    Pre-Op diet

I didn't have a pre-op diet however my nutritionist said to watch what I eat prior to surgery. I was encouraged to increase my Protein and watch my fats. Other than being NPO after 12 noon the day before I wasn't required to to anything else. However 2 days prior to surgery I but back and did 2 shakes and one high protein meal. My surgeon said it was extremely rare, but he has had cases where the patient is on the table and they were unable to go forward with the surgery. If you were given a specific pre-op diet it is concerning that you choose not to follow it. My suggestion would be to use this week to cut back, or if you were given a specific diet to follow begin it now. The reason for the liver shrink diet is so that your liver is not so large that it impedes with your surgery.

I'm not RIGHT, you're not WRONG, WE ARE DIFFERENT.

AMEN! I know my eating habits may seem off to many. They were before WLS and since I'm still eating most of the things I ate pre-surgery I didn't expect that to change. I honestly do not care if you want to eat meat or use equal. I certainly am not concerned if someone drinks coffee or soda with or without a straw. But if you ask me why I eat the way I do, I'll tell you. If you ask if you can eat clean on a bariatric diet I'll tell you what I'm doing. Last I checked I wasn't the boss of anybody but my cat and she doesn't even listen to me half the time.
  5. Try using the EAT SLOWER app. Once you can eat slower it won't be such a chore.

    African American vsgers!

@@rfriend82 - I'm using Scarfade gel. I used it for my face after my shingles. It smoothed out much of the scarring and pox marks from the scabs. I tend to keloid. I had an extra tube and have been using it on my incisions since they scabbed over. All but the 2 biggest ones are completely flat. If they are like the scars on my face the discoloration will fade over time. It's pricey, but worth it to me.
  7. Sounds like you got a bad one. I use Orgain quite a bit and never had one that was goopy or lumpy.

    Sports Bras? Suggestions..........

@@CheleLynn45 - It may have changed but Lane Bryants & Victoria's Secret used to have the same parent company, LB's bras were essentially the same as VS only in bigger sizes.
  9. Most dark green leafy veg contain iron & calcium. I also agree with the poster above who said it may be and absorption issue.
  10. Spinach and you can mix it into a smoothie if you have a nutra bullet or similar product without tasting the spinach. Your drink will likely turn green though. 1 cup contain approximately 5 gms of Protein.

    Post- Op Diet

I had the same stages but only spent 2 weeks in each stage. The hardest part for me was Full Liquids. By the end of week 1 I wanted something to chew!
  12. I don't really view my way of eating as a diet per se. I've been a vegetarian for 15 years. I've been endeavoring to eat clean for 3. I do make allowances. I try to follow a 85/15 rule. For me that means I am eating clean at least 85% of the time. At this point I consider how I eat a true lifestyle so I don't feel restricted. I may still be in the honeymoon phase because I really haven't had a longing for of the more decadent things I used to eat. I've been able to indulge in chocolate 3 times since I've been sleeved without overdoing it. I've had a cookie once. I am just really happy that I have made it 4 months without and allergic reaction or a trip to the ER for an allergic reaction. This lifestyle works for me.

    Question

It's not too late to change your mind. Many people with diabetes have had the sleeve. Speak with your surgeon and discuss this with him. You should not have any form of elective surgery unless you are sure it is what you want. Try doing a search here regarding diabetes and see if you can find a few post of sleeved posters who had diabetes.

    I'm in Gas Hell!

Ask your doctor to prescribe a PPI for the gas and walk it out.

    Exercise with Vertigo?

I have BPPV - a chronic vertigo condition. I also have severe sinusitis. I take Zyrtec_D year round. It never truly goes away, but a few things make it manageable. I have to stay on top of my sinus condition. When things get really bad I also use flonase nasal spray along with the Zyrtec-D. I take D3. Some studies seem to think that the symptoms of mild cases of vertigo can be alleviated with Vitamin D. I am also very careful on how I move my head. Especially when the vertigo is bad. Of course there are days when I simply have to sit still. On those days the best I can do is use some hand weights and do light reps. I find it best not to fight the vertigo. See an ENT for something to help clear up the sinuses.
  16. I was started on colace in the hospital. I was discharged on Saturday and had my first BM on Monday. Not a great one, but I went. I was kept on colace for the first 30 days post-op and have been regular since (at least once a day). They were just never as how should I say it? Robust as they used to be. I just figured this was the new way things would be. Well I switched to Isopure unflavored Protein powder this week. I eat a mostly "clean" diet. I am 4 mths out and I've noticed this week that things are back to normal. Nice, healthy BMs. Hang in there folks. There's hope that as you return to a regular diet, things will returned to normal.

    Really constipated.. I think...

Ghee is a bit pricey to get here in the US unless you make your own.

    12 days post-op

Perfectly normal. After week 1 of full liquids all I wanted was something, anything to chew! I was so happy to have that first soft scrambled egg on week 3, you would have thought it was manna from the gods!
  19. Why are you eating so fast? It takes approximately 20 mins for your brain and tummy to communicate that your are full. By eating slower you allow your body time to send those signals. Try downloading the Eat Slower app. Try eating just the smaller portion and then wait 20 minutes if you are truly hungry then have some more. These are habits you need to develop going forth. The surgery was step 1. The changes you need to adopt in how you eat as well as how much you eat are entirely on you.
  20. I would also ask about a more relaxed eating plan. There is a big difference between grazing and eating 4 or 5 small meals a day. For my first 6 weeks post op I ate 5 small meals a day. The sleeve doesn't hold much and I was hungry every 2 -3 hours. It wasn't mindless grazing, it was planned meals every 3 hours or so.
  21. @@ButterflyMiss - I think you are too worried about him and not enough about you. You can't control him. You can't change him or his behavior. Get yourself in counseling and figure out why you are in this relationship and if you want to stay. The only person you can truly control is you. Asking untrained stranger to weigh in is not going to help you control, change or understand him.
  22. Have you spoken with your doctor or nutritionist? Please follow up and make sure all is well.

    Does it get better?

Post - op life is a challenge to adjust to. It does get easier. The way your eat and drink will soon become second nature. I have zero regrets about my surgery. Each day it becomes easier and easier.
