I'm sorry, have we met before?

    Sleeved 7/1/14 and failing miserably!

When you are given instructions you find vague from doctor's and/or medical staff, I find it best to ask for specific examples. Most bariatric programs can provide or at least direct you to where to get sample menus. As for eating during the day. Pack your lunch and Snacks.

Nope. I have one of those faces. The size may have gone up and down a bit, but I literally have looked exactly the same since I was 3 years old.
  5. I agree, perhaps adjust your meal plan to include some nutritious Snacks instead of beating yourself up. I mostly eat 3 meals a day, but I always allow for an afternoon snack if I need one. Continue to work on your emotional health. Hopefully with Spring coming things will ease up for you a bit.

    Second surgery!?!?

After only 21 days he wants to go to the next surgery? How severe is your acid. Personally I would recommend giving your body a bit of time to settle down before jumping into another surgery.

@@jackersducky - Is there anyway you can develop stress relievers that aren't food related? That's a good tool to have even for people who haven't had WLS. Someone mentioned walking. This is not on a nice couples thing to do, it can also be a good stress reliever. How about an after dinner or pre dinner couple walk? You get to talk and decompress after a long day and get in some exercise. Another thing could be taking a free or low cost class together. Meetup.com has great ones available. Check also your local library and community centers. Keep the focus on doing something as a couple and making it non food related. Let those be the main parameters so he doesn't feel like he's being forced to diet.

@@heynowkc - You work up to it. I was given minimum goal of at least 60 grams of Protein. It took a good 2 -3 weeks to work up to meeting that. However once I got that under control I was able to see how I could add in more while balancing my other micro-nutrients. I average about 70-80gms a day, but occasionally go higher. Yesterday I hit 92. It takes some time. Just keep shooting for it.

@@jackersducky - That's not quite a year out. Is there any reason you can't contact your program and schedule a follow up appointment with them. Seeing the doctor and nutritionist might be a more helpful way to help get you back on track.

  12. I think it's all just a slippery slope to fat shaming. There are so many factors to consider. food Desserts, the effects growing up poor has on your views towards food AND your taste buds. Listen I was a chubby kid who turned into a fat adult. I also traveled while fat, skied while fat, hiked while fat. I climbed the Great Wall of China & the ruins at Xel Ha while fat. I never felt ashamed or embarrassed with who I was. I loved clothes and fashion, still do. As much as I think wls needs to be de-stigmatized, I also don't think we have the right to feel superior for choosing it.

    Anyone from Philadelphia?

I'm from Philly, but I had surgery at UPenn. I'm not a smoker so I didn't have a nicotine test.

    So many Questions?!?

Do a search on the forums. This question has been answered many times over. Ask 5 people and you will get 5 different answers. It varies from program to program and dependent on insurance. As for if it's worth it, well I doubt there would be a flourishing community if it wasn't.
  16. Sometimes you gotta live and let live. I feel the same way when I hear people talking about all the processed foods and artificial or synthetic ingredients. Especially when it comes to bariatric patients. All these artificial dyes and chemicals aren't good for anyone, I just happen to be one of those who has more obvious physical reactions. What I do wish is that we lived in a society that valued eating real, whole food. That we were taught and teach our young people to like vegetables and drinking Water. I wish we lived in a world where GMO's weren't even an option, much less a debate.
  17. @@newrose2427 Did you call and ask your doctor?
  18. Possible. I'm 6mths and lost 75lbs since day of surgery. I didn't have a pre-op diet, but many did. I'm sure if I had done a pre-op diet I would easily be down another 10 -20lbs.

    What should I pack?

I was a minimalist. I took cords and chargers for my iPhone /iPad, spare underwear in a larger size for comfort, deodorant and my toothbrush. My hospital was really good about providing everything I needed. A nurse brought me vaseline for my lips. I didn't have an issue wearing 2 gowns for modesty.

    Protein shakes ????

My nutritionist has similar guidelines. Too lazy to look for my handbook, but I think the rules were 20 gms Protein, low carbs and sugar under 8 gms per serving. It also had to be isolates and not concentrates. My own issues were allergies to food dyes, artificial sugars and stevia. Sucrolose was okay for a bit but eventually started irritating me as well. I also can't eat processed foods, so they needed to have minimal ingredients. I finally settled on Isopure unflavored whey isolate. I then make my own in the nutra bullet with FAGE 0% greek yogurt. I added fresh fruit, almond butter or cacao powder to flavor them. Premade I like Orgain Organics.

    Hundred pound weight loss

That's terrific. I've decided that when I get to that point I'm going to take another picture in the same dress I'm wearing in my before picture to see the difference.
  23. This topic comes up at least once a month like clockwork. Here's my opinion. You can for a search to see others: A. There is nothing to be ashamed of regarding WLS. B. You are not obligated to tell anyone anything. C. There is no need to lie. If someone asks about your weight loss, say "Thank you" and keep it moving. Unless you want to discuss it and are prepared to deal with the nay sayers, don't put yourself in a position to look like a liar or a weak person. I pick and choose who I share info with, but I am a private person by nature. I am picky about what aspects of my personal life I share in general.
