@@boosh10 - check wot your NUT. Mine doesn't like gummies since they are often not complete. After 6 weeks I didn't worry about chewable or crushing pills. Since swallowing pills has never been an issue for me I just swallow.

Protein Suggestions
BLERDgirl replied to GingerLeAnna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@JamieLogical - both dark green leafy veg and sweet potatoes contain protein. That's one of the differences between a simple carb and a complex carb. Whole grains such as farro and quinoa are also good sources of protein as well as good sources of fiber. -
I tend to think of grazing as mindless eating. Just a bit here and a bit there. To me that's different than eating say 3 meals and 2 small Snacks or 5 small meals a day.

Protein Suggestions
BLERDgirl replied to GingerLeAnna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@JamieLogical - I am not anti-carb but I am anti simple carbs. I mostly avoid "white carbs" such as white potatoes, refined sugars & processed foods, white bread, Pasta, white rice. I prefer complex carbs such as those found in Beans and veg, even brown rice, whole grains or sweet potatoes. As for Proteins, I don't care for the flavored Protein drinks. Too many artificial sweeteners and dyes that I am allergic to. I use Isopure unflavored and add it to my coffee, tea, yogurt or Soup. I even added some to my oatmeal this morning. -
What did your nutritionist recommend? I was still on purees at 3 weeks but each program has a different set of protocols and dietary restrictions.

Thought eating was getting better, but going backwards?
BLERDgirl replied to FrankyG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1400 calories? At 6 weeks? I don't know many people on maintenance eating that much. My recommendation would be just meet the Protein and Fluid goals of 60 & 64 and get in your workouts. Eat slowly so that what you do eats stays down. Perhaps friend a few people on MFP and look at what they are eating. I'm about your height and at a much higher weight and I am losing steadily. I find that it helps to get the bulk of my protein in early in the day. This allows me time to sip Water and not feel rushed or pressured to get the rest of my protein in. -
I was told it's fairly common the first 6 mths to a year. My doctor started me on 20mg per day for the first 90 days. Around the time I started adding back foods I found I needed to increase it to 40mg. We're going to try that for another 90 days and see how things goes. Since the alternative is heartburn that could lead to ulcers, I prefer to take the PPI at least for the time being. Why be uncomfortable when you don't have to?
-
I've used everything from One a day to KIND to Centrium. SO far my bloodwork has all back perfectly fine.
-
It's hard to feel satisfied during the all liquid phase. The desire to chew perfectly normal. However yes, acid can mimic hunger pains so make sure you're taking your PPI. Once you move onto purees and soft foods, you'll feel more satisfied. I'm 4 mths and yes I do feel hunger, but I also get full quickly and both the desire and ability to over eat is gone.

Agave isn't fake. Just make sure you're buying the real thing. One of things I did was look begin to teach myself portion control. I wanted to eat as normally as possible. Otherwise it would feel like just another diet to me and I'm done with diets.Raw honey is my sweetener of choice but I don't drink coffee or tea daily and I don't eat a lot of sugar added foods. A tbsp of honey doesn't drastically change my numbers. Yesterday I had 929 calories 57carbs 47fat 75protein 1,127sodium 26sugar. Those are numbers I can live with. More importantly I can lose weight with those numbers. Some people like it, some don't. I personally find agave too sweet for my taste so I rarely use it.

Long term risks with 80% of Stomach Removed?
BLERDgirl replied to eaw434's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The human body is incredibly adaptive. We can live with 1 kidney, with no spleen, lost of limbs etc....I had a radical hysterectomy and had all my reproductive organs removed right down to the lymph nodes. As mentioned gastrectomies have been done for a very long time and people are able to go on and lead normal lives. -
How do we convince MFP we're not anorexic?
BLERDgirl replied to MisforMimi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I close my diary and ignore the message. MFP is not designed for bariatric diets. I like using it to track my food and just pretend I don't see that message. It's just not a big deal. -
Second at of preop diet...having big second thoughts about the whole thing!
BLERDgirl replied to Rosie77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes you will eat normally again. You just own't overeat which is what so many of us did pre-op. I do not feel like I am on a diet. I eat pretty much everything I ate before surgery, just in smaller portions. -
I'm done telling folks. They don't get it
BLERDgirl replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't make grand announcements about my life in general. This was no different. I'm not making up explanations because I don't owe anyone any explanations about my life. EVER. Everyone is on a need to know. There are some people who get the information and some don't. When I had my menicus repair done I didn't feel a need to post on FB or tell everyone. Why? Because it was a needed surgery for my health. My WLS is exactly the same. I'm not hiding, I'm just feel no need to broadcast. -

@@Chele Martines - sounds like you are eating too fast and getting either a case of stacking (that stuck feeling in the esophagus) or the foamies (too much saliva/phelgm). We have to eat super duper slow and chew really well. Especially early on. When you don't the food doesn't digest and "stacks" in your esophagus or it goes down too fast and displaces the saliva in your belly. Some have found success using the Eat Slower app. You can try taking one tiny bite, chewing until it dissolves, eating 2 minutes the repeat. Also remember to keep at least a 30 minute window on your eating and drinking. Also try playing around with the time of day you take your prilosec. I tended to get acid in the evenings so taking my omeprzole around 2 -3 pm made a difference for me. -
Vaseline worked for me.

Nothing. I carried very little and used everything I brought. I bought extra large undies to wear home. My iPad/iPhone and charger, a toothbrush and toothpaste. I didn't need a pillow. I only live 45 mins away from the hospital and I wasn't that much pain upon discharge. I found my hospital very accommodating.

@@Jana77 - Even easier just stop talking about it. There really is no need to continue to have confrontation when both sides are firmly decided. Simple say, "Thank you for your concern, but I no longer wish to have this discussion." Then stop. Stop before feelings are hurt and stop before you feel frustrated. if you need to walk away. Not every battle will be won. -

Best Non-Dairy Protein Supplement
BLERDgirl replied to heel5man's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm never crazy about the word "Best" since it's such a subjective term. It's really just a matter of finding what works for you and for each of that it would be different. There are several vegan Protein powders and shakes out there you can try. Bob'd Red Mill makes a soy isolate powder if you prefer to add your own flavoring. I also made a few other suggestions on this post. My recommendation is to google "Non dairy protein supplements" and start reading labels and reviews. Get as many samples as you can and taste them for yourself. -
Protein powder/bars safe for nut/soy/whey allergy?
BLERDgirl replied to nolongerhere's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
@ - You could try Orgain Organics. I did find it a little gritty but not as much when I blended it in a nutra bullet. I'm not sure how it mixes with Water. I always used almond milk, yogurt or juice. I actually thought it blended best with orange juice or pineapple juice and lots of ice. I've also use Biochem Vegan which states it can be mixed with water. I've used this one as well but never mixed it with water. You can buy this at Whole Foods which is where I used to get mine. Whole Foods also carries Hemp Protein. I tried a sample of this when I was pre-op. I didn't hate it, just didn't love it. I find most plant based Proteins have a little bit of grit. While they can be mixed in a shaker bottle, I think blending them in a nutra bullet or similar blender helps eliminate most of that grittiness. -
I think you need to self examine why you would sabotage yourself with not one but two drinks, not to mention bugles. Be honest with yourself. Remember this will not work if you are continually not following the program. An occasional treat is one thing, just be careful of the tendency to fall off the wagon this early in the process. Secondly eating slower is to 2 fold. It allow your brain and tummy time to communicate that you are full and thus prevents over eating. If you food gets cold, you could try serving smaller portions and if you are still hungry then getting seconds.
