  1. You should follow the calorie recommendations of your bariatric program, no Curves. Their program is based on a regular stomach, and is not designed for bariatric patients. I would continue to eat as you have been until you see your nutritionist. As for your period extreme weight loss/gain can change your cycle, but since you have a family history of premature menopause that's another question best answered by professionals.

what type of scale do you use?

You could weigh yourself 3 times a day and get 3 different weights. +/- 5 lbs is entirely normal.
  3. The closer you get to goal, the harder the fat will try to stick. This might be a good time to call your nutritionist. You'll get varying responses here. Some will tell you to increase, calories, some will tell you to decrease calories. Others will tell you to up your water intake. I think it's subjective. call your nutritionist, review your food diary with her and get her suggestions.

what type of scale do you use?

You weight varies. I don't weigh myself at home at all.The scale isn't the most accurate way of monitoring your progress. I only weigh myself at the doctor or once a month, whichever comes first. If you must weigh yourself, I would recommend no more than once a week at the same time of day in the same place. Otherwise it will always be inconsistent.

    Very, very beginner

Each program is different. At the informational meeting they should provide you with an overview of how their program works. Things may vary depending on your insurance regulations, but the program will be able to provide you with that information. If you are able attend informational meetings of more than one program. I looked at 2 different surgeons before I choose my doctor.

    Side effects?

None of these are normal. I'm 6 months and feel perfectly normal. Call your doctor.

    1st appointment, 1st concern

Don't get in the habit of playing games. Many of us have done that before with diets and failed. Change the script and be honest about this. Continue on as normal. Voice your concerns with the behaviorist when you see her. Unless your weight fluctuates greatly most programs use your lowest weight to submit to insurance.

    Excess skin?

I wear compression garments. So far my thighs are jiggly but not bad. I'm just not overly concerned. I'll do as much weight lifting as I can to encourage it not to sag, but ultimately it's just something I'll deal with when I get there.

    Side effects?

No. You also don't mention how fair out you are. Finger numbness and veins in your feet typically do not have anything to do with WLS. Call your doctor.
  10. Exactly. It really depends on you starting weight. I was really heavy so I probably won't hit goal until 1½ years out. That's why you should never compare your progress to others. I'm down 80lbs, but I started at over 400.
  11. It's not unusual to go through a period of no appetite. Put yourself o a schedule to make sure you get in your protein. It's vital for your healing.

    Pee color and water intake

Perfectly normal. Once you start drinking again it will go clear again.
  13. Some doctors want their patients to do Clear liquids before introducing Protein. OP is doing the right thing by sticking to her doctor's list.
  14. Call your doctor. It may be nothing, but if you are concerned, your medical team will be able to help you.

    Calories

Call your nutritionist. Each program is different and the recommended calories varies as well. You should have been given a list of recommended things to eat/drink and an approximate amount of calories to consume.
  16. My guess would be acid. Especially since you get the sensation so soon after eating. The feeling can be similar to hunger. Are you on a PPI of any kind? You can ask your doctor to prescribe one or buy prilosec over the counter.
  17. if you doctor doesn't want you to start on protein until Friday, yeah, this is normal. However, it would be good to try and get some water in between all those Popsicles. We've all got plenty of fat reserves and the human body can go much longer without food than it can water. You need water so you don't get dehydrated. If water is too hard, try ice chips.

    Pureed diet HELP!

. My doctor cleared me For exercise. He told me To take it easy at first but did not give me any restrictions. I think I'm Going to double Check with him 2m and ask him what kind of exercise I should be doing at first. I was cleared for the gym at 2 weeks post-op & Water aerobics st 3 wks

    Everyone exercises?

@@une nouvelle vie - I have a conservative Doctor who wouldn't allow that. I asked to go home after day 1 and was told everyone stays for 2 days. I would have LOVED to have gone home and slept in my own bed that same day. @LisaPunkinHead - I tore my meniscus skiing years ago. I had to have a surgical repair and got arthritus as a result. Running is never going to be in the cards for me.
  20. You mentioned long flight home. Did you have surgery in Mexico? I'd say being tired on day 4 is perfectly normal for anyone who is post-op, period. Having to endure a long flight on top of that is even more reason to be tired. Get your fluids in and let your body rest.

    Protein

Keep trying different ways of getting in your Protein. Those protein goals take time to build up to so don't panic if you don't meet them right away. Keep trying protein drinks/powders until you find what you like. I tried at least 10 different ones as a trial run pre-op and I've probably gone through another 4 -5 post-op. A few I still have occasionally, but there are 2 I consistently use; Isopure unflavored and CVS whey protein vanilla flavor. I don't think I hit my protein goals until somewhere between weeks 1 and 2 post-op and that was just the basic goal of 60gms. I know hit between 80 - 100 everyday. Unflavored powder that can be mixed with Soups is a nice break from the sweet drinks. Mixing them with Water helps you meet you Fluid goals and lesson the super sweet taste. If you are allowed yogurt, 0% greek yogurt will also cut the sweet taste. Try mixing the Protein Powder with water and a bit of greek yogurt until it's a thinner drinkable consistency. The greek yogurt (I use FAGE 0%) adds a bit more protein and the slightly sour taste will cut some of the sweet of the protein powder.

    Everyone exercises?

@@une nouvelle vie - I probably count in the super obese category as well. However despite my size I had always been active. I knew from previous weight loss attempt that I only lose when I am both eating properly and exercising. I swear being a regular exerciser had a lot to do with how easy my hospital experience was.

    Venting About Poor Forum Etiquette

OMG Cursive fonts, and unreadable fancy fonts drive me up a wall! That's the one thing that makes me hit the back button as fast as I can.

    Feeling Stuck :/

Perfectly normal. It's only been 9 days. The weight will come off, just be patient.

    I want salad please!

What are the eating guidelines your program recommends? I've been eating salad since I was 6 weeks post op. Not a very large one. Usually maybe ½ cup of lettuce with a chopped up or sunny side up egg and 1 or 2 chopped up grape tomatoes. If you eat meat a bit of tuna/chicken salad or Protein of choice would be fine. I never had an issue with raw veg of any kind and it was the veg I miss. I now have them regularly using romaine, raw spinach, arugula or mixed baby greens. I will even have a lettuce wrap with butter lettuce and protein of choice.
