  1. Ask her to give you a sample diet to follow. I meet my Protein requirements, but I do have at least one Protein shake a day. I eat between 600 - 800 calories a day. My Breakfast is a shake using Isopure unflavored whey Protein powder, ½ cup of Fage 0% greek yogurt and either a bit of fresh fruit or a tablespoon of almond butter. Occasionally I add ½ a tbsp of raw honey. To this I add ½ a cup of Water and mix it in the nutra bullet. I drink half before my morning workout and the other half post workout. This yields 30 - 38 gms of protein. The rest of the day is easy since I've now gotten most of my protein in. I then eat regular lunch. Pretty much whatever strikes my fancy. Sometimes it's just a soft scrambled egg with a tsp of salsa and a bit of avocado, or it could be blackbeans with a sunnyside up egg and a sprinkling of shredded cheese. I spend most of the afternoon sipping water. dinner varies from Soup to a small salad with a hardboiled egg and/or a meat substitute (I am vegetarian) That could be tofu, tempeh, seitan, and occasionally Beyond meat products. I typically dress my salads with a bit of EVOO. My avg protein consumed this week is 67.5 I am not saying it can't be done, but if she wants you to keep your calories that low, meet your protein requirements, AND not use any Protein shakes, she needs to provide you with some specific examples.
  2. I'm a vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian for the past 15 years. I am fortunate enough to have a nutritionist who is willing to work with me to develop an eating plan that works for me. I also have the added challenges of multiple food allergies. I try to eat as unprocessed as possible since I am hypersensitive to overly processed foods. I prefer organic, whole foods. No artificial sugars or dyes since they tend to trigger my allergies. It is challenging. I find it is necessary to constantly read labels. If necessary I will write a company for clarification.

    Sleeved Yesterday

Welcome to the other side! I did not experience them post op, but I notice now that I am eating mostly food that if I am eating too fast I hiccup. It's not painful, but it is a good reminder to eat slower.

    Numbness or tingling sensation

I would contact the doctor ASAP. He might decided to have your labs done earlier. There are foods such as bananas, coconut water and even gatorade that can help if your potassium is too low. However it may be best to err on the side of caution and check in with your doctor.
  6. You don't need to have Protein bars. I only keep a few in my glove box only for emergency on the road situations. You can try making your own. Here's a site that has lots of good suggestions. Other nut free snack ideas: String cheese Fruit & Yogurt popsicles Roasted chick peas Fruit & yogurt

    I failed myself yet again...

@@xmaleengyx - Don't argue. You can agree to disagree. WLS surgery is not about dieting. it's about adopting a healthier lifestyle. The surgery is merely the starting point in changing your relationship with food. Sometime when we have unsupportive people in our lives the best we can do is simply not discuss this with them. I don't mean withhold information, rather limit what you share with him. Keep it to basic facts. Your surgery date, your dietary needs and restrictions and important post op information. You cannot change anyone's mind.

    ANYONE NERVES ABOUT SLEEVE?

@@kelliep - I'm from Philadelphia, PA in the US. I was 50 when I had my surgery. I had zero complications. If an old fart like me can come through unscathed, you can too! Just stay positive!

    I failed myself yet again...

@@xmaleengyx - It makes me sad to see people calling WLS "lazy" it's not. I am literally working my butt off to make this work. As far as considering this to be a "dangerous surgery, it really isn't. Co-morbs are just as if not more dangerous.

    Coconut oil hair treatment

Totally agree. I current have eggplant/dark purple dreds. I do much of what you do and I am also taking biotin. I was taking it presurgery as well. I am menopausal and since I color my locs I wanted the added supplemental support.

  14. I tried it this morning in a cup of coffee. I could not taste the difference. The Isopure blended completely with no chalky or gritty taste/feel. I have a few more things I want to test it in, but overall I am pleasantly surprised with the Isopure unflavored. Perhaps I overlooked it, but in this particular thread I don't believe anyone has suggested they ignore the nutritionist. I've seen suggestions on how to work with the current nutritionist or request another if the OP doesn't feel the one she is working with is meeting her needs. Additionally no one is proclaiming to be a expert in nutrition, particularly on this thread. What I do see happening is a discussion on alternatives diets. Yes it is.
  15. @@jessiquoi - I was allowed fruit even at my all liquid phase. My only concern with bananas are that they are high in sugar. I think a half a banana is probably okay. I personally hate bananas so that wouldn't work for me.
  16. I wanted to share that because at first I was like, "what's a week?" Then I remembered how I felt when I was ready to have this surgery. I hope you get your date soon!

    Protein Shake

@@WL WARRIOR - I just got the Isopure unflavored and love it. I've had it in hot and cold beverages so far. I like that the only ingredient is whey isolates. Oddly enough I like the taste of ACV. I use Braggs organic. I used to put it in my Water bottle everyday. I haven't done so since surgery since I wasn't sure if it would upset my stomach.
  18. @@c-love - here's a blog you may love. BGG2WL She had a post about her own weight loss journey where she described how she actually gained weight when she wanted to improve her strength and endurance. I find her very inspiring.

  20. @@c-love Nope, your body, your life. Don't chase numbers, chase good health. Can you maintain at this weight? Is this a healthy weight for your height? Are you within the normal range for what would be considered a healthy BMI? Talk to your doctor about these things and perhaps come up with a plan for a compromise.

    Just finished

Sounds like he did a variation of the procedure you were expecting. Since he can't guarantee anything until they actually go in and start working there isn't anything illegal with what he did. Of course he has to justify why he did the procedure the way he did, but it's not the same thing as a sort of bait and switch I'll do whatever surgery I want to type situation. Just ask him to explain what necessitated the change.
  22. @@MisforMimi - My doctor hasn't set a goal weight either. He just said that most patient's lose between 50 - 60 %. I'm actually okay with that since it doesn't set me up to chase some number that I may or may not reach.

    Coconut oil hair treatment

I have locs. I use coconut oil on my a hair after every shampoo. I think the theory is that because your hair is no longer dry and brittle it helps with breakage. Not sure if it will help with hair loss due to wls surgery.

Lane Bryant has a good line. I was very happy to see it was both comfortable and supportive. It also wasn't extremely pricey.
