  1. I eat real oatmeal as in rolled oats. It has 13gms of protein in ½cup . It is also a good source of fiber which means you may not get constipated. It does contain carbs. Have it for breakfast and as long as you are fairly active throughout the day you should be fine. I prepare mine with water, and season with vanilla protein powder and add a teaspoon of dried cranberries. You can also make overnight oatmeal by mixing with Greek yogurt, and seasonings and let it sit overnight. This is great if you are often on the go as you can prepare it the night before and just grab & go in the morning.
  2. It's probably mostly cardio. Some of the machines could be weight training. Ask the facilitators who work there.

    Pre op worries

Caffienated drinks depends on the person and the program. I started drinking regular coffee again at 6 weeks. I don't drink it everyday, maybe once or twice a week. Check with your nutritionist.
  4. Except for Vitamin K, Vitamin A, Fiber and depending on your choice of greens even a bit of Protein. Yeah, no substance at all. I eat real food, get 70+ protein a day and have NEVER been constipated.

    3 days post op starving!

@@Grateful_Love - No some people just need to hit that purees/soft foods stage before they feel full. Some people never feel full. My advice is follow you doctor/nutritionist serving size suggestion and stop. Don't depend on that full sensation, especially early on.
  6. Yes it is. The point is to be active. You may need to add in some weight lifting post op, but really any consistent exercise, even just walking is good. I swear the core workouts I did pre-op are what made recovery so easy for me. I didn't have any pain, it just felt like I had done 100 sit ups the day before.
  7. I talked to my nutritionist about that same thing. She said "ideally" you should get your protein in over the period of the day, however is get 58 grams of protein in a shake and I have had no problems. I have lost 140 pounds and no issues whatsoever. No hair loss, no stalls, no problems with drinking or eating. That's what I do. My big AM shake is usually split in 2. I drink half pre workout and the other half post workout. No hair loss, no stalls and no problems eating or drinking.

    3 days post op starving!

I assure you it's mostly acid. Get a good PPI, omeprazole or Gas-x strips. Give your body time to adjust to the new changes.

    Unknown symptoms...

I had the lump in the throat feeling before I increased my PPI to 40mg. At first I thought I was just too full and then I realized it was acid and that it often appeared around the same time each day. Once I increased my PPI I was fine.
  10. it took me a good 2 weeks to build up to getting 60 grams of protein but now I get over 70 most days. As for fluids what I started doing was adding loads of ice and a tiny bit of water with my protein shakes. I then just sipped all day. It was a good way to get both protein and fluids in one shot. At nearly 6 mths out I still start most days with a protein shake. I use FAGE 0% greek yogurt which is 23 gms of protein per cup, add a scoop of protein powder (Isopure unflavored) which is 26gms per scoop plus any flavorings I want. My protein shakes usually are between 30 - 40 gms of protein. Te rest I get from food. If I'm a little low then dinner is usually a cup of soup with a scoop of Isopure mixed in.
  11. Sit yourself down and come up with a list of things to do instead of turning to food. Call it 'When I miss dad I will..." or something like that. remind yourself that doing these things is the best way to honor your father. I am so sorry for your lost. Hopefully the doctor can connect you with some good help. If you still find yourself struggling, don;t wait for that 9 mth appointment. Call the doctor and request that referral ASAP.

    Pre op worries

You will pretty much everything you ate before but in much smaller portions. I have the tummy made of steel. I can eat bread and white carbs, I choose not to until I hit goal.

    Unknown symptoms...

Editing your profile can only be done from desktop. As others have mentioned you likely need a PPI. Start with 20 mgs and if you don't feel relief in a week up that to 40mgs. The other thing is try to take it before the acid hits. I used to get that feeling in the late afternoon.early evenings. I started taking my PPI around 2 - 3pm. It takes a 3 - 4 days to get into your system so you should know within a week if the PPI is working.

    Scared

Work out, moisturize and wear compression pants and tops whenever possible. There are no guarantees but that the best you can do. Trust me, a little loose skin is far better than pounds of extra weight.

    Scared

I was over that and my surgery was a breeze. In fact from reading the forums my surgery was easier than some who were half my weight. I didn't have one single complication, no pain, no gas, didn't need pain meds, walked in recovery, you name it. I've been losing steadily.

    Weight loss doesn't stop

I recall the post that @@Kindle is referring to. However I have also seen many more successful sleevers who are at goal and maintaining. The key is to switching to a maintenance diet.
  17. I was one of the ones full on liquids, but even more so once I moved to purees and soft foods. However I caution you not to rely on that full feeling. Eat the amount recommended by your nutritionist or doctor and stop. For some that full feeling can be a bridge too far and lead to feeling very uncomfortable. For others it can be a slippery slope to once again over eating. We're trying to learn new eating behaviors, this is a golden opportunity to start anew.

    Discouraged

She's not talking about a vegetarian or vegan diet. OP is talking about some extreme "fruit & veg diet".
  19. @@Boogirl6 - It will be a challenge. Your choices are either whey isolate or soy isolate for Protein powder. If you do no dairy at all you'll end up relying pretty much on Beans for food based Proteins. Do your research before committing to this. I like almond milk but it's a bit carb heavy and you only get I think 9 gms of protein per cup. Hemp milk reportedly has more protein but I haven't tasted it. I'm not doing a lot of non dairy milk these days since the carb/protein ration doesn't make it worth it for me. I don't like drinking cow's milk, but I'm okay with 0% greek yogurt since it's a bigger protein payoff for the carbs.

DENIED Blue Cross and I'm RANGING with anger!

@@Mom0f3inOC - YAY! so happy for you. This is why I always advise people to appeal.
  21. I can't get my Unjury to blend for the life of me!! Spoon, magic bullet, shaker bottle, warm Water, cold water, room temp--it stays clumpy no matter what! I do. Same thing with Syntrax! (I've only tried fruity ones so far.) I think I'm Protein cursed. I really had high hopes for those, but unless I'm doing it wrong, I can't recommend either brand. I like premier and for pre-op, I'm using GNC lean shakes. I don't use it. It has too many additives & artificial ingredients for my taste, but the best way to mix powdered ingredients is to take a scoop of whatever powder & add maybe a half of a tbsp of water or liquid and whisk that together then slowly add more if the liquid.
  22. There is no best. There are some brands more popular than others, but in the end the "best" powder is the one that works for you. I've tried several: Premiere Protein - sickly sweet Orgain Organics - I like the RTD but find it carb heavy. The powder can be gritty unless you have a nutra bullet or similar. Prosource NoCarb liquid - Good for those early post-op days but very sweet & thick. Needs to be diluted. However it will also work with hot beverages like tea. CVS Whey - Pretty good for a low price. They also have a sunfiber variety but that can be a bit sweet. Isopure Unflavored -My personal favorite. Mixes with hot or cold. Also mixes with yogurt, cottage cheese or Soup. Minimal ingredients - 100% pure whey isolate. Personally I think it's a matter of trial and error to find one that best suits you. Buy single serving or sample sizes of as many as possible and taste them for yourself.
  23. You said it. Eff em'! I went through 3 ½ mths of testing, surgery to place an IVC filter and another to remove it. I work out 5 - 6 days a week and keep a food diary to monitor everything I eat. If that's easy I must be living in bizarro land.
  24. I take the following: multi am/pm D3 am/pm calcium citrate +D am/pm B12 sublingual - once a week I was also taking ompreazole 40mgs 1x a day, but the acid issue seems to have resolved itself. I have't taken a pill for week now. I resumed Water aerobics at week 3, but I was walking 30 minutes a day from day 1. Added weight lifting around week 5. Workout now 5 - 6 days a week.

Can not do my surgery because my sugar is too high :(

What type of sweetener is in your protein shake? Try diluting it with skim milk instead. Also it the dark green veg that pack the most nutritious punch. Oatmeal can sometimes help as well. If you can start taking a 30 minute walk each day. Remember your surgeon is not trying to punish you. He's trying to ensure you have a positive surgery. Hang in there and fight to get the numbers down.
