    How much Protein?

Our bodies are in a form of ketosis which in the long term can indeed harm your kidney's. However it's my understanding that the amount of protein required to do so which need to be an extremely high range over n extended period of time. It's also why the doctor's monitor our protein levels as part of our periodic bloodwork.

    How much Protein?

No it will not make you gain weight. Weight gain or loss also depends on the other micro-nutrients. How many carbs are you eating. Are they simple or complex carbs? How much sodium are you getting a day? How much sugar? Other factors: Are you drinking 64 ounces of fluids, mostly Water? Are you exercising?

    My journey

Try finding some higher protein foods. liquid Protein might be a good option. They typically have at least 15 gms of protein n 4 ounces. That way even if you can't tolerate food just yet you are still meeting your protein and Fluid requirements. 19gms of protein at the end of the day sounds like you're eating empty calories.

    Protein supplements and calcium citrate

You can try chewable calcium citrate. I have a Protein shake in the morning and add greek yogurt to that. I use CVS whey protein and I add a bit of Water and ice to the drink for a sort of all in one drink. It starts my day off between 30 -40gms of protein. I can then eat a sensible lunch and dinner and have the rest of the day to work on my water. I plan to try the Isopure unflavored next. It's supposed to be okay to mix in warm beverages as well. Water intake is always challenge. Just keep trying to get in as much as you can

    pureed food! baby food?

Baby food isn't higher in sugar. My nutritionist said that whole meat baby foods were allowable because baby food would have the least amount of additive. It may just be your doctor's preference. Some prefer their patients resume a normal diet as soon as possible.

    Question about gas

Most if not all surgeons try to expel most of the gas from your body before closing you up. It just doesn't always work. I had no problems with gas either. I also think OP is confusing the gas from the surgery with the acid out new tummy's produce. The gas is from the surgery That is best treated by being active and walking, The acid is produced by our natural stomach juices. This can intensify as it breaks down food. When our stomachs were the original size it wasn't as much of an issue. Now we have the same amount of acid being produced in a much smaller space. Hence the acid can get uncomfortable. That is what is treated by PPI's like omeprazole and Gas-X strips.

    pureed food! baby food?

I was more grossed out at the thought of buying baby food. I just smushed the food I normally eat. The only time I pureed things was to make them into a soup.

    pre-opper with a question

It is a common problem and as mentioned it is a result of the surgery and anesthesia, not the increased protein. I was started on colace in the hospital, had my first BM my 2nd day home and have not experienced any constipation. My doctor kept me on colace for the first 30 days post-op. I've gone to the bathroom at least once a day since that first BM.

    Struggling w/ post diet

Different doctor's have different protocols. Some doctor's prefer their patients get most of their protein from food and not shakes. There's no right or wrong here.

    Struggling w/ post diet

Hang in there! Those first two weeks are a big adjustment. It takes a minute to get the hang of things. Know that you are doing the right thing in mixing the liquid protein with water. In those early days the key things are protein and fluids. You don't want to get dehydrated. Just keep sipping and trying out new foods. As you tummy heals things will settle down.
  11. That's wonderful news! Hopefully you both can get a reprise for a bit and focus on healing.

    A New Day

Sounds like the anesthesia and pain meds from the hospital have worn off. Some soreness is to be expected. If you feel you need something to take the edge off call your doctor and have them prescribe something. You need to move at least once an hour to keep your muscles strong and help get rid of any residual gas. It's okay to need a little something for pain.

    First time sick post op

Unfortunately I'm not a candidate for tubes because of my BPPV. It could potentially exacerbate my condition. I'm feeling better today though.

    Not much weight loss...

Several things at play. Are your eating? You should be getting at least 800 calories. You need to be getting at least 60gms of Protein. You need to get at least 64 ounces of fluids and regular exercise. You also will find it's harder to lose the less you need to lose. Your body will simply hold onto every calorie. You may need to increase your calories in order to lose. You could simply be in a stall. They happen and all you can do is ride them out. You could weigh yourself 3 times a day and get 3 different weights. This is why the scale is not the final say on your weight loss journey. Whether you weight once a day, once a week or once a month, you need consistency. Weight yourself in the same place, the same time of the day. Stay with your program. Also take your measurements (neck, boobs, waist and hips). Notice these changes even when the scale doesn't move.

    I failed myself yet again...

I guess it's my training as a Child Life Specialist and experience working in hospitals that kept me cool. I had done my research and taken every precaution there was to take. I probably wait 4+ hours for surgery. I got dropped off at the hospital early because my ride had to go to work. I chilled in the hospital lobby for 2 hours before going up to the surgical center. I chilled there for an hour or two before being brought back. Medical settings don't scare me. I used to give pre-surgical tours to children and their families so I know what the equipment does and what the machines are for. They couldn't start my IV. could find a vein. I was not happy but okay. I knew it would mean I'd have to get a PICC line. I did my relaxation breathing to center myself. I walked into the OR I wasn't wheeled in. I climbed up on the tiny operating table and they once again tried to to find a vein. When they had to tilt the bed back for the PICC line one of the nurse's decided to hold my hand for comfort. I had to tel her to let go. I couldn't go inwards and center myself with her external stimuli. I was fine. My surgery was easy and I was up and walking no problem. Think about how to relax yourself instead of freaking out. Once you develop those relaxation skills, it doesn't matter how long you wait.

    Heartburn

My doctor started me on omeprazole (generic prilosec) in the hospital. I was put on it for 90 days Post-op. However as I transitioned to regular food I noticed I need it more. I increased my dosage to 40mg and now I am fine. We'll recheck the need for it at 6 months.
  18. I only weigh myself once a month. Otherwise I drive myself crazy and start living for the scale. This is about health for me. I'd rather focus on eating properly and exercise. Some people weigh daily and don''t get upset. Some people do once a week. For newly sleeved people I would say wait at least 2 weeks or whenever your first post-op appointment is. There are too many factors that may impact that early weight. You could be retaining fluids from the IV, Your belly could be swollen from surgery. You could be constipated. Whatever your routine becomes do not let the scale become the be all, end all. Take your measurements (neck, boob, waist & hips). When you hit that 3 week stall seeing the difference in the measurements may help you better see your progress. When you do weight yourself try to do it at the same time of day and in the same location every time.

    My journey

You will probably need to set up a schedule to eat every 3 - 4 hours. You need to get in 60+ gms of Protein and 64+ounces of fluids. In between that you need to walk or exercise and take your Vitamins & supplements. As for updating your profile: On the webpage scroll to the top and click on the gear symbol next to your user name. Follow the prompts on the pull down menu. You can't get to those settings on the app so if you are on your phone you'll have to use your internet and go to the full version of the site.

    Weightloss, meds and blood pressure

Since most medications are based on body weight it is quite possible that your meds will change frequently. You may need to get your levels check with each f/u just to be cautious.

Im 2 1/2 days post op....

Did you have to use a spirometer in the hospital? It's a sort of tube with a ball that you breathe into and try to keep the ball in the air? There is a tendency to develop a little congestion post op. Try sitting straight up and inhaling and exhaling a few times a day, particularly in the morning. Also make sure you are walking. You have to expand those lungs so that congestion doesn't take hold. If the cough worsens or last longer than a week call your doctor.

    Surgery was a breeze but......

Thanks everyone. I'm pretty sure it's an ear infection since that's the course my colds tend to take. I just can't believe I survived sleeve surgery but it's my stupid ears that have been on the verge of tears!

    Cooking for one

@@swimbikerun - It is $8.9 a lb. As for food prep. It takes finding your rhythm but I actually only spend an hour on Sunday prepping for the entire week. Since I'm on a fixed income it's much more economical for me.

    Artificial Sweeteners?

Studies have found that artificial sweeteners create a false dependency. They stimulate your appetite, Increase carbohydrate cravings and stimulate fat storage and weight gain. In short artificial sugars prepare your body for food that often is not coming and thus confuses your system while also making your body crave more and more sweeter things.
