved and never once felt uncomfortable. I still enjoy eating, just in smaller portions.

    Panic! 1/8/15

Oy! I was being factitious. I was hoping you would see that not drinking a margarita was not worth not going through with this. Of course eventually you will be able to eat pizza and drink a magarita, but you want to get healthy now so they need to be shelved for a while. The surgery is not that scary. You will be fine.

    Biotin Bummer

I take two 5,000mg pills a day, My hair seems fine. My nut has no issue with me taking it and it's not a very expensive pill so I think I'll stick with it.

    Too quick?

That's fast but if you're self pay I can see why. I would still be a bit concerned about the pre-op testing. It was my understanding that those test weren't just to satisfy insurance regulations but also to make sure your body could handle the surgery. Although if you are self pay I guess you could get the test done in a week.
  14. I seem to remember reading something about constantly feeding the metabolism so that it's always burning. However that only works if you feed it the right things

    Panic! 1/8/15

You're worried for nothing. And honestly would you rather be a healthy weight or eat pizza & drink margaritas until you die?

    Please help with water intake!

One thing I discovered when I changed my eating habits was that once I face up processed foods my craving for sweet things decreased dramatically and I could actually enjoy the taste of water

    80 grams of protein?

That first big weight loss within the first 2 weeks post op is mostly water weight. It's not uncommon to see big crazy numbers.
  18. Some doctors allow coffee but most US docs do not. I was told no caffeine. I have been having the occasional cup since my 6 week f/u but I'm not a daily coffee drinker

    Please help with water intake!

You have to build up to it. Also my nutritionist says 64 ounces of fluids so my protein shakes count towards the total. I typically do 1 20 ounce shake and 2 meals a day. In between I drink 40 - 48 ounces of water. I've always liked drinking water so it's not hard for me. I don't do artificial sweeteners or food dyes because I am allergic to them. In the summer I sometime use an infuser pitcher for my water.
  20. Like @@jenn1 I quickly realized I had to plan new coping skills. So now if I am upset I go for a walk. Once you realize your triggers you have to give yourself new options or you fall back on old behaviors
  21. I do carbs because I am vegetarian. A lot of my protein comes from complex carbs like beans. However I avoid simple, white carbs. I also do natural sugars such as raw honey, raw organic sugar, coconut sugar and occasionally maple syrup (mostly honey these days). I am allergic to most artificial sugars and good dyes so I avoid any product with that in it.

    Question On Flying

It's been my experience that the airlines are much better at dealing with peopled of size. pay for pre boarding, it's worth it for piece of mind. Also let the stewardess know you will need an extender. They will discreetly get one to you. Definitely check out that facebook group. They had some of the best advice I'eve ever encountered.
  23. First up, Get your protein in. You body feeds off protein and when it doesn't get enough it start siphoning off other areas, namely hair & nails. Don't like the shakes? Try protein waters. Look for higher protein foods like greek yogurt. I too take biotin. I buy 5,000 mgs biotin and take it twice a day. I buy mine from Target. I also use Jamaican Black castor oil and cold pressed virgin coconut oil on my hair, and drink plenty of water. I'm a little under 4 months but so far, so good.

    cookbooks?

My cook books are all vegetarian except for my ancient copy of The Joy of Cooking. I did just find a Vegan blog run by someone who had bypass that made me really excited. I know I need to stay vegetarian at least until I hit maintenance, but I would like to go vegan one day. The cook book I like is called Vegan Soul Kitchen by Bryan Terry

    Gym Routine Exercise

Nothing fancy, I do water aerobics 5 days a week. My gym has classes 6 days/2 evenings a week and 7 different instructors. Each instructor has her own style, so you get a different workout depending on which day you go. On my days off I either go for a walk for at least 30 minutes a day or do a video at home. I've been toying with beginner aerobics or zumba, but I haven't committed to either just yet. I tried pilates and think I need to put that on hold until I lose a few more pounds. I tried it 3 times in a row and each time I needed an entire day to recover from the class.
