7 weeks out. How much to eat?
BLERDgirl replied to ls27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can easily go all day without eating, but that's not good for you. You don't need to eat a lot, but you should aim for at least 3 meals a day and you really want to make sure you hit your protein and fluid levels. -
That's why it's important to have regular bloodwork done to monitor your levels.

Please Tell Me It Gets Better...
BLERDgirl replied to kcdavidson42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The smell of food makes me sick to my stomach so I rarely get to the mashing of food because being around it makes me want to vomit. Can you eat yogurt? You need to seek out either some foods with higher Protein or cal your doctor and get something for the nausea. Even Protein Bars might be better than graham crackers. -
Pain Ranking: C-Section vs. Sleeve
BLERDgirl replied to Garifab_VSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't had a C section, but I had a radical hysterectomy in which everything was removed; ovaries, lymph nodes, uterus and fallopian tubes. I also weighed at least 90 lbs less than when I had my VSG. Both were done laparoscopically. I kid you not, the VSG was easier by miles. -
How did you know when you were full?
BLERDgirl replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was on full liquids from day 1 so I could have yogurt drinks and smoothies. I felt full almost always and just sipped all day. Once I graduated to purees I found that I needed to stick to the ¼ cup or ½ cup recommended, but minus 2 bites. I would always get full 2 bites shy and at first I was forcing the food in but I would get really full on the verge of discomfort. I didn't want to start any bad habits, so I just started preparing my food minus that those 2 bites. Now I burp right before I am stuffed and I stop. Going past that makes me uncomfortably full. -

BLERDgirl replied to kcdavidson42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can I ask what types/brands of Protein drinks you've tried. Also is it the sweetness that you dislike? Are you on full liquids? Have you tried protein waters instead? You need to explore alternative ways to get in your protein. if you are truly miserable, you should call your nutritionist and talk to them. -
Pre- admission is usually just bloodwork and instructions on where to report, what time what to bring, not bring etc.... My hospital also gives you a duffle bag to carry your things in. My sister calls it my hospital weekend luggage. I got the garment bag & hanger when I had my IVC filter put in. They stored my clothes in it since it was a same day procedure.

Only off 7 days from work. Is this too soon?
BLERDgirl replied to SouthernBelle69's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@SouthernBelle69 - Honestly there's no way to predict. I am retired, but if I was working I could have easily returned to work in a week. I was pretty bored waiting to get cleared to returned to the gym. -
You're fine. I didn't take any pains meds once I woke up in recovery and never even bothered to get the prescription filled. The only thing I would suggest is to start working on building up your Protein and Fluid levels. As for the chicken broth, if you don;t like it, don't drink it. Just make sure you are aiming for that minimum 60gms of protein and 64 ounces of fluids. It take a minute to work up to that, but keep it as your aim. ALso if you are feeling good start taking short walks each day. You can split it into 2 15 minute walks or 1 30 minute walk.

@ - I was told to eat I could eat whatever I could tolerate after 6 weeks, so yeah.

So I have heard contradictory stories.....why are we not suppose to drink from a straw?
BLERDgirl replied to Thinkingthinner1109's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I was told it could cause extra air/gas which can be uncomfortable, but nothing was said stretching the stomach. -
Is this your first pre-op appointment? Technically speaking all your appointments with the bariatric team before surgery are pre-op. Do you mean pre-admission appointment?

Why is it important to eat after dinner
BLERDgirl replied to jaysleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just eat later. My dinner usually occurs between 7 and 9. I am also a night owl. Bedtime for me is between 12 and 1 am. -
Marijuana and Life after Bariatric Surgery
BLERDgirl replied to jadama22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@jadama22 - I'd say hold off for now. It probably goes in the same boat as alcohol which also needs to be put on hold. So ask your nutritionist about when you can drink again and stick to that. -
I'm still here and doing well!
BLERDgirl replied to nprcowboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Who cares about typos? It's so nice to hear that things are going well for you! I hope it continues to do so! Here's hoping the job search goes well! Thanks for the update! -
I don't keep anything in the house I can't have around without worry of binging. If I still feel the urge to nibble, I make myself drink at least 6 -8 ounces of water first. That usually does the trick.

Anyone get mad at you yet over what you can and can't have...
BLERDgirl replied to amponder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My mom used to get mad when they would go to a steak house and I would stay home. It took repeatedly telling her I wasn't paying $50 for mediocre salad for her to finally get the message. -
Use the DM feature and just add who you want to the conversation. Click on the menu grid in the upper left corner. Then scroll down to message.

Anyone get mad at you yet over what you can and can't have...
BLERDgirl replied to amponder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think this part was easy for me. I'm a vegetarian with food allergies. Unless I was out with only vegetarians I was always odd man out. I was never tempted to eat the foods I'm allergic to because my allergy reaction was anaphylaxis. I learned long ago to either not eat or bring my own. I also became quite adept at informing people beforehand. I'd say something like "I'd love to come & spend time with you all but I can't have ____. I don't want to put you out. Do you mind if I bring my own?" If the family was having lasagna, you could have done a ricotta bake. Similar flavors so you wouldn't feel deprived. Sometimes people would ask what I could eat and make it for me, but I never expected that. I always made sure people knew it was their company that I valued the most. -
Enough drama . . . what's for dinner this week?!
BLERDgirl replied to gal friday's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I made a really good pot of cabbage & white bean soup. Most nights I like to eat light so I'll probably alternate between that and a salad with black beans & a sunny side up egg. I use salsa instead of salad dressing. -
Day 10 post op - scale did not go down
BLERDgirl replied to michellc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stop feeling that you have to tell people how much you've lost. I now simply say, "quite a bit" or "I'm working hard." The number is going to change and at some point stop or slow down. I don't want the only conversation to be about my weight. -
7 weeks out. How much to eat?
BLERDgirl replied to ls27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's 64 ounces of fluid. It should be mostly water, but it's fluids that count. If you protein shake is 11ounce and you're drinking 32 ounce of water, that's 43 ounces of fluids. Try to work in one more bottle of water and you're set (sorta). -
I didn't cheat pre-op. I didn't have a pre-op diet, but I was asked to cut back and I did. You've fallen off the wagon. What can you do differently? I cleaned my house of any food that I would be tempted with. Think about what you can do to prevent any further slip ups and move on. Start practicing new food behaviors now. You have a few months to work on things.

When should I take my vitamins?
BLERDgirl replied to newrose2427's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check the labels on your multi's. Most contain iron. Iron and calcium need to be separated by 2 hours or they cancel each other out.
