You're still healing so it's not surprising that vomiting caused pain. Take it easy for tonight, it pain persist call your doctor in the AM.
-
Programs vary. Always confirm with your doctor.
-
Just watch it closely to make sure it clears up. By the 30th if it doesn't like it's gone away contact your PCP and make sure your bariatric team is aware. Better a delay then a serious complication during on post-op.

Saving protein drinks
BLERDgirl replied to MamaTo3inNH's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Sounds like you are drinking too fast. Try taking a sip, then wait 2 minutes. Take another sip, then wait again, and so on. -
You could probably do that by replacing 1 meal with a protein shake and eating clean.
-
I've not tried it but maybe you need to make a slurry before mixing it in something hot. Just take a tbsp of water or liquid and whisk the scoop of powder into the liquid adding more liquid until it's all dissolved. Then you can add the rest.

Have you tried this broth?
BLERDgirl replied to laurenella82's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Make your own. It's easy enough. For veg I roast vegetable in evoo for extra flavor then simmer on low until the veg is falling apart. Cool, drain the solids off (I save them a puree into a paste to use as a base for Soups later) For Beef, chicken, seafood. saute onions/garlic is a tiny bit of evoo, add meat/bones or seafood cover with Water and simmer until the meat is falling off the bone. Again drain off solids. You can add any seasons you want. Best yet,you control the amount of sodium. I usually end up with about 3 quarts so I freeze most of it to use as I need. -
I like Kind bars but at 200 calories they are definitely Meal Replacements. I also use them as post workout food. I just heard that the folks who make my favorite vegan cookie ABC Cookies (a cookie so good you won't know its vegan) has just come out with a low carb/high Protein cookie. I'll check them out when I go to Whole Foods next week.

When were you sleeved? I personally don't believe in cleanses. That's what your liver and kidney do. I can understand people wanting to take a break from eating junk after the holiday's but just cut out the junk and eat some fruit and veg, preferably raw. I can't imagine anyone newly sleeved needing a cleanse. You just cut out most of your tummy, again what's left to cleanse?

At 3 days out the focus is on getting in all the Protein and Fluid. Your nutritionist should have given you list of foods you can eat at this stage. I was on full liquids and could add a tsp of nut butter or pureed fruit to my yogurt.

Is the term Morbidly Obese considered offense?
BLERDgirl replied to pinkbunies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, it's the medical definition of having weight above a certain BMI. -
Are you still on the anti-biotic? The cellulitus should be cleared up by February. You've still got time. Closer to the date make sure you make the surgeon aware of any meds you're still on. They should be able to perform the surgery but you want to let them know so there aren't any counter-interactions with the anesthesia and pain meds they give you for surgery.

what type of surgeries are available to get rid of the scars?
BLERDgirl replied to pinkbunies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been using scarfade gel since my incisions scabbed over. I already knew I tend to keloid and I previous used the gel for the pox marks and scarring on my face from a really severe bout of shingles. The gel is pricey, but I already knew it would work well on me. I have also heard about a process called Venus Freeze that a few of my make up friends have recommended. Dermabrasion might also assist with scar removal. If you do any treatments like Venus Freee or Dermabrasion, please do your due diligence and make sure you get a licensed esthetician or dermatologist. -
Not sure who said that but there's not a big difference between white rice and bread. It would be just as much of a slider food. However a brown, red or black rice would be more of a complex carb because you'll get Fiber with it and it's less processed than white rice. I've had brown rice once since surgery, but I kinda have a taste for some black rice. I burp like a longshoreman now. No bubbles or upset stomach, just really loud, rude burps.

I was wondering. I'm nearly 4 mths and I have a glass of eater when I wake up, a Protein shake for Breakfast, a small meal typically 4-6 ounces for lunch. I think spend most of the afternoon drinking Water and then another small meal for dinner and I am stuffed. No way could I eat all of that AND drink at 3 weeks out. Getting your water in will also help with constipation.
-
I walked and also used my light hand weights. The smaller ones are only 2 pounds each. So when I was sitting I would do reps with those. As my strength returned I made my walks longer. At 3 weeks I returned to the gym.

Plain greek yogurt. I'm partial to FAGE 0%. Beans smushed (you can thin them out with a bit of broth), 0% milk powder can also be added to broths. Liquid Protein (I used Prosource no carb which did mix with hot beverages like herbal tea.) I used all of these on my all liquid stage. Some people have reported success with protein waters and the flavored Isopure Protein drinks.

I find no joy in eating
BLERDgirl replied to skinnybitchgoals's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, still love eating only now I like the challenge of packing good nutrition and taste into a smaller portion. I never had the luxury of not thinking about what I was eating. I've had food allergies and been a vegetarian for far too long for that. Not paying attention could be lethal for me. -
I'm mostly satisfied with fruit, but my go to is still chocolate. I go back and forth between basic mini Reese's peanut butter cup or fancy dark chocolate with sea salt. I'm partial to brand like Vosges or Lindtz. The different is now one tiny piece completely satisfied me and they truly are occasional treats and not daily or even weekly treats.

My nutrition seems off-balanced

@@Marielbx Thanks for the compliment. I have multiple food allergies and one of the things that helped me was learning to read food labels and the macro-nutrients in food. Sorry I misread your post. I was thinking this was one big batch of chili. That's a lot of food for week 3. Are you able to get in your Water around all that food? However I still think you should choose only one of those a day. Since you are eating 4 small meals a day perhaps look for them to be a little lighter. You're going to hit your Protein on the shakes alone. I wouldn't have more then 3- 4 oz of whatever soup you choose. Then maybe make that last meal really simple like a soft scrambled egg or yogurt if you like that sort of thing.
-
How far out are you? The chili sounds fine and Beans are a good source of Protein. However the nutritional breakdown of various beans makes a big difference. For example 1 cup of black beans has 116 gms carbs, 4 gms fat and 17 gm sodium & 39gm protein. Whereas 1 cup of chickpeas has 121gms carbs, 12gms fat, 48gm of sodium for that same 39 gms of protein. Neither is a bad thing, especially since it is a complex carb, especially when you are a vegetarian like me and need the protein. However, you also have ground turkey and ham in that chili so I'm pretty sure you aren't a vegetarian. In short, maybe limit your daily serving of that chili to once a day.

African American vsgers!
BLERDgirl replied to theshrinkingdutchess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Martene81 - welcome. Every surgeon has a different protocol and every experience is a little different. Look around and check out others postings on their experiences. Use the search feature to find a wealth of info on any questions you may have. I've had a completely pleasant experience. No pre-op diet and no post-op complications. No gas, no pain, no vomiting or constipation. -
Not all Greek yogurt or "greek style" yogurts are the same. Fage 0% has 100 calories in a 6 ounce container, 7gms carb, 0 fat, whopping 18gms of Protein and only 7gms of sugar. Even better the ingredients are plain and simple: skim milk and active yogurt cultures.

Just getting started...need advice
BLERDgirl replied to GADeltaDawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@GADeltaDawn - I wasn't on any pain meds. My doctor advised 2-4 weeks. Even though I felt completely back to normal after a week, I still tired easily and need a nap mid day. There is also the adjusting to the sip, sipping of protein drinks and fluids. It can easily take an entire hour to drink one protein drink. So you need a bit of time adjust to your new eating habits.
