  1. I bought a large pair of panties, a toothbrush, my iPad, iPhone & charger. They gave me antibactierial soap at pre-admission and told me to wash with it. I didn't have a hernia repair. I woke up feeling fine. I never need any pain meds once I woke up, walked in recovery. I had no real pain, just some soreness. No nausea either. They gave me ice chips to suck on and the next day they brought me Prosource no carb liquid Protein, vegetable broth, Jello (I didn't eat that) and decaf tea. I was also given a pitcher of Water and a small bucket of ice.
  2. My questions were different. I wanted to know if they had issues with vegetarian diets? Could they work around my many food and medicine allergies? Could they operate without blood? Everything else I had checked into before deciding on this doc and/or were answered during the seminar.

    scars

I have't used it specifically for my scars but I use it for my hair and body and I cook with it s well. Get the cold press virgin. It's good for all sorts of things. I even briefly used it for oil pulling until I realized I preferred old school Listerine.

  5. I used to use Biochem vegan Protein powder and liked it a lot. I think they changed the formula because the last container I had before surgery the powder tasted a little gritty. This may not be the case with the whey protein. Grit is something I find more common in plant based protein powders.

    Local support group

Yup UPenn meets the 3rd Saturday of every month at Presby at 10am. Parking in the lot is free on Saturday. The also have meetings at UPenn the 2nd Saturday in the Lobby of Penn Tower also at 10am nd at Pennsylvania in the Zubrow auditorium on the 1rst floor the last Tuesday of every month from 7-9pm. Ironically Temple was the other bariatric program I looked at before deciding to go with UPenn.

    One Chicken Taco

That's like the day after new year's. I Water aerobics class was canceled so I decided I wasn't going to the gym but would take a 30 min walk instead. To talk myself into walking I promised I would treat myself. I walked to the nearby bodega, bought 1 mini resse's cup. The guy looked at my like I was crazy just buying 1. LOL I ate that the walked back home.
  8. 1. Yes it is likely that you will be on Vitamins and supplements for life. The exact amount can vary but needs to be monitored with blood test. Initially every three months, eventually it may be yearly. No eventually your body adjust. That varies from program to program.I had no pre-op diet and was only on full liquids for 2 weeks post op. Nope, the goal is to get all of your Protein through food. Many of us choose to use the occasional Protein shake to supplement. Yup, I add tons of ice. It's best to avoid them early out, but the goal is to be able to eat sensible amounts of everything. The best thing to do is locate an informational seminar in your area. They will review the various types of WLS and the pros & cons of each. They can also answer any questions you have as to the specific requirements for their program.

    NSADS and gout

Because of the irritation they can cause to the GI tract there is a concern that they can cause ulcers. However considering you have both gout and kidney stones you should consult with your doctor. He may approve you taking them under supervision.

    Not Losing much weight.

It's not that you should have no sugar, but it's best if your sugar comes from real food like fruit & veg. Even then you want to keep it low.
  11. @@JerseyJules - See!? I've been telling you not every one has horrible experiences. There are plenty of us pain free folks around. You're gonna rock this!!

    Surgery date without approval

I had my approval about 3 quarters of the way through all the pre-op testing so I got my surgery date about a month before. I was given a date in August and didn't have surgery until September. I still had to complete the sleep study, Ultrasound for my legs/IVCF filter and nutrition class.

    Out of pocket expense?

That's about right. Other than my copays everything was covered except for $200 for the nutrition class and $400 copay day of surgery.

    Possible Vitamin Deficiency?

Do you have to take calcium citrate?

    My nutrition seems off-balanced

What stage ae you are? I was on full liquids the first 2 weeks and I had small amounts of non fibrous fruits and veg. I simply liquefied them in my nutra bullet. This is also why those vitamins and supplements ate important. What items are you allowed? Are you meeting all your protein and fluids goals yet? These things may also be playing a part in the light headedness you are feeling. As a vegetarian I understand missing the crunch of fresh fruit and veg however at 3 weeks out your should be able to get the nutrients from these foods in liquid form.

    Premier Protein Shakes

You might do better doing a search for Premiere Protein. There have been several threads and discussions about this. You should also check with your nutritionist.

    Mega cravings

You aren't always going to get sick. Especially if it's just a tiny amount. I have yet to eat a food that made me ill. This is the mental part of the process. You have to develop skills and habits to do instead of eating what your shouldn't. If it's a temptation you can't handle, put it away. Better yet don't bring it in your house. If it's on tv, don't watch it. Then decide on what you can do instead of giving into cravings. Even if it's something as simple as wearing a rubber band and snapping it every time you go to eat something you shouldn't have. As you progress further and move back to regular food, you will be fuller and feel more restriction. Early on in the all or mostly liquid phase, yeah you can get some food in your shouldn't. If it really becomes a problem it may be time for therapy so you can get you head to match what your tummy wants.

    Help please! Hungry!

You're on purees you are not even coming close to over eating. You probably just need to eat 5 or 6 small meals instead of 3 bigger ones. Log your food and I bet you'r under 600 calories. That's fine. EAT! Until I transitioned to regular food I needed to eat 3 meals and 2 snacks. Now that I'm eating more substantial food I can go on 3 meals a day, but occasionally on a really active day I may still need an afternoon snack.

    Protein bars!

There are tons of other sources for Protein. 0% Greek yogurt is my personal fav. If you are not used to it, mixing it with some fruit or a bit of honey might help. Here's a helpful chart of other sources of protein.

    Possible Vitamin Deficiency?

Definitely call you doctor. You may need to have your levels checked a little early. Secondly are you taking your Vitamins with food? My nutritionist does feel that gummies aren't complete but there should be alternative forms you can take whether it be liquid or chewable.

    Hello...

What were the instructions given to you at discharge? Where are you getting your follow up? You need to speak with the nutritionist. You may do better with protein waters or powders that mix with water instead of milk, however given your history the only advice you should take should be from a medical professional.
  23. Juicing is not advised as a primary source of nutrients because the pulp is separated from the juice, hence you miss most of the fiber and nutrients your body needs. A blender along the lines of a nutra bullet or ninja is a lot better. However even vegans or should I say especially vegans need whole foods for safe nutrition. However whole grains like quinoa and farro are also complete proteins.
  24. I think I waited until after my 2 week f/u and then only small doses sporadically. Thankfully it hasn't bothered me.
