Hello and welcome. Where did you have your surgery? Give us a little more info and we may be able to assist you.

Odd food question.
BLERDgirl replied to catlover2565's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No. Sometimes the belly just gets picky. A few weeks further down the road and the tummy may not mind refried beans. -
Yes. Or you can put the whole thing in a nutra bullet and blend it all to a liquid. Then you also get a bit of protein from the egg.

You're still eating and drinking too fast. Those are all symptoms of eating faster than your new tummy is ready to handle. When they tell us to eat slow, they mean sloooooooow. It also sounds like you may have some acid or gas going on. You can ask your doctor for a script for omeprazole or pick up some over the counter. Some posters report liking the gas X strips as well. You can also try downloading that Eat Slower app many have found helpful. My personal rule of thumb was take a bit or take a tiny sip. Wait 2 minutes. Take another. Wait 2 minutes, and so on. Yes it takes forever to eat this way, but you won't get those awful hiccups, or gurgling, or that stuck feeling. You should be coming up on a 2 week f/u. Make sure to mention your concerns to the nutritionist.

No one time won't help but it would be better to plan a nutritious meal you can make that will give you that Mexican flavor without sabotaging yourself. Try layering re-fried Beans with a bit of shredded cheese. To that add a tsp of 0% greek yogurt, it will taste similar to sour cream with less calories/fat and more Protein. Add a ½tbsp of salsa if you are at the soft food stage, leave out if you are not. Add some shredded or even pureed chicken. Top with a bit of diced avocado or smash the avocado into guac if you are still on purees. Viola! Mexican flavors, full of protein. People can and do regain after WLS surgery. The physical work has been done, you now have to do the mental work. It's not about depriving yourself it's about finding healthier alternatives. Do not tell yourself "No", ask yourself "what can I do instead?"

Some people have had long pre-op diets. It's because insurance companies sometimes want anywhere from 3 to 12 months of documents dieting and weight loss. Check with your insurance company to see if this is the case.

Get you some lock and locks and bring your food with you. Between that and the on the go food others have suggested you should be fine. I didn't buy baby food. I know that easier for some, but I'm a grown up. No way was I eating baby food. Buy a lunch pack and a water bottle or 2 and keep it moving.

What type of allergies? Sinusitis? It may be all the dairy from the protein shakes you could try some of the protein waters and drink instead.

I know many doctor's offices have deals with doctor's offices where they have their patent's buy a particular brand of protein shakes. I don't know if ethically they can make buying their shakes part of the surgical requirement. I would definitely ask. Just tell the the optifast makes you sick and you've found a comparable brand of protein shake that you prefer.

Protein Powder at Trader Joes
BLERDgirl replied to blackbean's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
You thumb is in the way. What's the sweetener used? Is it sucrolose or stevia? I was told as long as the protein source is either whey isoloates or soy isolates it would work. BTW - CVS brand has similar ingredients for $20.99 and is 26gms of protein. Either way it's not a bad buy. -
African American vsgers!
BLERDgirl replied to theshrinkingdutchess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That was rude and inconsiderate. Even if they felt that way, why would you say that out loud to someone getting ready to have surgery? Did they think that would help with any pre-surgery jitters? Sheesh! Some people really do not think. I am sorry you experienced that. Please know the mortality rate is relatively low. Try comparing that to the mortality rate from complications due to the various co-morbidities that come with being morbidly obese. You will be fine. It's a quick and easy surgery that will change your life for the better. -
Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!
BLERDgirl replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Chobani is on my do not buy list because they use GMO's. -
And surprisingly enough that's the easiest way to not lose weight. Too few calories and your body will panic and hold onto every calorie.

Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!
BLERDgirl replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I have a ton of allergies and sensitivities. I eat plain greek yogurt because I don't like the fake sugar and artificial dyes in the fruit kind, and I am picky about the type of greek yogurt I buy. I only buy FAGE 0%. I have mixed Protein powder, my own fresh fruit, nuts, oatmeal and even nut butter with the yogurt. It's a great source of protein. However, if you do not like yogurt, don't eat it. I happen to like greek yogurt. I ate it before WLS and continue to do so post-op. Just find other ways to meet your protein requirements. This is a big enough adjustment without punishing ourselves by eating foods we don't like. In fact here's a handy chart full of alternative protein sources. -
Why is this awful stall bothering me so much?
BLERDgirl replied to gabrielle2014's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Stay away from the scale. It will make you crazy! Focus on meeting your Protein and Fluid requirements. Take your measurements. If you must weigh, no more than once a week and do it in the same location and at the same time of day. -
In addition to the dreaded 3 week stall you may have pin pointed why the scale is showing a weight gain; you're bloated and constipated. There are many solutions to that; colace stool softener, milk of magnesia, miralax, benefiber, prune juice, a tsp of epsom salt in organic grapefruit juice to name just a few. Since you can't exercise, walk. Walk at least 30 minutes every day and drink you water/fluids. It will all get the plumbing moving. Most importantly stay off the scale. It will make you insane. Take your measurements instead. and every month take them again. Even when you are stalling if you are on program, the measurements will change when the scale doesn't.
-
You need to talk to you nutritionist and possibly the support group at your program. The reason they move us back to eating regular food along with the supplements & Vitamins is to prevent malnutrition. Food is not the enemy. The misuse and abuse of it is. Part of the process for us is learning how to handle food in a healthy way, not just get skinnier.

Who is scared to give up food?
BLERDgirl replied to smile121's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I LOVE to travel. It's one of the reasons why I wanted this surgery. I was tired of having so many challenges with planes and buses. I am at the point now where just a taste of something is enough to satisfy. Even better you truly savoir that taste and in my opinion appreciate it even more. -

BLERDgirl replied to smile121's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eff em'. Seriously the best thing I ever learned was not to care about what other people think. I don't mean be rude, just stop allowing it to hurt your feeling or belittle you. You can't control what others say about you, you can only control how you respond. Once you stop caring it often deflates any petty thing someone says. -
Buy what you eat. I always buy eggs, greek yogurt, quinoa, rolled or steel cut oat, raw honey and almond milk. What not to buy is more important. Avoid processed food, and pretty much anything that come in a box. They are often full of sodium.
-
What the heck? Gaining?
BLERDgirl replied to LeoButterfly25's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You making that soup from scratch or store bought? What's the sodium count? It's probably fluid retention, but again the best course of action is to stay off the scale. -
You don't have to cook a single portion. Make a regular quiche recipe instead of putting it in a pie plate, use cupcake molds. Freeze half, leave half in the fridge. Get up, microwave cupcake and go.
-
I was taking water aerobics before WLS. I resumed 3 weeks post-op. I just had to wait until the incisions scabbed.

Goodness you spent one day a little under the weather and things get interesting! @@Babbs hit it spot on. We don't have to all agree. Just realize that the other person has the right to say it and move on.
