    New and doubting

At 5 days out thinking about food is perfectly normal. Just make sure you keep it down to thoughts and not actions. You've come this far as long as you stay the course it will be fine. Meanwhile find something else to occupy your mind. Once you start to progress back to foods, you can experiment with ways to get the flavors you like in a more healthful manner. For example I found that yogurt mixed with Protein powder and allowed to sit in the freezer for a bit, made a good substitute for pudding and gave me a nice protein boost. I also discovers black bean Pasta which helped when I wanted pasta. Many have reported liking the Campbells (I think) Soup starters. They have flavors like tortilla soup and such. Mixed with a bit of unflavored Protein Powder it can be a nice variation from sweet shakes. But use this time to think about how to adjust your eating habits. A year from now one slice of pizza and a salad may be satisfying, or you'll find you no longer even crave pizza.
  2. Try the clear drinks instead. Isopure make premixed ones, Syntrax nectar can be made with Water. I used ProSource NoCarb the first 2 weeks post op. It was great thinned with water or added to herbal teas. Also look for protein rich beverages. Kefir ( a yogurt drink), cream of chicken, beef, etc... thinned with broth, etc... Milk of choice: cow, hemp, almond have the most protein.

    Sooooo tired

Perfectly normal. recovery time varies person to person. Some of us snap back in a matter of days, other need a few weeks to sort ourselves.
  4. It's not uncommon but not everyone experiences this. I was peeing like a race horse from the moment I woke up in recovery. In fact it's the reason why I walked in recovery; I had to pee! I just didn't want to use a bed pan. My first day I may have gone to the bathroom every 30 mins. I didn't weigh myself until my 2 week f/u. Thankfully I saw a loss.

    Totally nervous.

Unless you were ginormous you should be fine. I started at an extremely high BMI and didn't even have a pre-op diet. I just ate sensibly the 2 weeks prior to surgery. My surgery went off without a hitch.
  6. Consult your NUT. Calorie goals will vary from individual to individual. However the point of the first 6 -8 months is to keep calories low . We all have plenty of fat reserves to live off of so as long as we hit protein/fluid and supplement goals we'll be okay.I think I did something like 400 - 600 the first 4 mths then did 800 calories until month 8 or 9. Even now I hit between 1000 and 1100 calories a day. I'm hitting a protein goal of 100gms and work out 4 - 6 days a week.

    I am PISSED!

Just keep trying to do better each day. I'd also step away from the scale for a bit. Especially if it's making you crazy.

    Eating if not hungry?

Early on I went through a period where I had no appetite at all. I literally just went through the motions. However I knew it was important to meet my protein and fluid goals so I aimed for that and nothing more. I just made sure I hit that. Protein is what helps us heal and allows us to lose

    Am I Nuts?

To be honest I saw my surgeon for my 2 week post op visit and the rest of my f/u's have been with the NP and the rest of the team. Unless you have complications he doesn't participate in the f/u's. However the rest of the team are people that I also saw at each pre-op visit so I don't feel neglected. They are also very responsive if I email with a question.

    Muscle Egg

I've heard of folks using egg protein but haven't personally tried it . Word of advice, just save the receipt and return it if you don't like it. Life's too short to eat nasty food.

    I am PISSED!

Do a search for 3 week stall. This is perfectly normal. Also if I may add, you may want to work on increasing your Protein intake. Meeting your protein and Fluid goals is the one the best things to help make the weight loss happen. Just be patient and stay the course. The weight loss will happen, I promise.

    Not losing

Perfectly normal. Weight loss is rarely linear. There will be stops, stalls and gains as your body adjusts and readjusts to all the new changes. So soon after surgery you could even still be carrying IV fluids. Do not worry. As long as you stick to the program and meet your protein & fluid goals the weight loss will happen.

I have been to gym everyday and still in stall!

Doesn't sound like you are getting enough protein in, hence the reason why your body isn't giving up the weight. Can you make an appointment specifically to speak with the NUT?

@@grandmaofone - it's really a matter of grin and bear it. If you are eating and drinking properly then it just a matter of when your body is ready to release the fat. Perhaps touch base with your NUT to make sure you are getting in enough nutrition.

    I am having potty problems

I have heard of others having this issue. Thankfully I haven't had bowel issues either way. If it's a matter of probiotics, perhaps it's because I eat a lot of greek yogurt.
  16. Taste is subjective. What one person likes you may hate. The only true option is to try a few for yourself. Just keep your receipts. If you dislike them you can return any unused portion.
  17. The clear Protein drink may work for you, however many of them are made with whey isolate. Since the lactose is removed you should be okay but for some highly sensitive people or people with dairy allergies even this can trigger a reaction. If that's the case you may need to look into vegan Protein drinks and powders.

    Sizing down in clothes

I'm like @@ShrinkingPeach - I lose in different areas. My upper body goes first, then my waist and my hips last. My solution is just elastic waist skirts and dresses. It's easier to get more wear out of things that way. I started at a 30/32 and I have clothes on hand up to a size 16. Now that I'm at a size 18 I have to pick up a few things here and there, but since I'm still losing I don't want to spend a lot. On my skirts I'm just tightening the elastic. Otherwise I take advantage of sales. So far I'm spending between $2 - $10 on new garment. The lone exception is workout wear but they get used the most so I don't mind.
  19. I choose the sleeve because I was not thrilled with the idea of the malabsorption or dumping. I have food allergies and was getting sick enough from that. I looked at 2 programs one recommended bypass, the other recommended the sleeve. Ironically enough the tipping point for me was speaking to a friend who had gotten the bypass. I choose her surgeon to do my sleeve. I had a super easy time of it and despite starting from a high BMI am steadily losing weight. The bonus is my allergies are under control for the first time in years.

    Bad food cravings, any suggestions?

Big difference between eating a little and eating until you are full. Each person need to be honest with themselves as to what's a binge food and what can be had in a reasonable amount as part of balanced meal.

What to bring day of surgery!?!

I packed very light and only brought bare minimum. My hospital provided toiletries and I lived 30 mins away. I brought my toothbrush, iPhone, iPad, charger, underwear and my glasses.

    Bad food cravings, any suggestions?

Not a good idea to stop when "full" Chasing that full feeling is a good way to over eat.

    Bad food cravings, any suggestions?

Go for the flavors, not the calories. A salad with Mexican flavored lean Protein, bean, avocado and tomatoes? Tortilla Soup without the tortillas on top? YUM! I make spaghetti squash, or use black bean Pasta. A quarter cup of mac & cheese with a lean protein is also a balanced meal once in a while. However, if you are missing the processed carbs, then that's a different issue because processed carbs make you crave them the more you eat them and they can impede your weight loss. Breads, pastas, things in a box avoid like the plague.

    Beware Peanuts!

I love nuts. Pistachios are my go to, but I also like almonds and cashews. However I can't have them in the house. Even if I premeasure and separate them into individual serving sizes I gobble them right up. So now I only buy the single serving packs. Often I'll stop by CVS/Walgreens/Rite Aide on my way home from the gym and buy that one pack. If I'm home and want them, I'll walk or drive to the store, but I am only allowed that one pack. As a special splurge I may treat myself to the Brookside dark chocolate covered almonds. Depending on the snack it only runs between 160 -200 calories and a nice bit of Protein and Fiber. I always log it on MFP.
  25. Go back to basics. Often people stop losing because they stop practicing those good habits. They start snacking and making not so great food choices. Carbs aren't evil, it's the type of carbs you eat that may cause trouble. Overly processed, highly refined carbs do indeed make you crave them more and more with little nutritional benefit. Replace those carbs with healthy ones and only eat a reasonable amount. Plan and log your food. Hit your Protein and Fluid goals. Exercise.
