  1. You need to eat more on more active days because you are burning more fat. I always plan for protein before and after a workout. Typically I do a protein shake at least 30 minutes before and a 1 oz of almond or cashews post workout. It helps your body burn fat and not muscle.
  2. As a single person I guess I see a difference. It's not that I don't have any support. Both my sister and my bestie were there for rides to the hospital and my mother went to the market for me that first week home. The difference was I didn't have anyone saying negative things to me. Then again I didn't look for people to support my decision or their opinion on the matter. I told my sister and besties 2 weeks before surgery and my mother who is a worrier literally 2 days before surgery. Can you do this with little to no support? YES. However it depends on your personality. As a single person not sharing my plans is typical. I didn't feel a need to talk about the process or the pre-op testing. As a married person who is used to sharing with their spouse it may be more of a challenge. Especially if they are responding out of fear and/or insecurities.

    Cheated postop...concerned

You may not be losing because you aren't getting in enough. By 3 weeks out you should be close to getting in 60gms of Protein and 64ounces of fluids. If you aren't ready for softs foods that''s okay but you really need those fluids to stay hydrated. A little soreness is not unusual. We have to eat super slow. Early on it was take a tiny bite, chew, chew, chew until it dissolves, wait 2 FULL minutes. Then and only then take another bite and repeat. If you are really having trouble keeping things down call your doctor. As for the scale. Put it away. I only get weighed at the doctor's. I focus on eating well. Try using an online app like Myfitnesspal, Sparkpeople or any of a zillion others. I look at what I'm eating and really watch my macros. Especially my carbs, sodium and sugars. So far I have yet to go to the doctor and not show a weight loss. Another thing to do now why you are just weeks out is take your measurements (neck/boobs/waist/hips). Retake them every 2 or 3 months. This way even when the scale isn't moving you can see the differences in your body.
  4. Agreed. I work out 4 - 5 days a week for at least an hour. However I noticed that as long as I ate well AND exercised at least 3 days a week I would lose. @@sa1976 - It sounds like you're doing a reasonable work out. I wouldn't worry about the calories burn thing.

    A New Day

Maybe it was because I was allowed full liquids but I would get full even in my full liquid phase.

    I am HUNGRYYYYY!

I made that ricotta bake after I was out for dinner with nothing to eat. I ordered stuffed shells and just ate the stuffing Then cam home and started making it in ramekins. You can up you Protein with greek yogurt. Thin it out by mixing it with the shakes you're drinking. Once you hit soft foods you can go half and half with mayo without changing the taste.

Ugh! That's too bad. Go back to what was working. Tell her the milk made you sick.
  8. I'm the exception to the rule. Other than the day before surgery I never had a clear liquid phase. Hopefully you choose your team because you trusted them. Call them and get clarification.

    I am HUNGRYYYYY!

Stomach of Iron here. Nothing made me sick. I got bored of the taste of Protein shakes in the all liquid phase, but everything stayed down from day 1. Hang in there. It's just 2 weeks. You can do this! However if you get to the point where NOTHING stays down call the doc ASAP.
  10. @@efierke - It's not a requirement. I didn't have to do 6 mths and my hospital also has the Bariatric Centers of Excellence designation. In fact I didn't have to do pre-op diet of any sort.
  11. i think I could eat about a ¼ cup of food . I ate a lot of eggs, occasionally grits, hummus, cottage cheese and whatever I thought to put in the nutrabullet. I also did the baked ricotta, but I just made it like the filling for stuffed shells, topped with tomato sauce and cheese and baked. I sometimes added a bit a pureed spinach.
  12. It's less about how much you are burning and more about consistency. You want to get your heart rate up and you want to work out for at least 30 mins a minimum of 2 times a week. Personally I know my body and I lose when I work out at least 3 times a week. However for me I don't lose unless I am also eating well and drinking Water.
  13. @@SAD HATTER - call them back and make them be specific. Explain that the program does monthly weight checks and ask if that would be sufficient or will they be requiring more detailed documentation. Make sure you get the full name of the person you speak to.
  14. Instead of guessing call or at least look up the policy online.

    Long term patients

What do you consider long term? I'm 5 mths out and have zero regrets. I had an easy surgical experience, rebounded quickly post-op and have had no issues eating or drinking.
  16. I'm still confused. Were you given verbal instructions, a written note, actual handouts? If you do a search you'll see that every program and protocol is different. I received an actual handbook with specific instructions and sample menus. During those first few weeks this handbook was literally my bible of sorts. I saved myself many a call to the nutritionist by consulting my handbook. Never once did I think, "well so and so on Bariatric Pal is eating this or that." If the nutritionist is on vacation, ask for the nurse. You should not be unsure about what you can/cannot eat drink.

    Non-Morphine Pain Meds....concerns

I didn't use the morphine pump in the hospital because I didn't have any pain. I also didn't get the prescription for pain filled upon discharge. I just didn't hurt. I was once given percocet for pain and ended up flushing it down the toilet because it made me hallucinate. However I have never developed a dependency for any pain meds given post op. If you don't need it, don't get it, but don't be a martyr and suffer if you do.
  18. It varies depending on your insurance. Your best bet is to call the insurance company and ask them. Then you can let the doctor's office know.

    Worried :(

Call your doctor and make them aware of the situation. This way you make sure he doesn't schedule you after the change goes into effect He wants to get paid, he will make sure that happens. *FYI - Email Alex about the duplicate post.

@@elladvyne - I always recommend to anyone with knee problems to try and locate a water aerobics class. It made a world of difference for me even before WLS.

Yes I use the unflavored. I can also mix this in with soup. I emailed the company and was assured that it can be added to hot or cold liquids. I take one scoop of the Isopure and a tsp of whatever liquid I have whether it's soup, coffee or tea. I whisk that together until it's smooth then add it to the already heated liquid. Some days I don't have a big appetite but I want to get in mu protein. A cup of soup or tea with Isopure mixed in is the perfect solution.

I don't do fake sugars or stevia. This morning my Protein shake was greek yogurt. Isopure Protein powder, almond butter, cacao (unsweetened chocolate) powder. A little bit of Water to blend and ice to make it cold. I mostly just play with favors I like. Fage 0% Greek yogurt plus Isopure naked whey protein provides a good 30 - 38 gms of protein. It's not too thick because I use water instead of milk. I ma vegetarian and have a lot of food allergies. Artificial food dyes & fake sugars are 2 of them. I use the Isopure because it's just plain whey protein. No added sugar or colorings. If I want to add sweetness I typically use raw honey.
