  1. Someone explained this earlier I wish I had saved the post. Basically the first 2 weeks your're losing water weight and you're body is in shock from the surgery. By week 3 you're body is settled into your new eating routine. I'll echo what everyone else is saying, stay off the scales. I actually don't weight myself more than once a month. The scale will make you crazy. Look for other NSV(non-scale victories). For example now would be a good time take your measurements. I just did mine today and I'm down 3 - 4 inches all over.If you must weight yourself only weigh once a week at the same time of day and in the same location.

Post op help needed - hunger

I would continue to do the tea at 7:30 and just add a snack at 10:30. Something simple like Protein bar or few pieces of cheese. You're hungry because you're metabolism is burning higher. That's a good thing as long as you feed it nutritious things. As for the afternoon hunger, I would try a PPI in the afternoon. My heartburn isn't a burning sensation. I just feel very full. I even skipped dinner once or twice until I figured it out. Now I take 40gm omeprazole around 2-3pm and by dinner time I am fine. If the fullness comes back I take 2 tums chewables and I'm fine.

    Panic! 1/8/15

No I wasn't on blood thinners. I had an IVC filter placed the day before surgery. I am scheduled to have it removed on the 12th. The drain is inserted to help pull any fluids and blood out of your system. Mine was removed when I was discharged I was happy to have the drain since I had gotten a really deep abscess from prior laparoscopic surgery. It doesn't hurt. Some patients are sent home with it, but caring for it is relatively easy.

    Panic! 1/8/15

My first two weeks were breeze. I woke up in recovery and had to pee. I was asked if I wanted the bedpan and I asked could I use the bathroom instead. They brought the wheelchair over and rolled me to the bathroom door. I practically sprinted out of that chair because I *really * had to go. I have a weak bladder and was in recovery for some time waiting for my room to be ready. After that I was allowed to walk to the bathroom on my own and I went another 2 times. My stomach was sore but not painfully so. It felt like I had done a really vigorous workout. I was given ice chips to suck on. I walked a few more time once I was settled into my room. The next day they brought a tray with broth , Jello, Prosource no carb liquid Protein and more ice. I was able to sip on the protein no problem. In between I sucked on ice chips and drank a little Water. I was offered the morphine pump an turned it down since I still wasn't having any pain. I asked if I could go home but my doctor's protocol is 2 days. I had one incident where I accidentally sucked down a piece of ice that was too large and promptly threw up. After that I was careful not to put too large a piece in my mouth and was fine. The nurse would come in and do the usual vitals check and to empty my drain. They seemed surprised that I didn't need the morphine pump or any narcotics for pain. I was started on colace (stool softener) and omeprazole (generic prilosec). The next day was more of the same, sipping, walking, vitals check. I went in on Thursday and was discharged on Saturday. The nurse arranged for a visiting nurse to come and check on me at home, I was give prescriptions for the colace & omeprazole. I was also given one for pain meds, but I forget which one. I never filled it. The biggest challenge that first week was getting in enough fluids and protein. I felt like I was sipping all day. I don't think I came anywhere near 60gms of protein and 48 - 64 ounces of water. By week 2 it was easier. I couldn't be happier. I have yet to have any trouble with any new food and my energy level is higher than it's been in a long time.

    Holy love of measurements!

I'll get weighed at the doctor's next week however I did my measurements today's and I am down 3 -4 inches in neck, waist, & hips. I didn't measure my boob last time but I was in a rush this morning and grabbed an old bra by mistake. It's a C cup and fits perfectly. Pre surgery the bras I was buying were DD's.
  7. I watch my sodium, but usually if I am eating properly my sodium is fine. The easiest way to keep your sodium in check is to not eat processed foods and little to no cold cuts. They are almost always full of sodium. If you buy canned soups buy the low sodium variety as that's another source of sodium.

    Help needed please, and prayers

Yes it does. I had to drink out of medicine cups when I first started. Take one teeny sip, wait 2 minutes. If the tummy doesn't rebel, take another. it would take forever to drink 2 ounces, but I kept everything down.
  9. Are you self pay? If you want a faster result why not get the bypass? At 300 - 400 you will lose muscle, your skin will look sallow and saggy and likely your hair will fall out. You will not look healthy at all. As you can see from the many posts above this have shown, at your BMI you can safely eat 800 -1200 calories and lose weight. It's concerning that you want to go to such extremes as to set your body up for mal-absorption. There was a gentleman on here not too long ago who went overboard and ended up having to check into a clinic for an eating disorder. Remember the goal is to get healthy.
  10. As others have mentioned that is not healthy. While it is not uncommon to only eat that much the first month post-op to do so for a full year is not only unhealthy but verges on disordered thinking/eating commonly seen in ED's. Your body needs food to lose weight. I am only 3½ months in and my doctor has me at 800 - 1000. I highly doubt any ethical doctor would supervise a 300 -400 calorie diet for a year.
  11. Good for you checking in! Besides the support groups, what are you doing to keep yourself accountable? Are you tracking your food? Many people use My fitnesspal. Are you exercising any? Even doing something as simple as taking a 30 min walk each day is helpful. It will also make your surgery easier. Let's get back on track, you can do it!
  12. Can't help you with the WIfi question, but every time I have been to Mexico the US dollar was always welcome.

    One week post-op

From what I've seen people use smooth move tea, colace, benefiber, milk of magnesia, miralax & prune juice. I once did a detox and used 1 tsp of epsom slats in 4 ounces or organic grapfruit juice. Worked like a charm.

    Walking after surgery

I walked in recovery. Mostly because I had to pee and didn't want to use the bedpan. Honestly walking ASAP is the best thing for you.

    Eggs are bad

I've never had egg beaters, is there a reason why he doesn't want you to have regular eggs? Also with the sleeve the eggs need to be soft and moist. Add a bit of milk or greek yogurt or even cottage cheese and cook them slow, stirring frequently.

    dessert options?

They don't specifically list their ingredients on the website. I don't trust products that don't provide ingredients list. Usually a product that claims to be all natural uses stevia to sweeten. While stevia is a natural product I am allergic to it. ETA: I emailed the company. They do list the ingredients and best of all they don't use stevia! The ingredients look similar to some of the vegan protein powders I've used in the past. I may give this a try.
  23. Eat super slow. Literally one bite, chew until it dissolves in your mouth. wait 2 minutes then take another. Try that app everyone keeps talking about Eat Slower

    Old and new memories.

As a vegetarian I'm not a fan of PETA, but I support my local SPCA. They do wonders in my community. Stormie was spayed & microchipped for free thanks to them. She gets her yearly vaccinations for just $15 thanks to them.
