  1. You could call back and ask about weight management or weight loss surgery. Sadly sometimes you have to spell it out. If it is a covered service, they can't bill you for it. My insurance covered everything but the nutritionist class. That was $200. I also had a $400 copay for the surgery itself. Other than copays that was all I had to pay out of pocket. I have Keystone 65/Medicare. If you like the program that''s an hour away, you can save yourself the hassle and go with them. I'm in Philly. I know there are several hospitals in South Jersey that accept Medicaid, but that's probably even further away. ETA: Often the only non covered services are the psych eval and/or nutritionist.
  2. I get 70 - 80 gms of protein daily. I didn't have any issues until around month 6. (I'm 7 mths now). Currently it's just thinning at my temples, but I'd like to do what I can to prevent it from going beyond that. I understand it may happen regardless. Biotin pills and Jamaican Black Castor oil. Also decrease the frequency of your retwist. I only retwist every 4 - 6 weeks. Make sure you are getting in all your protein as well.I actually have some Jamaican Black Caster Oil. Started using it a few days ago. Not a good smell.Yeah the smell is not that great. I use it at night and sleep with a satin bonnet on. The smell is usually mostly gone by morning.Ladies, you can a a little of your favorite essential oil to the JBCO to help the smell. Like tea tree oil, lavender or orange. But they also make scented ones. I have the Lavender scented one. The lavender scent is very faint and the JBCO smell still comes through. I'm hit or miss with essential oils. Some break my face out and some irritate my sinuses.I'm okay with using the JBCO at night.

    Delayed surgery date rant

Yes there are people on here who have had to do CPAP before getting their surgery date. It's not uncommon at all. If it is indeed weight related, chances are you will no longer need it as you lose weight. Please try not to be frustrated. Your surgeon is doing a good thing. No one wants to run the risk that you stop breathing during surgery.

    Insurance trouble

That doesn't sound right or fair. If they had authorization then they should accept whatever that agree upon fee was. Something doesn't sound right. I would follow up with the insurance company.
  5. What part of Jersey North or South? I would find a doctor who take Medicaid instead. In Jersey there should be several. Check the major hospitals for their bariatric programs..

    Pre op grocery list

Try doing a search on pre-op diet. There are several threads with loads of good ideas and suggestions.
  7. They have to give you specifics. If the person you speak with isn't clear, ask for a supervisor.

    Struggles and stalls?!?!?

The stalls may happen, but if you stay the course you will continue to lose.

    Cardio/strength training

To keep moving as much as possible. I do aquafit 5 - 6 days a week. The instructors all focus on different areas and have different styles. Mon - Is a very vigorous aerobics style class. Lots of activities designed to get the heart rate up, with 30 second rest periods in between. Tues/Thurs is more strength training using light Water weight >15lbs. Wed/Fri is more high intensity aerobics and Saturday would best be described as aerobics/zomba. Sunday is my day off. I also add in bike riding 1 -2 times a week and kettleball at home on Tues/Thurs. I have arthritis in both knees so I can't do anything high impact.

    Belly Full

I don't eat meat, but from what I understand animal proteins are sometimes hard to digest initially. The meat needs to be really moist and you may have to eat it super slow.

    Double booked!?

Even state side it's possible. 2OR's next to each other. Surgery done by laparoscopic robot, residents to close. If there are no complications the surgery only take ~45 minutes. The rest is prep time and time spent in recovery.

1 week post op no weight loss?

You have to work up to it. I think it took me at least the first 2 weeks to hit that goal and I was always a big water drinker before surgery. Just aim to do better each day until you hit it.

    Belly Full

For some of us our bodies gives us cues. I burp. It's really loud and kinda embarrassing, like a bullfrog. However for some that cue or feeling of restriction doesn't kick in until you hit the soft foods stage. Until I recommend keeping portion to the ¼ - ½ cup size and then stop.
  14. Are you still taking something? My surgeon had me on a stool softener for the first 30 days post-op. I poo'd on my 3rd day home (5 days post-op) and have been regular every since. I would nip this in the bud now and call the doctor for a stool softener prescription.
  15. I don't have any answers, just wanted to say I'm sorry you're having such a tough time of it. On the other hand, the upper GI may help figure out why you are gagging. Hang in there!
  16. You might want to start by searching in your area for bariatric programs/surgeons. As mentioned each program has a different set of protocols. Most program hold informational seminars. These are a good place to learn about the programs requirements and occasionally meet the surgeon. If it's an option in your area, I recommend looking at at least 2 programs. You really want to find a program that suits your needs & personality. If they have support groups, attend 1 or 2. You can get good recommendations as to what surgeon is popular this way.

    Double booked!?

You might want to call just to ease your mind. It could be nothing more than a scheduling issue.
  18. It's not uncommon to feel that way. Especially if you had a challenging post op experience initially. Hopefully as the weight comes off that feeling changes for you.

1 week post op no weight loss?

It depends on the nutritionist . Mine says fluids so I count my 20 ounce protein smoothie and then aim for drinking 5 - 6 glasses of water throughout the day. The goal is to not get dehydrated & water helps with things like constipation.
  20. It is still early for you. Cravings can be in your head or you may need to be on a PPI such as omeprazole. PPI's help prevent acid in your tummy. Acid sometimes feels like hunger. As your doctor to prescribe one for you. Then make sure you are getting in all your Protein and drinking your Water. Be patient. The weight loss will happen. Do not diet, talk to your doctor or nutritionist.

    Learning how to eat slow

Try downloading the Eat Slower app.
  22. I don't think the type of WLS matters. OP is struggling with feeling as if she's "taking the easy way out". Hopefully by now it's pretty apparent that whether you are banded, sleeved, bypass or any variation of that WLS is NOT an easy way out. It take hard work and determination.

    Stress and Disappointed

I'm with @Cayonbaby - if the scale is a stresser, weighing yourself daily can be self sabotaging. I weigh once a month. I do pay attention to what I am eating. I don't try to eat as little as possible, rather I try to eat as sensibly as possible. I make sure that not only am I getting in my Protein, but also all my other nutrients. I also make sure I am exercising regularly. Oddly enough when I work out 5 - 6 days a week I eat better. I think mentally I don't want to undo my hard work at the gym by eating the wrong thing. I also look at not just calories and protein, I look at sodium and carbs. If I keep those numbers within a reasonable range, the weight loss happens. I also avoid simple carbs; white breads, pastas, rice, etc... I try to get the bulk of my protein in between Breakfast and lunch which are my busiest times of the day, which means my metabolism is burning at it's highest. I keep dinner light, usually Soup or a small salad. My calories avg between 650 - 850 an my protein between 70 -85 gms a day.
