Proper Meal size at 3 weeks

Your nutritionist should have both told you these things and given you information in writing. Call your program.

    Stick a fork in me

Send a letter to both your surgeon and nephrologist requesting that they coordinate together. State that you want to make sure that all bases are covered for your care both pre and post op. Make them understand that you have concerns about how a post-op high Protein diet will be managed . Also make sure this is the bariatric program for you. If you are having issues with communication pre-op you may want to look at other programs. Your special needs will require close monitoring and good communication. Having trouble with communication pre-op is a bit of a red flag.

    Bad chest cold

It's Monday and I'm just seeing this. In my humble opinion no question is too small to bother the on-call doc with. It will take them 2 seconds to give you an answer. I hope you cold clears up soon. Feel better!

    Night cravings

I agree with @InnerSurfergirl - planning a small, nutritious evening snack may be the safest thing to do. There are plenty of options that can help you stay on track. My current favorites are cucumbers with a splash of hot sauce & lime, a cup of herbal tea, a hardboiled egg or a tbsp of almond butter. You can also try those single serving packs of nuts. The point is to plan for and portion out something safe.

You're not a failure. You just have to approach this a little differently than the typical sleeve patient. Work with your doctor's to come up with a modified diet that won't put your kidney's at risk. Perhaps stay at the minimum of 60 gms and go no higher, increased checks on your kidney's etc.... You've come this far, and you're still here. If your nephrologist is not saying you can't have the surgery, then you are still in the running. Hang in there!

    Too big to fly?

From what I've read SouthWest airlines gas the best COS policy and customer service. They give you a sign to reserve the second seat and don't Najee you buy 2 seats. They will also allow you to pre oars so you can get settled intolerance your seat.

    2 weeks

No pre-op diet. The hardest part for me was deciding to have the surgery. Once I did my homework and choose my surgeon I never looked back. I was calm and sure in my decision. I complied with every request and hard a easy surgical and post-op experience. No pain, gas, nausea, vomiting, etc.... Stay positive. No everyone experiences a painful post op period. By week 3 I was back in the gym.

    Psych eval

Mine was pretty basic. No deep therapy just a bit of info about family history and your views/hopes for this surgery. They are trying to discern if you have realistic expectations and coping skills. Mine was fairly conversational. We just chatted for an hour.
  9. Call the doctor or go to the ER. An enema or suppository may do the trick, but why risk those options not working? You can also discuss getting a prescription for a stool softner. My doctor puts all his pts. on one for the first 30 days post-op.

    Snack after dinner

sliced cucumbers, herbal tea, hardboiled egg, tbsp of almond butter.
  11. @@jess9395 - I get that which is why I also said eat a lot of food. I'm about as far along as OP and I find I have to be more cognizant of portion size. I have to portion out my food or I can easily slip into over eating.
  12. Are you still trying to actively lose? If so why would you attempt to eat an entire banana, or any large amount of food? As WLS pts. portion control will always be a challenge for us. Some foods are and will make us feel fuller. Be careful not to push your tummy to the limits.
  13. I believe the easy work of losing happens in the honeymoon period typically thought of as that first year. However you can still lose. Depending on how you work it, it made be at a slightly slower rate, but you can still lose. It's the same things that helped in the first place: food Log Getting in your Protein Getting in your Water Exercise

Changing the sub-name under my user name

Pretty sure that's just a random designation that changes according to how many post you make on the site. I haven't seen a specific breakdown listed on here but on other forums it goes something like post 0-10 - catchy name 11 -200 - catchy name 2 201 - 2000 - catchy name 3 and so on. ....and just like that you clicked over to "Bariatric Master" BTW - did you have bypass and a sleeve?

    What’s Your Restaurant Secret?

As a vegetarian with severe food allergies I do the same things I did pre-op. Check the menu online before going, order sides and ask them to bring them out with the main dishes for everyone else. Unless it's a steak house or seafood restaurant I can usually manage something. As a single person a doggy bag means I don't have to cook for a few days so I'm happy to take advantage of that.

What to do about extended release capsule medications?

I agree. the surgeon needs to weigh in on this. The issue is 2 fold; can you swallow the pill and will the smaller tummy be able to break down the capsule so that it can be absorbed.

    Fullness

It could be eating too fast. You really have to take teeny bites and eat super slow. It could also be acid. Are you on a PPI like omeprazole/prilosec? Also make sure your animal proteins are really moist.

    Miss my diet pepsi :(

There are varying schools of thought on drinking sodas. I'm not a soda drinker so it doesn't bother me. It's up to the individual, but I think if you can wait until you are cleared for all foods as tolerated then try it. You may discover you no longer crave it, or you may be able to have it without any issues.

    Ice cream?

Well I'm sleeved and I dump like crazy. It isn't true that sleeve patients don't dump. Sadly for me. And ice cream and dairy are the worst. Anyone who has a significant portion of their stomach removed can dump. I didn't mean to be a downer. It's just you read about so many people devastated about not losing enough weight or regaining and they ask why? Why? Well... Ice cream and sweets are not weight loss friendly. Or WLS friendly. Operative word RARELY. You are the exception, not the rule. I've also read that you have other complications as well that may also play a part in your dumping. I have zero issues eating anything sweet. In fact I have no issues eating at all. I don't vomit or dump.

    Any one know

Same thing. Laparoscopic is just the method used to do the VSG. It means instead of cutting someone completely open, they made a few small incisions and performed the surgery through the incisions.

    How much do you eat?

@@scarlep - I am one of those who has not had any issues with any foods that I've tried. Sweet spicy, fried, etc... no problems. While it's not nice to get sick from certain foods, it also means I have to be careful with what I choose to eat.
  22. I use Isopure unflavored Protein powder. You are fine for YOUR body. There is no race or need to compare. It depends on whether you are on Clear liquids or All Liquids. I never had a clear liquid stage. During my All Liquids stage I was allowed to puree beans and then it out with broth. I don't get the chewing and spitting out. I understand the desire to chew, but his is just a temporary phase. Try to hang in there. If you are really desperate communicate with your medical team and see about advancing.

    Still feeling no restriction

    1. don't eat out of a bag/box, etc... 2. Do not buy anything you will binge on. This is where you have to get creative. Change how you approach eating. There are some things I can buy, and portion out into ziplock snack packs. I will then just grab my snack and be fine. There are others things like nuts, that as long as I have them, I will eat them. Because of this no matter how much they are on sale, I never buy anything more than a single serving snack pack of nuts. I simply cannot afford to have large quantities in the house. I have the tummy seemingly made of steel. I get full, but nothing upsets my belly. I have to use other skills and techniques. Food logging is a BIG help for me. I plan as much as possible, even special treats like wine/alcohol, a dessert if it's a special event.
  24. Double check with your nutritionist. We were allowed to choose whatever multi we wanted, but we were given specific amounts that we should take. I don't know them off the top of my head. They are written down in my handbook.
