    Protein Shakes!

Have you already met with a bariatric doctor? You mention you are taking classes, are those part of your pre-op process? I would ask the bariatric team when to begin using protein shakes. At some point that will be your sole means of nutrition and most of us get a little burnt out on drinking all the time. No need to begin that any earlier than necessary.

    Fitness pal

@@Nicey2u You probably need to up your calories at the stage you are at. If you still have contact with your hospital nutritionist I would speak to them. I would also try cutting back on the Protein bars and increase the amount of real food you eat. Still keep it high protein just aim for the 1000 -1200 calorie range.

Your very welcome! I won't be at a Saturday meeting this month. I'm trying my first ever zumba class.
  5. Completely agree with @@VSGAnn2014 . Heart attack post-op is not a typical WLS course. Are you on any meds as a result of the heart attack? Some medications can also slow down weight loss. Either way be patient. It will happen.

    My nutrition seems off-balanced

That would have been a deal breaker for me. I can't imagine anything more unhealthy than not eating a single vegetable for 6 mths. 6 weeks I might consider, 6 mths no way, no how. I can understand not eating any fiborous veg for 6 months out of concern digestive issues, but that''s as far as I would be willing to limit myself.

    80 grams of protein?

You plan for it. Perhaps eating before you go so you're too full to eat at the party? Or help organize and run the events so you're too busy to eat. Or bring a safe snack like a fruit tray and only nibble on that. However if you're really concerned, it may be time to seek counseling. WLS is only going to help so much. You have to be able to put in the work as well.

    Too quick?

I think a nutritionist is good if it's a good one that is experienced in bariatric care. My nutritionist lead a very helpful class and has been a good sounding board. However prior to having WLS I saw 3 different nutritionist. Two were awful. One kept telling me to eat a little bit chicken. The only asked how long I had been a vegetarian and said she usually tries to talk people of out of it. The 3rd was lovely. She practiced a healthy blend of holistic and Western medicine and had no issues at all with plant based diets. Unfortunately she was also the most expensive and I had to stop seeing her.

    6 days post op

Then step away from the scale. 6 days is pretty early and if you're bloated then you may still be retaining Water for whatever reason. In the meantime, take your measurements. I'm the odd duck who only gets weighed once a month. I'm just under 4 months and I'm already down 3 -4 inches neck, boobs, waist and hips. I know it's hard but focusing on the scale will just drive you nuts. Do not compare yourself to others, especially men who tend to lose easier than women. As long as yu are following the program the weight will come off. Some of use start fast then slow down, others are slow but steady losers.
  10. My doctor just sort of chuckled and said he'd been doing this a very long time and if I need a transfusion after all the precautions he took, then something was very, very wrong. However he agreed to my wishes. He's also the chief of the department.
  11. Just resurrecting this thread. today I won a jawboneup24 at the Lane Bryant Livi Fit active wear launch. It was easy enough to set up once I figured out how to charge it. I'm going to wear it for a while and see how the numbers compare to my vivosmart. The only downside is it's not water proof so I'll have to take it off to shower and when I take water aerobics.
  12. I don't think I had a leak test. If I did I missed it. I was given ice chips in recovery and was drinking that evening.
  13. If there was an emergency I wanted to know he would be okay with not administering a blood transfusion.
  14. I don't get that frothiness with my shakes, but I don't add ice until after I make it. That's just to keep it cold and sneak in a bit more water.

    Pennsylvania sleevers?

    I'm interested.
  16. You don't have to do Premiere Protein. You could do a plant based RTD protein shake like Orgain organics and mix in a scoop of any pnat based protein powder and still get over 30gms of protein for breakfast. Once you get over that hurdle getting the rest of your protein in is easy. I think some of the Isopure drinks are pretty high in protein and can be mixed with water or juice.

    Two week liquid diet?

    I didn't have a pre-op diet. Some docs require it, some don't.

    Cold feet

I had the sleeve but let me tell you it was the best thing in the world. I have chronic uterica. They are painful, itchy hives. I was at the point of having an outbreak at least once a week, sometimes more. The only treatments were benedryl. If I was lucky I could take them at home. However it would take me at least 2 days to sleep off the effects of the benedryl. That meant if it was a mild attack, I'd lose 3 days out of the week. I would be took sleepy and drowsy to function well. If it was a bad attack, I had to go to the ER for IV benedryl. That burns as it course through your veins. They also had to observe me for 6 hours before I was allowed to go home. Once home I still needed 2 days to sleep it off. In addition for whatever reason my throat and tongue would also swell on occasion. That was always an immediate trip to the ER for IV benedryl. Post-op I have had not one single episode. I was told there was a possibility that my uterica would go into remission. The doctor's aren't sure why though. I am extremely thankful that it has. As for the surgery itself? Could not have been easier. No pain, no problems with gas, no nausea. I was started on colace in the hospital and had my first BM 2 days after I came home. I am losing weight and feeling better than I have in a very long time. It's worth it. If you've come this far, please have the surgery.

    Dumping Syndrome

From what I gather the only time someone with a sleeve experiences dumping is when they eat to fast. I am 4 mths out and have never had it. When they say eat slow, they mean slooooow.

My PCP is having cold feet

I think you PCP was unprofessional for saying that, but I do agree with @Jordan861 's recommendation. However, I would likely switch doctor's post-op. I need a doctor who can either fake faith in me or at least show a bit more tact when expressing dissent. If that was the PCP's concern then he should have voiced that. To just be negative was unprofessional.

    Saving protein drinks

I'm gonna try @@Kindle's chai idea. In the winter months I like a cup of tea in the evenings. That's a great way to get in a little extra Protein. I have a rubbermaid shaker bottle. It's very handy for grab and go and really does mix the powders well. I also use a nutra bullet when I add things to my powders like nut butters, spinach or fruit. It's helpful to have more than one Water bottle/shaker bottle. I like keeping RTD Protein drinks in the fridge. Toss one in your bag of you're going to the mall or someplace. It may be a lifesaver if you get somewhere that there is nothing safe to eat. Especially in those early days pre-op. I still take close to an hour to drink my morning Protein shake. Sometime I just top it off when more ice if it gets to room temp.

    Malnutrition?

The only way you'll advance to regular food is by trying them. it's okay to have fears just do not let them rule you. Try one new food as allowed and see how things go. Continue on adding foods. Take your vitamins/supplements and get your fluids. When it's time to move to regular food do so.
