How long will I be down and out?
Homecie replied to lovedXJesus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't take any pain meds when I got home, so I drove after 48 hours . I felt fine to run errands, get prescriptions, walk the dog . I ate protein drinks so not too much cooking, and if you have to precook some meals. It depends on our mind set. It you think you can you can. Take a nap, walk, drink your liquids and you will be fine. You will be fine watching a ball game, bring a stadium seat, and your protein drink and all is well. -
I use the Progresso light soups as a base and add lean browned hamburger, or ground chicken. You can add any other veggies to it and simmer until you like the texture of the veggies. It is cheap, you can get soups on sale anywhere and you can freeze what you don't eat. It loads up on the protein and it is not like you are cooking all day. I also use the clam chowder light and add another can of chopped clams , that adds to the protein content. Best of luck, meat is a bummer for me too.

When if ever are you allowed a cup of coffee?
Homecie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing I have cheated on was a cup of instant coffee with protein powder added at 7 weeks out. My Doc says never, so don't tell her. What about you? -
6 weeks out and everything I eat gives me ouchie pouch
Homecie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am now on pureed food. I can have some meats if they are moist and some veggies. My problem is everything that is not pureed hurts going in. Tuna moisten, boneless fish, chicken meat balls in a sauce, chopped spinach steamed etc. Is it because I stopped talking the omeprazole ( Prilosec) ? Eating too fast? The above foods are on my plan but no one had told my pouch that yet. -
How long if at all, are you to take Omeprazole ( Prilosec)
Homecie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am told I need to take mine for 5 months, how about you? -
With eggs, tuna salad and perhaps a yogurt dip, what do you use to dip? Is there a cracker or bread to purchase to use . I know thick bread is a no no. What about pita or those rye crackers that are really dry and crunchy? Suggestions would be appreciated.

I have now worked my way up to a vigorous walk everyday for about 35 min. The only thing I have to complain about is not having very good walking shoes. I am now 190 lbs and have been wearing Birkenstock's for far too many years and my foot has spread to a wide size at the toes. Does anyone have any recommendations for a shoe that I won't have to mortgage my home for?

6 weeks out and everything I eat gives me ouchie pouch
Homecie replied to Homecie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
to ready2B.: You know exactly how I feel; including the water. Thanks for the encouraging words and explanations. It is mostly meats and sometimes heavy veggies like spinach. I had my first restaurant outing tonight. Chicken soup . It was nice to order something on the menu that I can have. Towards the end though things got a little ouchie. Don't mind too much, it was worth it to go out. -
I was walking, and one of my old students drove by, flipped a u turn and came back by to speak to me. He said he didn't know if it was me because " You look hella skinny". Out of the mouths of babes as they say. The first person to notice ! Makes it all worth the hell of the first 3 weeks.

Iron supplement.. ????
Homecie replied to little_mrs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto to the above reply. Have been on iron for 10 days and have had stomach irritability and terrible constipation whether I take it with a meal or not. I guess I will have to learn to live with this one. Any other med goes down well and is tolerated. Anyone have any suggestions? -
I was helped with head hunger by drinking chicken broth, or Unjury chicken protein powder soup. Also, wait 45 min until you drink something after eating. That prolonged the feeling of feeling full for me. Brush your teeth, and take a walk too. I felt hungry for 4 weeks after surgery, but it does get better.
-
I felt that way for a month and i am 5 weeks out. I was always hungry too. Now it is so much better. It helps if you can get some Unjury chicken soup protein powder, it doesn't taste nasty and it will maybe help your cold symptoms. It will get better. It will. There are others out here following your progress and encouraging you forward, remember that. Water, some soup and sleep, you will feel well soon, have faith!

Well I ordered three different shoes on 6pm.com, thanks who gave me that site, and decided on the Ryka's. Second was Asics which I also purchased. They both gave me plenty of room in the front of the shoe and were true to the size. I wasn't impressed so much with Brooks. Maybe when these wear out I will go to an actual shoe store to be fit. Thanks everyone for their input.

How long does the actual food stay in the pouch?
Homecie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long does the food stay in the pouch after eating? Does it just slide through with gravity once inside, or stay a while and linger? I know no drink for 30 min after ingesting it so as it can absorb nutrients and digest. -
Have any of you have experienced restless leg syndrome or have it worsening since surgery. I really have a hard time falling asleep because of it after surgery. Any ideas? I understand it may be an iron deficiency?

A month out and GAINING?!?
Homecie replied to Luna222's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, 47 lb weight loss. Pat yourself on the back! Yes to all the above, but not mentioned is your bms. If you are constipated and have not had a movement, or near your period or anything else that changes in your day you may have a small stall. Remember as others have said on this forum. It is a marathon not a race. Be patient, and maybe weigh every other day or once a week and don't be a slave to the scale -
Almost 2 weeks post op and sooo hungry
Homecie replied to little_mrs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would suggest that you brush your teeth more often than usual, especially after eating, drink a flavored water like Chrystal light powder sugar free stuff, take a walk or do some other task that you enjoy and lose yourself in. I too feel hungry, and find that if I keep moving, get out of the house and walk, go to the mall and walk it helps. -
When were you able to have mushed up sardines in olive oil. I really don't like tuna. I am 3 weeks out, and I know it is a little too soon.

What does "dumping" really feel like? The flu?
Homecie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 weeks out and thankfully have not experienced "dumping". What does it really feel like? Is it like the flu, or food poisoning, indigestion? I am scared to death that my pouch will get the ouchies. What is the biggest thing to do to avoid it. Trembling in my bed as I type. -
3 days post op and it still doesn't feel real...
Homecie replied to ilana612's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was really uncomfortable for about a week, and then it gradually began to subside. You will too! Drink, walk and protein..... Rest in there too. Remember your bod was assaulted and needs the time to repair itself. Great wishes for a speedy recovery -
Thank you,Thank you all for your input. It has saved me time and money and disappointment in not looking at cheap lousy walking shoes. Happy exercise to all whatever it many be

I am just ahead of you NewJeffrey. I am 4 weeks out, and can only have soft foods, Water and Protein drinks. I had 6 months to adjust to the idea from start to finish, and I know now I really needed that. The key for me is to get up and move, drink water all day, and get the protein in. Walking really helps. I used the brush your teeth aid and ate sugar free cough drops with the eucalyptus flavor and that seemed to help too. Keep in touch all you Nov club members. -
I would not advise anyone to test this one yet. I tried and got a ouchie in the pouchie . It is not as flakey as tuna .

Please share you favorite protein shake
Homecie replied to little_mrs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will only use Piping Rock unflavored protein whey powder. Easy to mix, tolerates high temps and will mix into just about anything. It is also one of the cheaper ones. http://www.pipingrock.com/protein-supplements
