    questions about surgery

You should ask your doctor these questions. Answers vary from surgeon to surgeon and patient to patient. 1.I was not cathed. 2.I was in the hospital for 2 days and stayed in a gown. I didn't care. 3. I was allowed family members.

    Soft Foods

@@js1234567890 - When you feel up to it. BTW - Here are the pages for pureed foods from my handbook. If anyone needs it I can get the soft foods list as well. However I would strongly encourage anyone with questions to contact their nutritionist for clarification.

Getting sick of this liquid only phase

@@OneDollarBill - I feel you! I only had a 2 week full liquid phase and by that last day I was ready to throw those things out the window! Somehow I survived. You will too. Just come here and scream when you need to.

@@Peekboo - One other thing. I change up and increase my calories according to my activity level. The menu I posted was a non gym day. I don't work so if I am running errands and going to doctor's appointments I tend to eat lighter. Mind you all the things I am doing I have discussed and reviewed with my nutritionist. These are things that work for me.

    FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

Yep all that says is the GI test found nothing unusual. You say you did everything right. What's a typical food day for you? How much Protein are you getting? How much exercise do you do? How many calories a day are you eating? Approximately how much do you need to lose? How old are you?
  7. It's still NONE of anyone's business. You are taking a few days off. Period. You are under NO obligation to say anything further. If they want to speculate, oh well.....

    Breakfast question

The closest to a carby breakfast is having oatmeal for breakfast. However I make mine from scratch & rolled oats contain protein. I also add either RTD protein or protein powder to that.

    Second surgery!?!?

That sounds awful! I truly hope the lava stops & you don't need a second surgery.

    1 week post op

It does indeed get better. If you are truly miserable speak with your doctor about pain management. Now here's the hard part; you need to walk. Try walking for 5 minutes every hour. In between walking just sip, sip and get sipping. You don't want to get dehydrated. Also make sure you sit or stand for at least 30 mins after drinking

    Breakfast question

I haven't because I have a long way to go so I'm mostly avoiding breads. There are recipes that use ricotta and/or protein powder. Technically I could, I just don't. I'm not a big breakfast eater. I was drinking protein shakes for breakfast before WLS and I still do that.

4wk post op weight loss 1 stone

When is the last time you lost 14lbs in a month? Step away from the scale, and focus on the program. Take your measurements if you want to monitor your progress. Get in that protein and fluid.

    How many calories a day?

It depends on what you are eating and/or supplements. At 6 mths I still rarely go over 900 calories, but my diet is very protein dense and my carbs are mostly complex carbs like beans. I exercise 5 -6 days a week and have loads of energy.

    Surgery 3-16-15 an starving

Call your nutritionist. You probably need a PPI, but you also need to make better food choices. Whether you are allowed full liquids, purees or soft foods the rules are the same; Protein first, then veg and gets your fluids. Failure to do this can not only leave you malnourished because you are filling that tiny space with the wrong things, it can lead to extreme hair loss. Call your nutritionist and get back on plan.

    psychology consult time

I dunno. Maybe about an hour. I'm chatty. I could talk the paint off walls. I had a short questionnaire that I was given at my first appointment. I filled that out at home and she reviewed it. Then we just chatted.

    6 days post op

Take a deep breath and try to relax. A week out your number one job is to stay hydrated, Most of what you are dealing with is mental. So focus on sipping. Water is best, but really sip on any liquid you like. Food will some later. If you are all liquids, adding a small amount (no more than a tbsp) of nut butter may satiate you. Do not rush to get back to your former foods. Reminds yourself it's only temporary. It's hard to see but you'll look back and realize it was just a few days.

    African American vsgers!

It doesn't clump in coffee or when I add it to Soup. I mix it separately then slowly add it in so it doesn't clump. I don't eat Quest bars. They have too many ingredients like artificial colorings/food dyes, artificial flavorings and sugars for me. I am allergic to those things. I am also allergic to stevia. There are some all natural Protein Bars out there, but that taste so cookie like that I would be tempted to over eat them. I rarely buy them as a rule. I do keep one or 2 in the glove compartment for emergencies but I tend to go for Larabars, or Lenny & Larry bars. They also have a lot of carbs. Since I eat a lot of Beans and green veg, my carbs can be high at times as it is. For me Protein bars are rarely more than an occasional treat.

I find it work best if you dissolve it in a small amount of water before adding to any beverage whether hot or cold. I find it blends in more smoothly that way.
  22. To be honest, I find it to be more of a cultural thing. I've found in the AA and Hispanic communities that men are more accepting of curvier gals. In my circle of friends I am not a rarity at all. My friends have always ranged in size from 0 - 34. None of us has ever had difficulty dating or enjoying and active and happy life. None of us was ever afraid to dance or exercise. However, its still a bit of a reach because you simply can't look at someone who is overweight and assume it's because of a poor diet. Yes, my health improved when I stopped eating processed foods, but I never a big meal eater or an extreme junk food eater. It's the same thing with people who look at me and question why I am on disability. Since you can see the tumor in my head, or the permanent balance disorder that sometimes has me literally falling out of bed, people want to assume I am the stereotypical "fraud". I stated earlier in this post, I wish the issue was more on nutrition and what this country is doing to our food supply than trying to blame obese people. Oddly enough no one seems to feel that same pity for the skinny young person who eats a diet of crap. We have post-ops who still occasionally eat at McDonalds and such and I wouldn't touch that crap with a ten foot pole. So yeah, I feel bad for people who have low self esteem because of their weight. But let's not assume because you felt that way that everyone does.

    African American vsgers!

Today it was cold. I make a cup of coffee, put half in the fridge and half in ice cube trays. I toss the whole thing in the nutra bullet and blend with a little bit of water. The Isopure unflavored can be mixed hot or cold so sometimes I will add it to a hot coffee or tea.
  24. @@Cupcake - WUT? Project much? Let me tell you at 20 I was happy! No pain in my eyes. As I said earlier I was climbing the Great Wall of China, the runs ins Xel -Ha and swimming with the dolphins. I also ate for the most part fairly nutritious. Food didn't control my life, my body rebelling against me did.
