  1. @@JerseyJules - To be honest. I would suggest you take a break from this board for a while. I think reading these post feeds into all your worse fears toward surgery. Perhaps taking a break at least until after you speak with your doctor regarding whatever you want the next step to be might be a good idea.

    Not Getting Enough Calories

@@Mavic - You won't hit that number your first week post op. You shouldn't even count calories at that point. Those first 2 - 4 weeks just focus on hitting 60 + gms of protein and 64+ ounces of fluids. As you move onto purees and soft foods then you can worry about calories per your nutritionist instructions. Those first weeks it's just protein and fluids.

    Almost 6weeks out rant

@@LaTerica Musa - You haven't failed. If you read the forums you'll see that it's common to only be able to eat small amounts. You probably need to eat 4 or 5 small meals a day instead of 3 bigger ones. Plan for it. 63 lbs is not failing.

    Anxiety Surrounding Eating

Eat slooooooww. one teeny tiny bite. wait 2 minutes. Yes 2 whole minutes. all is well take another tiny bite. Wait 2 minutes. That first meal may take an hour. Also remember to leave a 30 minute window of eating and drinking on both sides of your meal. If you stop drinking at 8 am. You do not eat until 8:30. If you finish eating at 9:30, you do not drink until 10am.

    New Gal here!

Everyone is different. I didn't have a catheter. My surgery was easy. No pain, no gas, no nausea, no vomiting, no dizziness, no constipation no problems at all. I was walking in recovery. Tolerated fluids in the hospital and have not had any problems post-op.

    Hmmmmmm...

I'm buying as little as possible. I had a wadrobe that spanned size 18 - 30 so I'm digging into the stuff I haven't worn in years, but I'm also wearing some things a little baggy. My swimsuits for water aerobics needs to be replaced. I'm going to buy one and just deal with it. I have 3 sports bras on heavy rotation. My winter dress coat drags the floor, but my casual coats still work. I foresee a lot of making do, wearing belts and thrift shop purchases in my future.

    Liquid diet!

Not much to to but grin and bear it. Thankfully I wasn't on a clear liquid diet. I went straight to all liquids, but each doctor has his own protocol. You need to follow orders.
  8. Why are you trying to avoid colace? I was put on it for the forst 30 days post op. Had my first BM 3 days after I was discharged from the hospital and have been regular ever since. How many mgs of omeprazole are you taking? Once I hit 6 weeks and was back on regular food I need to increase mine to 40mg. I also had to change when I took it. I tended to get heartburn in the evenings so taking it around 2-3 ish solved my problems. No more acid pain.

    Food questions

If you had surgery over a year ago and still haven't changed you eating habits, you probably need counseling more than a support group. Check you insurance carrier and find a good addictions counselor who specializes in food addictions or seek out a dietician familiar with bariatrics patients.

    Food questions

She needs to wait and ask at her check up. We're the internet. Not doctors.

    Food questions

Her nutritionist should have given a list of what is acceptable on a full liquid diet. It's pretty much soups and shakes. If she is unsure, she should call her nutritionist. Remember it's protein and fluids first. Food will come later. Her tummy is still healing. rushing things may make her sick.
  12. This is why it's best to check with one's doctor.I was to walk at least 3 minutes a day immediately and was cleared to resume water aerobics at 3 weeks. It would have been 2 but I had to wait for my last incision to scab over before getting in the pool

    Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!

I used kefir during my all liquid stage. It was helpful in breaking up those days when I couldn't stand another sweet protein shake.
  14. You won't know until you try. Go Slow. Perhaps 2 shakes a day and one bit of soft food like a soft scrambled egg or cream of wheat. Here's hoping the best to your wife from an 8 year uterine cancer survivor.

    Tomorrow is the big day!

@@JerseyJules Give yourself credit for realizing your fears and not completely giving up. I would still recommend counseling because I think dealing with the mental issues you have with food would also be helpful for you in maintaining a successful weight loss no matter how you achieve it. Keep the faith!
  16. Start walking. You have to build up your stamina. Check with your doctor but it he doesn't see anything wrong with you you just need to start working out. Unused muscles hurt when we try to use them.

    Shrinking liver

Pre-op I was told just to avoid fatty foods. I'm actually not sure what reduces a fatty liver.
  19. It's the phone app that seems to cause the most trouble. If I look at the timeline on the app it doesn't say men's room. If I'm looking at the site on desktop, I see it's the men's room. I may read but often I refrain from posting.

    I'm kinda disappointed

When is the last time you lost 12 pounds in one month? Are you meeting your Protein and Fluid requirements? Are you exercising? What's your plan to help increase your weight loss? Sitting around the house not doing much will not help you lose. Get up and get moving. WLS is a tool, not a magic wand.

    Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!

Personally I think that's what this new lifestyle is about, finding ways to eat better and still enjoy it. Yogurt plus protein powder is a great, protein rich way to start your day.
  22. 1. If you've had the Gastric Sleeve, would you do it again? Yes absolutely! I only wish I had done this 100lbs ago. It has changed my life. 2. What was/were the thing(s) that surprised you the most after you had the surgery? That is did indeed put my chronic uterica into remission and how little it hurt. My post-op experience has been so insanely easy and relatively pain free. I've tolerated all foods, and other than a few aches and soreness not at all uncomfortable. I am one of those who has experienced no pain, no gas, no dizziness, no depression, no nausea, no vomiting. My medical team is wonderful and supportive.

    Hours between doses

The only concern is the iron and calcium. They need to be taken at least 2 hours apart from each other.
  24. Do a search on 3 week stall. Lots of threads about this.
