    Whey Protein Issue

The vegan Orgain only comes in vanilla or chocolate flavors. You can buy a soy Protein from Bob's Red Mill. When mixing unflavored powders with hot foods I find it best to mix the powder separate. I use a whisk to get it smooth and lump free. I then temper the mix by slowly adding a ½ tsp at a time of soup or whatever warm beverage I am making before mixing the whole thing together.Cooking to causes it to clump.
  3. I didn't buy bariatric vitamins/supplements. I just went to Walgreen and bought regular vitamins. I think they are by Nature's Bounty. The exception was my multi. For the first 2 months I bought KIND vitamins. They are all food and water soluble so when I crushed them I could mix them with almond butter, apple sauce or yogurt. Before committing to Isopure, try a few samples. I trued several from Whole Foods, some from CVS and a few from Vitamin shop. I believe there is a place online where you can purchase a sample pack. Try mixing them with skim milk, water and diluted juice to see if you tolerate it. I only bought a 2 week supply for post op because people said their taste buds changed. Once I knew I liked it, I then bought a full size. FYI - If you buy the Isopure, keep your receipt. If you do not like it you can return the unused portion.

    Bad knees, what will work

I do water aerobics. Not only has it helped my range of motion, my knees do not ache at all. As mentioned if you have access to a pool, swim, try water aerobics or even pool walk. Of course as the weight goes down there is less pressure on the knees, but the pool definitely helps.
  5. I had a very easy surgical experience. Other than getting full on much less food, Solid foods I get full on ¼ - ½ cup and Soup maybe 1 cup. I cannot feel a difference in my tummy. As for sports, I was back in the gym at 3 weeks post op and currently workout 5 - 6 days a week. Once you are healed there is no reason you cannot resume playing sport.

    Not losing anything? ?

The idea is the more highly processed something is like white bread, white rice, Pasta, the less benefit. Those are the ones that tend to make you hungrier. I also try to plan my carbs for the busiest part of the day. I work out primarily in the early morning and afternoon. The bulk of my carbs happen between Breakfast and lunch. My biggest meal of the day is lunch. My dinners are usually light. Most night's I have a salad or a cup of Soup. However I focus on protein because protein is what helps you heal and it's what helps you lose weight.
  7. on occasion & under doctor's supervision is fine. You just want to be careful because it can cause acid @ stomach ulcers.

Are you following a Paleo Diet?

I don't diet, per se. Clean eating is my lifestyle. Eating processed foods and chemicals makes me physically ill. When I cook from scratch I eat better.

    Not losing anything? ?

I have been gaining also! I have gained 3kg since last week and I dunno why as I am not going over 1,000kcals a day sometimes no where near but someone has said bout carbs to cut them back out and see what happensAren't you like 3 months post-op? That's a lot of calories unless you are working out really hard every day. I think I was eating between 400 - 600 calories a day at that point. Just remember the basics; Protein first, then veg, get your fluids in. Exercise.I'm 3 weeks post op Are you food logging? It's a good way to get a true idea of what you are eating. Many times we under automate. I'd say the egg & the mince are good, the Pasta & bread is not. Replacing those items with protein will keep you fuller longer

    Lasagna?

The soup would count, just strained if to make sure there are no bits still in it. If you have unflavored protein powder adding a bit to it would be good. If it's too thick, thin it out with broth

    Lasagna?

I haven't done it since surgery, but thinly slice veg like zucchini and eggplant work. I've made it before.

    Whey Protein Issue

I use Isopure unflavored. It's 100% pure whey isolate and nothing else. There are also soy isolates if you can't tolerate any whey at all. Orgain Organic makes a vegan shake, but it's only 16gm per serving however, that's more than the Slim fast shakes which clock in at 10gm. I personally liked the taste of Orgain, especially the chocolate. You could try Whole Foods for non whey Proteins. Vega is really popular among my vegetarian/vegan friends. I would recommend trying as many samples and brands as possible before surgery . Those first few weeks post op you will be dependent on them. Having more than one type to choose from will help with the boredom your palette may feel. I liked the unflavored Protein since I could mix that with Soup or broth and break up the constant sweet taste.

No worries. You know I always try to answer as honestly as I can.
  16. @@Julie norton - I tried Mederma and wasn't really pleased with it. Let me know which ones you use & if they work. Scarfade sells silicone strips but I've never tried them.

    Not losing anything? ?

I've read you say this before. I'm genuinely curious what your daily menu was typically that got you to this point. coffee in AM. dinner probably Pasta with sauce and veg, or a pizza. Too much bread/sandwiches on the go. WAAAY too much cheese. It really was 50% disordered eating and 50% health issues. Tumor plus early onset menopause to name just a few. Although I was a vegetarian for years, I cleaned up my diet about 4/5 years ago as my allergies progressively got worse. Joined a gym. 3mths after joining gym & quitting soda, swollen feet went down. I got sick less, but still got sick. I got facial shingles. I gained and lost the same 35 -50lbs over the course of 3 years.

    Not losing anything? ?

I used to only eat when I was hungry. I could literally go all day without eating. It got me morbidly obese because my body held onto every calorie. Now I eat 3 meals regularly and a snack if needed. So far I have never had a stall.

    Not losing anything? ?

It it's actually quite easy to get in 60+gm of Protein and 64 ounces of water. most of us to that and more. You do have to work up to it. I think it took me about 1 - 2 weeks. How? By combining the 2. I made me Protein drinks with water instead of milk and I used loads of ice. I also made sure to get in the bulk of my protein by lunch. This meant I had the time between lunch and dinner to drink water. Additionally it's fluids, not water. So if I had a Protein Drink for Breakfast I made it with protein powder/greek yogurt & water. That comes in at between 30-38 gms of protein and it's about 15 ounces of fluids. Lunch could be yogurt with a bit of Protein powder, again another 30gm protein. I wait and then start on water. I have several hours to just sip water. I always carry a water bottle around so that's not a big deal. By dinner I've already met the minimum protein requirement. My water bottle is 20 ounces. Typically I can drink 2 full bottle before dinner and still have time to spare . Add the 15 from the morning shake to the 40 in the water bottle and that gives you 55. Drink another half a bottle after dinner and you've more than hit your Fluid goal. But here's the other reason why it's important to hit that protein goal. Your body needs it. It needs it to help you stomach heal and it's part of the process to help you lose weight. Without it your body holds onto every calorie it can. Additionally it may start to leech protein from other areas like your nails & hair. Then you have to worry about hair loss. Like I said you don't reach those goals right away, but you should try to work up to it. I guarantee you it won't stretch your stomach.
  20. I did grits once with a little unflavored Protein powder and shredded cheese. Too many carbs for me. I also did oatmeal once or twice. They were a little better since I make my oatmeal from scratch. Here's some recommendations from my program.

It may be the 3 week stall, however this may not be a good idea. Your nutritionist should have given you some information on eating/drinking. You should be striving to reach the minimum Protein goals or 60 gm a day and 64 ounces of fluids. Initially you can't always trust your sleeve to tell you when you are hungry. Acid production sometimes feels very similar to hunger. Are you on a PPI such as prilosec or omeprazole? Failing to meet your protein goals can hinder your weight loss.

    What do you guys think?

I would encourage you to obtain a primary and get a complete workup physical. Between your weight and your comorbidities the only thing I imagine would happen is you would be required to undergo a medically supervised diet for a period of time. If you are interested in having the sleeve done, I would also get a list of doctor's from the insurance company and try to attend seminar and gather information about a few programs. This way you make sure the doctor you choose is one that works for you.
  23. I don't think OP's issue is the type of protein. She's having an extreme case of nausea and acid/GERD.
  24. Man that stinks. I would be interested to see what a study of easy breezy vs post -op from hell. It can't be age, because I'm no spring chicken. I really don't understand your doctor not wanting to prescribe a PPI. Mine put me on one prophylactically. Hopefully the new doctor can resolve you issue. There's another poster here who has worse acid than yours. She is considering a revision to RNY.
