  1. Today I found what may be a dream come true for me. Isopure has an unflavored powder that is just whey isolate and nothing else. I tried it and so far I really like it. Best yet it can be mixed in hot or cold beverages and gives 26 gms of protein in a scope. Low carbs and NO sugar. Exactly what I need. I would never have found it unless I didn't keep digging and searching. Sure I have reason for doing such a search. I need to eat as clean as possible. My body functions better when I do. It may not be for everyone but it is worth it for me.
  2. @@Stevehud - No one is advocating not listening to your surgical team. If you read my post clearly I stated that I worked with my nutritionist in coming up with a way to eat whole foods. It takes a lot of work. I had to do my part and research alternatives, but it can be done. You also assume that weight gain was because of over eating. I can't speak for others, but I know in my case multiple medical issues played a large part. Pre-mature menopause due to cancer and a tumor on my pituitary are just a few of my issues as well as my severe food allergies. What I am saying is it is entirely possible to eat whole foods on a bariatric diet. If you that is not the path for you, then so be it.

    Whew...the nerves kick in.

@@Jenngf5 - Congrats on making it through day 1! It's hard to know what to warn folks of. Some have pain, some don't. Some had trouble with gas, some don't. The good news is that it will literally pass. Just keep walking. Welcome to the losers bench!
  4. I didn't take anybody. I didn't want them sitting there waiting and worrying. I told them what time I would be in my room and had the hospital call when I was out of surgery. They were able to meet me in recovery when I woke up.
  5. Pulled out my hand book for this. My nutritionist said to make sure that any Protein drink I purchased used isolates not concentrates, contained at least 20gm protein per 8 ounce serving, 15gms or less sugar and 3 gms or less fat. So armed with this info, a magnifying glass and this 2 page list of recommended Proteins I went in search of a drink that met these requirements and didn't trigger my food allergies. I bought single serving packs from drug stores like CVS and Walgreen, markets like Whole Foods and GNC/Vitamin shop. I spent a good week reading labels and testing things out. I ended up with CVS whey protein powder, Orgain Organics RTD and Prosource liquid proteins. I think only purchased a 2 week supply before going in for surgery because I had heard that your tastebuds could change after surgery. So here's my list. I hope this helps.

My Story + No Support From Wife

@@BA-Fan - Try for low impact. If they have a pool water aerobics is wonderful. The elliptical may be good for you as well since you can do that seated. I researched my gym online because I find that they tend to oversell when people walk in. Any good gym will have staff that can assist you with the machines whether you buy a personal trainer package or not.

My Story + No Support From Wife

What a challenging situation. I hope you go through with the surgery. My advise is just don't talk about it with her. Keep it to the basics. let her know when you have medical appointments and let her know your surgery date. Be prepared to do your own shopping and arrange your own ride home. Most of all do not become a healthy living proselyte. Her weight loss journey has to be hers and hers alone. Contact the local support group meeting and see if there re any alternatives. If not perhaps arrange your affairs to make a meeting at least once a month. Come here and visit. Now this: I was your size and my surgical course has been completely pain free and uneventful. There are many other like myself. I hope you go through with it and I wish you well.
  10. Some doctors do not like the gummie vitamins and supplements because they feel they are not complete. Bariatric Advantage chewables are fine, just make sure you take them according to your doctor's recommendations. Centrium chewables are acceptable. The list of supplements recommended varies from program to program.

    ANYONE NERVES ABOUT SLEEVE?

My hospital gave me those little medicine cups to sip from like the kind on the tops of nyquil bottles. When I was discharged I asked for a few to take home. For the first week I sipped from them. It was a good reminder to sip and drink slow. My advice is to relax. Deep breathing, meditations, anything you can think of to relax. If you pray, say a prayer. Then just let go.

Post Op Hunger? Driving Me Insane ...

There's nothing wrong with therapy. If you are angry and crying about not being able to eat, a therapist might be able to help you deal with those emotions. Why be miserable if you don't have to?
  13. Agreed I know n my heart of hearts I will always have to work to keep off any weight I lose.
  14. I see this post a lot with people who are having second thoughts. Be honest with yourself. If you could have done this before why haven't you? As a happily sleeved person I can only say, "yes you should have the surgery." However ultimately the choice is yours. Be honest with yourself and try not to use this pre-op diet as an excuse to back out.
  15. Interesting. So they're basically re-tightening the sleeve? I hope I don't need to do that. My plan is to maintain a healthy routine of healthy eating and exercise.

    Constipation !

Why did you stop drinking almond milk? I also second the need to get that hemorrhoid checked. Trust me doctors have seen EVERYTHING! Go get that checked ASAP.

    Constipation !

That's a lot of carbs and a lot of sodium you're eating every day. Personally I find highly processed food particularly binding. Try adding some green leafy veg alongside your protein and increase your water intake. As for constipation aides any of the following may help; prunes, prune juice, colace, benefiber, milk of magnesia, miralax, psyllium powder, flax powder, and smooth move tea to name just a few.
  20. Did you try any new foods? If this really did just come out of the blue, you probably should call your doctor.

    Drinking & Eating

In addition to what everyone else has said this is why we are encouraged to thoroughly chew our food until it dissolves. We can no longer drink to wash everything down so we need to chew our food really, really well.

So are you actually having problems or just imagining them? Why are you feeling frustrated and discouraged? If you are just having panic attacks you may need to call your doctor and get something for anxiety.

    Long weekend

There isn't any magic trick. You just have to do it. Accept that you made poor food choices and move on. Next time prepare for holiday/birthday/special occasion. Eat a small Protein rich meal beforehand. Carry a bottle of Water with your and drink every time you feel tempted to overindulge. In short, plan for ways to negotiate that special event. Include a small piece of cake or some small indulgence.
  24. Some people have them. It's not very common but also not that unusual. Your doctor can prescribe something for it.

    Hard lump

It's scar tissue. Nothing to worry about unless it becomes hot to the touch and/or extremely painful.
