    Everyone exercises?

Unless you have a truly active lifestyle, something beyond an office job or shuttling the kids around, we need to exercise. For most of us city folks that means we need to workout. I do traditional exercise, but I also enjoy finding the fun workouts. Check you local community center or Groupon for belly dancing, tap dancing, rock climbing, trampolining or any other outrageous thing you never imagined trying! You'll be surprised how much you can enjoy it. I don't want any of this to be drudgery for me.

How do you recover from really tough workouts?

You might want to get one of those backpack for cyclist so that you can drink as you ride. Fill it up with water or a water/gatorade combo (Personally I prefer coconut water over gatorade) so you can stay hydrated during the ride.
  3. That doesn't hold true for all carbs. My carbs are often over 40 but they are from plant based sources not potatoes, pastas or breads. 6mths out and I have yet to experience a stall.

    Vitamins?

I was given a handbook that outlined everything from day 1 to a year out. I meet with the nutritionist at every f/u appointment. I can also contact my team via phone if it's a emergency or email for non urgent issues.

How do you recover from really tough workouts?

No need for guilt. My calories are always higher on a more active day. (not that high, but still..) I've heard this a well.

    Ice Tea

Are you on all liquids or full liquids? You should be fine, just watch your sugar. If you use artificial sweeteners you may want to use that instead of regular sugar.

Can I have an scramble egg

I was on liquids for a total of 34 days. I came up with a couple dozen different Protein shake flavors. In fact, at 15 months post I still have one every day. You can also add Protein powder to broths and dilute/pureed/strained cream Soups....chicken, beef, spinach, French onion, mushroom, potato leek, lobster bisque, butternut squash, Mexican tortilla, wonton, hot and sour, etc, etc. There's no need to get bored. I use Isopure unflavored. Like @@Kindle I dissolve it in a little bit of Water before adding it in.

    Am I doing ok?

Sounds like you are doing well. Why don't you think so?

It may be your electrolytes. Try some coconut water, Gatorade or a banana and see if that helps.

    Vitamins?

My doctor is fairly conservative and recommends the same vitamin/supplement regimen as bypass pts. I would start that and call your doctor's office in the morning for clarification.

    Carb Attack?

I log food. I watch but am not obsessive about my carbs. However my nutritionist recommended I keep calories low (currently between 700 -900) and carbs at no more than 50. I am vegetarian and my carbs can get a little higher. However they are from the plant based Proteins I eat. I avoid most "white" carbs like bread, pastas, white rice, crackers, etc.... One thing I have noticed is that those types of carbs can be like the never ending monster. If I have them I start to crave them. As long as I don't have them, I am fine. I also try to eat according to my day. A day like today that is a non gym mostly chill out day I eat lighter.
  12. Try to walk as much as possible. Raise your arms up as if you are lifting dumb bells. The movements will help push the gas out. Welcome to the loser's bench!

Can I have an scramble egg

What were your doctor/nutritionist instructions? They should have given you a specific timeline as to when to start adding back in foods. Yes the all liquid phase sucks, but remember it is only temporary. Do not advance until you have spoke with your nutritionist. I didn't have an egg until week 3. Those 2 weeks of all liquids were a challenge. I too thought I was going to go nuts! That first egg was the best thing I ever had.

    What vitamins do you take?

Doctor's vary on this. I as told chewable or crushed for all large pills for the first 3 months in part to make sure that they are properly absorbed while your new tummy is healing, but also to make sure you can get the, down. I was told no to gummies because they are not complete. Other programs are okay with gummies and allow pats to swallow all pills from day 1.

    Fever

Temperature can fluctuate plus or minus 1 - 2 points with no worries. It's when a temp hits 101 or higher and stays there that you should be concerned. I'm glad to see the nurse practitioner called you back.
  16. Are you getting in all your Protein and fluids? Are you exercising? Have you checked your measurements. You may still be losing inches even though the scale is not moving.
  17. So what will you do to break the cycle? When that urge hits and you go to grab something justifying why you are doing it, what will you do instead? For me that's the key to breaking bad habits. You've already identified the issue, now develop a game plan.

    Driving

The main concern is driving while under the influence of narcotics. If you are no longer taking pain meds I don't see anything wrong with it. I was cleared to drive at my 2 week f/u but that was because I specifically asked about it. I didn't use pain meds in the hospital or get my prescription filled upon discharge. If I had thought about it, I probably could have gotten cleared a lot sooner.

    So disappointed

If you do have that talk with the dietitian, make it count. Ask her to be specific. Don't allow her to overwhelm you with handouts without you understanding what she is telling you.

    Can fluids get stuck #5dayspostop

I still only eat ¼ to ½ cup of anything at a time except for Soup. That is 2 - 4 ounces.

I keep hearing good things about mapmyfitness. I may give it a try.
  22. Hey Matt! Welcome. As many other have said, walk that gas out and make sure to sip slowly. Congrats on the beginning of your journey.

    Hello!

I cannot say for sure if you will be approve or not. I didn't have diabetes pre-op, but I was pre-diabetic. 6 months later I am no longer pre-diabetic. I will say something you may hear over and over again. This is a tool, not a cure. It will help you lose and keep off weight, however long term success will depend on your changing your relationship and attitude about food. In your case that may be something you can work on in counseling. I hope you find the meeting with your doctor helpful. You might want to ask him about informational seminars as well.
  24. Then make a plan. This is why some people need food logging. You can write out for each day or even the week what you plan to eat. You can do food prep on Saturday or Sunday to make sure you have those items. At some point you have to hold yourself accountable. However if you feel your dietitian is being too vague, then speak up! Tell her your concerns and that you need more assistance. Develop some skils or list of things you can do instead of mindlless eating or emotional eating. If you need to print it out and stick it on the fridge at home. Remove any food in your house that is a slider or binge-y snack for you. Even though I try to eat a healthy, whole food, plant based meals, yes occasionally I do have cravings. I try to come up with alternatives. For example, I LOVE chocolate. Sometimes I will make myself a cup of hot chocolate. ( I make it from scratch with almond milk and cacao (chocolate) powder. To make it a bit better for me, I may add a bit of Protein powder. There are also days when I just have it. The different is, I wont keep it in the house. I allow myself to buy one mini reese's cup. or other piece of chocolate. I workout 5 - 6 days a week and I am always seeking out fun ways to stay active whether it's riding my bike or taking an African Dance class.
  25. You know that fairytale saying about how you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince? Protein powder/drinks are the same way. Glad to hear you found something that works for you.
