Bathroom Issues?
BLERDgirl replied to Connie Fusco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's hard to tell. You bowel issues may be a result of cheating and may just be from being on mostly liquids. Follow your program. It is for your own good and may effect your overall progress. -
Can't drink protein shakes! Any other options?
BLERDgirl replied to aprilsleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you like yogurt? Greek yogurt is pretty high in protein. Have you talked to your nutritionist? She might have some suggestions. You can try pureeing beans or cooked meat and thinning them down with broth. Spinach is also a good protein veg, as well as a good source of iron, and it may help prevent constipation. Add that to your puree. -
I started as a Clinique gal. I still love some of their lipsticks. Unfortunately they aren't very brown girl friendly. I would buy the darkest shade and by the time it was time to rebuy the color was discontinued. I'm not a fan of Yonique. I don't care for how the lashes look and some of the reps can be a bit over aggressive. A big turn off for me. I find I get better results combining a Fiber rich and waterproof mascara. Lately I've been into a lot of indie brands like Sugarpill. I am also a die hard for good foundation. I've worn and still like MAC, MUFE and Revlon, but I am in love with Coverfx.

"You'd be much prettier if you lost weight"
BLERDgirl replied to tiffanymarie6997's topic in Rants & Raves
@@tiffanymarie6997 My response, "Don't take this the wrong way, but you're rude when you speak." My rule of thumb is if you have preface anything with a faux apology, you're getting ready to be an enormous jerk. -
People post here daily expressing disappointment that they haven't seen the big numbers they see other posting. 7 lbs is a good weight loss. You should be proud of that. As mentioned everyone loses at their own pace. The less you have to lose, the harder it may be. Follow your program, get in your protein and fluids. Exercise as much as you safely can. The weight loss will happen. I promise you. In the meantime, step away from the scale. Don't weigh yourself more than once a week. Even then do it at the same time of the day on the same day of the week. Take your measurements and look for other NSV. At 17 days post-op it's too early to tell how fast/slow your weight loss will be.

Age: 51 Sex: Female. Location: Philadelphia, PA Single, but proud owner of Stormie the cat who generously allows me to feed her and change her litter box in exchange for the occasional cuddle. Major nerd. Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, you name it. I'm a vegetarian with multiple food and medicine allergies. I can be a bit mouthy. I was the kid who the minute you told me I couldn't do something I had to go out and do it. That meant I was the fat kid who biked, skied, skateboarded, traveled the world, you name it. Being fat did not hold me back in the least. You could say I have a bit of a stubborn streak. I can take a licking and will get back up and keep fighting. I am also very much into fashion/makeup/clothes. I have a wonderful circle of friends as adventurous and crazy as I am. -
Your choices are continued deterioration of your health or the possibility of saggy skin. You pick your poisons. Chances are given your age, if you work out and tone as you lose, you may not have saggy skin. As for meds, there is the possibility that you may have to get on them at least temporarily. Please do not refuse them. Unchecked cholesterol and diabetes can be very bad. As you lose weight you may no longer need them, but if in the interim you do, then so be it. As for your self esteem, that's a separate issue. Being thinner is not a guarantee that those issues will disappear with the weight. Find a way to learn and love yourself, flaws and all. Seek counseling if necessary.

I just tried the new Coverfx color drops. I like it a lot. You can mix them with anything for as little or as much coverage as you want. You could mix one drop with your favorite moisturizer to get light coverage. Or you could try a cream to powder compact. MAC and Coverfx have them.

2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?
BLERDgirl replied to Slimsoon1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@MoJo119 & @Stephlynn1015 - have you spoken with your doctor about this? You should be progressing to at least purees. Also that stuck feeling sometimes comes with eating too fast. Are you eating super slow? Try waiting a full minute between bites. -
I think on fair, to medium skin tones it's pretty nice. On olive or darker skin tones and/or people with oily skin I find it oxidizes after a few hours and can look orange-y.

@@kimpossible67 - I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

How many of you continue the shakes in your diet after many months after surgery?
BLERDgirl replied to bellabill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think there is room for a bit of balance. I personally find the bars to carb heavy and only keep 1 or 2 in my car for emergencies. I make a morning shake because I work out most mornings and it's not good to work out on an empty stomach. Perhaps it's because of what I put in mine, typically, yogurt and some sort of fruit and/or veg like spinach, occasionally a bit of tumeric or flax powder, even oatmeal in addition to Protein powder. It's enough to keep me full but not so much that my stomach gets upset while working out. However the rest of the day and on non gym days I am eating real food and getting my protein and nutrients from real food. I discussed this with my nutritionists because there was the concern about drinking my calories. Because I am getting most of my protein from food and my shakes are a little more complex, she is okay with it. -
My doctor put me on omeprazole from day 1. He started me at 20 mgs a day. By month 3 I had to increase that to 40mgs per day. By month 5 I no longer needed it. I think if you didn't have a prior history of GERD it can go away on it's own but it's best to take it until then. You can buy it over the counter or ask your docotr for prescription strength if needed.

generic name omeprazole. they work on the acid that your stomach juices create. This acid can feel very minor and mimic hunger pains or mild and feel like heartburn to extreme cases where it burns painfully.

6-7months post op
BLERDgirl replied to Melissayw816's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe discus meal planning with her so you can figure out how to eat. I plan my meals and my snacks. This way I know I'm eating a balanced diet including fruit and veg. -
I really wish you had been on the PPI from day 1. I swear once you get the dosage right it makes all the difference in the world. At least half that hunger you are feeling is likely to have been acid. Anyway, don't beat yourself up over 1 day. Just don't let one off day turn into another.
-
Besides the bunny what did you eat today? For some people the restriction and sense of fullness doesn't occur until they are on solid foods. Do you log your food? I find it help me plan my day and I think in a way it's reassuring knowing I will eat good, solid food. Assuming you are on a PPI and you are feeling hunger not acid are you trying to eat 3 meals a day or several small ones? I go back and forth. Some day I can eat 3 meals and be satisfied, other days I need that afternoon snack. Either way, touch base with your team, express your concerns and see what suggestions they have for you. As for the social eating situations, it may be best to avoid those for now. It's a mental thing so just wait until you feel ready to handle it. Most importantly, you are not broken. This is just a small bump in the road.

BLERDgirl replied to theshrinkingdutchess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey, I missed your post. How are you doing? Are you on a PPI for acid? It sometimes masquerades as hunger. Just sip, sip, sip. Work up to getting all your protein in, it's important to your healing and overall health. Many like the Isopure protein waters. As others have mentioned, if you feel up to it, walk. Just listen to your body and rest when needed. -

NEW! Starting the process and am a little confused.
BLERDgirl replied to dandylion_23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be that easy. My process was 4mths from initial consult. I went to an informational seminar the end of April. Had my initial consult in May, surgery in September. Of course there was the various testing and I had monthly meetings with my surgical team, but it was fairly simple. Not all insurances require medically supervise diets. In the end the process for most of us is a combination of program requirements and insurance requirements. However if you know for sure you want the sleeve, I would specifically ask if insurance covers vertical gastrectomy. Some insurance cover bypass and lapband but not sleeve and I would hate to go through all that pre-op testing only to be told that at the end my option are those 2 only when my heart was set on the sleeve.
