"picky eaters" - my pet peeve

Same here. They thought I was faking the gagging as a child until I barfed them up. Even now as an adult I pick them out of Soups.

Wait what? That's not really a stall. Stalls last for prolonged periods of time. A week is not that bad. Perhaps it would be best to step away from the scale a bit.

Yes. The lower your BMI gets and the closer you get to goal the more your body will try to hold on to the fat. Just keep doing what you are doing. Maybe look for NSV's instead.

    3 days in...

I was walking week 1. Week 2 I could do very light exercise. Week 3 I returned to Water aerobics. I was working on drinking 60gms(minimum) of and 64 ounces of fluids. It probably took 2 weeks to work up to those levels. I was given a list of what I could have. I was on a full liquid diet of Protein drinks, teas, soups and yogurts for the 1st 2 weeks, then pureed food for 2 weeks then soft foods for 2 weeks. Ask your program what you should be eating/drinking.
  5. You have a healing new tummy, the carbonation would not be kind to it. Some do return to sodas, but most programs frown upon it. The caffeine issue is a little more complicated. From what I gather it's more of a US issue. The concern is that caffeine can aggravate or cause increased stomach acid so some do not allow it. I was able to return to coffee drinking around 6 weeks post op. I am unclear about the popiscles and Jello. However they weren't a big deal for me. I dislike jello and I don't use artificial sugar. I did use either. If you are unclear as to why your program doesn't allow some things, you really need to ask them to explain why.

    Smoothie ingredients

Talk to your nutritionist. I don't particularly care for chia so I didn't use it, but spirulina and cacao were no problem. In fact my fav was protein powder, cacao, greek yogurt and almond butter. Sort of taste like Reese's to me. When in doubt, call your nutritionist.

"picky eaters" - my pet peeve

My pet peeve is people who call someone a "picky eater". I have multiple food allergies. You better believe I read labels and don't eat or drink everything put in front of me. I probably would be considered a "delicate eater". I also have a bit of a tactile issue with certain textures and cooking methods even when they make little sense. The biggest oxymoron? Carrots. I will eat them raw or very lightly steamed. Cooked the make me gag. The exception? Carrot cake. But here's the thing, you'd be surprised at hows fat finds you. I have been vegetarian for 15 years. I gained from a combination of illness and an over reliance on carbs. Even adjusting my eating couldn't reverse the damage that chronic conditions and years of bad eating had done.

    Keeping Busy

Exercise. I was actually in the middle of water aerobics when it dawned on me that one of the moves we do often may have strengthened the muscles in abdominal area and possibly have been why I had no pain post op.

    10-15 vitamins a day?

@@jacileggs - Why cymbalta? My sister takes that for her fibromyalgia.

    Jumping to Conclusions!

I seem to recall some restaurants or a particular chain honoring that but from what I remember if it's a franchise, it's up to the management of a particular restaurant to determine whether they want to honor that or not.

    10-15 vitamins a day?

The one thing you will soon discover is that there are many different protocols for bariatric programs. Some doctors are very conservative and basically have patients following the same vitamin/supplement protocol as bypass patients. Some simply recommend a multivitamin. It's good to hear different opinions here on the forums but ultimately you need to follow the instructions you get from your doctor/nutritionist. These are the people you have entrusted with your care. They are the ones responsible for making sure you have regular bloodwork and recommend any adjustments. If you take any other supplements outside of what is recommended, they are the one should discuss and review that with. Develop good communication with them to make sure you are doing what's best for you.

So your advice is to punish herself to get back at a bunch of people on the internet she never met?

    Feeling down

Buy one and try it. I found I prefer the powder but mix it with water. I'm allergic dyes & artificial sugars but a lot of people like these and as mentioned it does double duty in terms of water & protein

    Feeling down

You are very early out. All of what you are experiencing is perfectly normal. Some of us do better doing things alone than others. This board can be a big source of support. Consider us your support group. If you continue to have difficulty sleeping call your doctor and see about getting something short term. Once you get enough rest it will be easier to handle the adjustments your body is making. Just keep sipping so you don't get dehydrated.
  15. Why not give your nutritionist a call? Every program will have a different protocol.
  16. It doesn't bother me because I know that unless I am using the very same scales that the manufacturer used my measurements won't be exact. I am a home cook that rarely follows a recipe so exact measurements never bothered me anyway. As for worrying about a single bite, nope not a worry as long as I am honest about when a bite turns into a small serving. Since nothing is perfect in this world anyway, I realize that there is a plus/minus on every single measurement there is.
  17. It's just me and hubby right now (kids are grown. YAY!) and we eat out a lot. This has been the challenge for me, also. How do those of you who log handle that? I usually just "guestimate", but yes, it bothers me to no end. I log off and on, and if I can't do it accurately, then why do it at all? I love the UPC scan thing on MFP, because it's fool proof. A restaurant? Not so much.

    Jumping to Conclusions!

Personally I would have edited the original post and then @ replied to a few of those who made the assumption. Everyone is different and I realize we live in the day & age of TL,DR but I always read the first post and at least skim through any thread before adding my 2 cents.
  19. Yup, I did. I am a vegetarian and I missed my veggies. I started adding spinach to my smoothies in week 1. The best part is, it may help you not become constipated.

    Really? 7 lbs?

@@kimpossible67 - might be muscle. I decided early on I want to be strong, curvy and healthy. I don't just want to be skinny. If that means I have a slower weight loss, then so be it. I still want to have boobs and a booty when I reach goal. If I can have Michelle Obama arms I will be over the moon.

Totally frustrated and don't know what to do

@@yoyolifechange11 - Do what you think is best for YOU! WLS is just a tool, you will have to watch what you eat and exercise. If you think this will help set you on that path, then go for it. However my concern is the treatment you are receiving. Shaming you for being less than perfect is not likely to change once you lose the weight. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it shifted to something else. My recommendation is to work on YOU. Whether that needs to be with therapy, marriage counseling, WLS or any combination of that find out what makes YOU happy and healthy first. I was over 400lbs when I had my surgery . Guess what? I ALWAYS felt pretty! I just wanted to be a healthier me. Do not allow anyone to ever make you feel un-pretty! PS. - Don't confuse love with control.

    10-15 vitamins a day?

I'm think it can depend on your bloodwork as well. I eat a LOT of yogurt so I don't need extra Probiotics. I also eat a lot of Beans and green veg so I don't need to add fiber to my diet. So far my bloodwork has been at or above recommended levels and I'm not only any other med besides the ZyrtecD so I have it pretty easy. It does become second nature, so even though it looks like a lot on paper, it really doesn't feel overwhelming at all.

    Low potassium level!?!?

I haven;t had this issue. Did they give you any recommendations on how to pull those levels up? I know bananas are high in potassium (but also high in sugar), as are coconut Water and gatorade which are both lower cal/sugar ways to get potassium. I think some leafy greens are good for potassium as well. Let me go google. Here ya go!

I was in that thread. Most comments weren't rude, but perhaps it would have been easier to nip that in the bud and clarify than create a separate post to complain. Most people here want to assist, but often people aren't clear enough in their initial post to enable us to help.
