    Monday: Food and Nutrition

Agreed it's like the old saying "failing to plan is planning to fail." It doesn't even have to be detailed. Usually my plan is if I need/want a snack I can have a small orange or an ounce of nuts. I have choices and I know they are there. Some days I don't have them, but when the mood hits, knowing they are there means I'm less likely to grab that snickers bar instead.

Are you following a Paleo Diet?

Agree being vegetarian I don't eat bacon, but I eat eggs, and use coconut oil frequently. I have my choletsral is always within range and my carbs can go high as long as it from green leafy veg/fruit and beans. Unless you are genetically disposed to high cholesterol coconut oil isn't a bad thing.

    Possible blood clot?

    Agreed better safe than sorry.

    Not losing anything? ?

I think you are doing fine. I probably could eat more calories, but since I have quite a ways to go, my nutritionist and I agreed to keep my calories low. I don't however eat diet food of any kind. The closest I get is 0%Greek yogurt. Otherwise, cream, butter, etc.... are all eaten in moderation. You work out also sounds pretty good. You are getting your heart rate up and it sounds like you are working out at least 30 minutes a day. Part of this is learning our bodies and how it responds to the changes in diet and exercise we are making. Once you figure that out, the weight loss will happen.

    Possible blood clot?

Call/Get to the doctor ASAP. Blood clots are not to be fooled with.
  6. Interesting. I recall facing similar obstacles when I coordinated a cleft lip & palette program. The insurance companies would routinely refuse coverage for rhinoplasty saying it was "cosmetic." I would then have to get the physician to write a more detailed note explaining why the procedure was medically necessary. I feel this same way about skin removal. Especially when it's a matter of skin folds and sagging skin that could harbor infections and rashes. I'd also argue the psycho-social aspect of sagging skin, but I understand that insurance companies aren't really that invested in that sort of reasoning. I am not there yet. I hope I won't have so much sagging skin that I need to consider skin removal surgery. I do know that both my primary and my orthopedic doctors have recommend documenting any issues I have with excess skin and should the need arise they will write letters in my behalf.
  7. I think it you go to the tops of the forums you are receiving emails from and click stop following you will no longer receive email from those forums unless someone @ replies you by name. Similarly if you go to the veteran forums you are interested in and click follow this topic you will receive notifications from them.

    Not losing anything? ?

It depends on the program. I walked for the first week, did some light aerobics week 2 and week 3 I was back in the pool doing aquafit classes. I had a really easy post op experience and my doctor didn't have a problem with me resuming normal activity as I felt up to it.

    Not losing anything? ?

@@jcannon685 - Just a recommendation. I find that I have to vary my workouts. Some days more aerobic like some days light (5 -15lbs) weight lifting. Some days in the morning, some days in the evenings, once a month I do a high intensity African Dance class which is 90 minutes of full body activity, sometimes I take my bike out for a ride and some days I stay in and do a quick 30 minute kettleball workout. This way my body doesn't get used to the same thing every day at the same time. Like I said talk it over with your dietitian and see what she recommends.

    Not losing anything? ?

@@jcannon685 - Patience. See the above post. It will happen. Step away from the scale. If you are up to it, speak with the dietitian about upping your walking to a more strenuous work out

    Well, I Went Swimsuit Shopping

Try Hydrochic.com They focus on modesty suits for those who want more coverage. They are very popular with those who want more coverage for religious reasons. I haven't been there in a while so their suit may actually have too much coverage for you, but it's an option.

How much Yogurt - post op?

@@proudgrammy - You are bad! I hate those shows with a passion!
  13. I am a vegetarian with multiple food allergies. A food allergy is not something that would warrant not having sleeve surgery. What you will need to do is review your food issues with the nutritionist in your bariatric program so that you can develop ways to meet your nutrition goals

Nervous - Does Anyone Else Feel This Way

@@JLMET - I never had that feeling. I believed in my doctor. He had done a friend of mine bypass surgery the year before so I knew he was good. i also knew that if I had the right tool I could do this. The first thing I noticed when I came home from the hospital was how small my feet were. My feet and ankle were the smallest they had been in years. That said. It will work as well as you work it. Follow your team's instructions, ask for clarification when you are sure and you'll be fine. The of hundreds of people posting here everyday who likely felt like you who are losing and have lost weight successfully. You can do this!

    3 week stall

@@Mgenovesejr -The 3 week stall is not uncommon. If you do a search on it, loads of post will come up. I think they tend to happen more frequently with the less you have to lose. I started at a pretty high BMI so I've never personally experienced one. However I also only weigh myself monthly or when I go to the doctor's, whichever comes first. Every time I have set foot on a scale I have seen a loss of some sort. It is entirely possible that because I only weigh monthly I may have experienced a stall and missed it.

    3 week stall

If you aren't sure you're hitting your protein goals, you may want to use a food diary at least temporarily. This way you can track your protein and make sure that isn't the issue. Then if you are still unsure, you could call and discuss the issue with your nutritionist. However it may just be your body adjusting. Try stepping away from the scale for a bit and take your measurements instead. You're early enough in the process that the weight loss will start again. This way you don't stress yourself over not seeing the numbers move on the scale.

How much Yogurt - post op?

¼ cup with half a scoop of protein powder added. My nutritionist instructed me to eat slowly, at least 30 minutes. I would time myself with a sitcom or tv show. If you're unsure call your nutritionist and double check.

    Calories

I've been taking a 9 am aqaufit class for the past 4 years. I know it's important to eat before a workout but I can't eat anything heavy and workout. I started making my own Protein drinks. It's enough to fuel my workouts and get me started.

    Bowel movement

I would definitely talk to the doctor before it becomes a problem. I was started on stool softener sin the hospital & had my first 3 days from discharge. I get all my fluids in & since I eat a plant based diet I get plenty of fiber. Thankfully I've been regular ever since. Don't wait until you are uncomfortable to address this.

    Calories

Like I said the only reason my nutritionist IV okay with my AM shakes is because that's always been my go to breakfast. Otherwise I get my protein from food. My biggest meal of the day tends to be lunch since I'm more active in before 3pm with the exception of my once a month African dance class and the 1 or 2 days of the week I take an evening workout

    Need advice

It might be beneficial to you to locate an informational seminar in your area and attend. Due to your neurological issues you would likely still need to have a consult with a bariatric surgeon but WLS would help you to lose weight with minimal exercise. It would just be a question as to whether or not your condition makes you a good candidate for surgery. As to the decision for bypass vs sleeve, currently the sleeve is so popular that for many it's just a matter of preference. For me I didn't want to reroute my internal organs and I was not thrilled at the idea of dumping syndrome. I also had not issues with heartburn or reflux prior to surgery so the sleeve was a better fit for me. I don't think one is better than the other. A good friend of mine had bypass. She is doing well and is very pleased with her results. She was even one of the lucky few to not have issues with loose skin.

Mushroom and Tofu Laksa With Noodles

Sounds interesting. I wonder would it work of I subbed the egg noodles.
  23. Really? It seems to me that everybody here had an opinion. In fact that's what I thought we were here for. As to my confusion with her statements it was because her initial post made it seem as if she was not getting her protein in at all. It was not questioning her program. However if you have a specific comment or question for me, please feel free to direct it to me and not "me too" on a discussion I had with another poster.
  24. My surgeon had me get an IVC filter. I have no history of DVT and had an ultrasound of both legs pre-op that were completely clear. It was nice not to have to worry about clots, take blood thinners or give myself injections post-op. I opted to have mine removed in January, but you can also opt to leave it in indefinitely.

    Too much food?

It's true for some liquids don;t fill them up However you are eating a lot of sliders foods. I would just approach foods like mashed potatoes and "white carbs" with caution. I have to admit, though no way could I eat 2 cups of any kind of soup even now and I am at 6mths.
