Protein Drinks/Shakes Recommendation??
HappyGirlNJ replied to gentlespirit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Amplify by Release, you can only but it at a select few GNC'S (Chocolate mixed with some peanut-butter) It tastes like a Reeses Cup!!! I hate shakes and I love this one. I tried the Isopure (YUCK YUCK YUCK, I'd rather drink mud with worms in it) Anyhow try it, it's the best. -
Hello all, earlier in the week I had written about being filled and not being able to get down liquid without it hurting. Now it's Wednesday and I have been a little more successful with getting it down, but not completly, I have been able to eat soft foods and soups and keep them down. But now I am confused, I made an appointment to get some of the fill out but since I have been eating should I re-think that decision? I still feel the need to burp and it's always a sour burp, so at night I am getting reflux. What do I do? I still feel the need to drink more liquids and that continues to be a problem, but food isn't. HELP!

Thanks for the advice, I am going to the doctor tomorrow and I am going to make him do a little unfill. You are so right about eating unhealthy, I have been eating mashed potatoes, cheese curls and keish! (How healthy is that) I really can't wait to dig into a salad and eat some grapes and not have to worry that it's going to come back up.

If it were me, I would wait until after my trip, I have been to the Islands many times and depending on where you are going, many are third world countries and do not have the medical facilities that we have. And the big question would be if something were to go wrong, is there a doctor on that island that is familiar with your surgery and the complications that can arise? Let this be your last hur-rah and party it up. Relax and enjoy yourself. I had surgery in August and felt pretty good in a week, but it took a good 4-6 weeks to feel normal again. I too had a vacation planned the last week in August to Disney, I did go, and I was fine, but I was still a little sore and tender. But whatever you decide, Good Luck and you are the one who knows best!!!

Hi everyone, it has been sometime since I have posted anything, but I do read your post every so often and really enjoy the advice you all give, now I need some with regard to my most recent fill. I had 3cc put in on Friday and I can really feel it. I was told to stick to Clear liquids thru the weekend, I tried, but the Isopure that I was told to drink was giving me the slimey's and Water even hurt to drink. So on Saturday I tried some crackers and a few cheese curls as I felt I need something and they kinda melt in your mouth and all was good. Then on Sunday I ate some cottage cheese and that was BAD. I got the slimes and then blah threw-it-up!!! Felt much better after that, but I never want to do that again. Later I had some mashed potatoes and a small piece of Keish for dinner all was good with that. So today I started off with my Amplify shake and did fine with that. I can still feel everything stop in my chest and it eventually goes down. Is this suppose to be the way it is? or do I need to be unfilled a little? I had the other half of Keish for lunch and some plain Ravoli for dinner, but my problem is with drinking liquids, I feel the need to gulp, but I cannot, Is this how it is suppose to feel and am I suppose to teach myself this new way of just sipping here and there? (I feel really thursty) I am so scared to eat for fear it will get stuck, so I have been sticking with these safe things that are not such good things to be eating and I am feeling guilty, I really want a salad or an omlette, but I am afraid. What to do? Sorry this post is all over the place, I am just confused!!! Banded 8/4/05 53 pounds lost so far

I forgot to add something else to my prior post, so this is a seperate one. (not related to the other anyway) OK here goes, I read on this site to pre-medicate prior to dental work, my doc never told me that, but thank god for you guys. So last doctor visit I mentioned it to the doc and he said oh yeah let me give you something, so he writes the scrip and I go get it filled today. I thought he would give me liquid, but no he gives me a pill and says to just crush it. So I get to work and I look at the pills, I bought a pill crusher and they are not pills, they are capsules and if you read the paper the pharmacy gives you, it says not to break-them but I broke them anyway as this is what my doctor told me. I mushed up some banana and put it all in and oh my god!!! the awful taste, I almost died. There was no way to eat that, So I decided to make a shake and throw it all in that and again try to drink it and YUCK just as bad, so I throw it away and call the dentist to cancel for now until I can get in touch with my family doc. to get me a liquid. What was my surgeon thinking when he wrote that RX? Has anyone else had this experience and what did you do? I am alergic to penacillan and e-mician, so choices are limited. I really felt like a crazy person today at work with breaking these pills and mixing things up, my co-workers were rolling on the floor laughing at me, they said I looked like a druggie at my desk! Then I get home and tell my mom what happen and she said that some pills cannot be broken and you could die from consuming the insides as they are time-released. Made me feel great, however maybe the man above was watching over me, as I was not suppose to break them and consume! banded 8/4/2005 53 pounds lost so far!

I was banded in August and every once in awhile I have some pain there. I asked the doctor the other day if it was normal and he said yes. It's attached to a muscle and when you do certain things, it can be just the way you slept, you may have some pain, but it will go away and then come back again, but he says it's normal. So I am going with that. Good Luck

So sorry to hear about your band loss, but you have gained much much more with those beautiful children. And you said it, you now know how to eat!!! You can do it. Get back to that Gym and do everything you can to keep that weight off. Think of how good you felt when you were thin and the energy you had. Your children need that energy from their mommy, do it for them now. Good Luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Try the Sugar-Free Popicle brand choc. pops, you can't tell the difference. -
OK so for the past few days on and off, I have had a pain in my left side. Any ideas? It's not horriable, but at times it feels like I am being stabbed. Could it just be gas? Didn't have any of this until I had my fill last week. Your words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Hello all, I have not been on hear for some time now, as I have been busy, but it feels good to be back and read what's been going on. So I had a fill last week and was told Clear liquids until Monday. (NO WAY) I was so hungry that night, I had to eat. And I have been eating regular foods ever since. (WHY?) I also got my period the next day, does this have anything to do with it? I feel really bad that I didn't do the clear liquids, but I just could not do it, I had no energy what so ever. I even tried to do it the next day and I had to eat something, I feel really guilty!!!!!! Anyone else experience being hungry after a fill? Also I felt the doctor had a little trouble getting the needle into my port to inject the saline, is this normal? He didn't say anything, but maybe it was just me being nervous since it was the first fill. Down 36 pounds since August 4, 2005

Yes clear liquids until Monday, Full on Tuesday, Mushy on Wednesday and Thursday and Regular on Friday. But considering I am already on regular, I guess I am OK. I did take it easy the first two days, I had things like cottage cheese and mashed potatoes, today I had a grilled cheese sandwich and two bites of my husbands chicken cheese steak (YUCK) it didn't feel too good either. I will still try to take it easy until the end of the week, and then I will get back to my salads and such. Thanks for the info.

I too have not had a soda and I can't believe it. I always had one for breakfast and one after lunch and probably one at dinner, but I have not even thought about it, until I read this post. Keep it up!!!

Good for you, it always feels so good when someone notices. One of my male co-workers the other day said that I looked like I lost weight and I was so happy that he noticed. I only lost 24 pounds, but he noticed!!! Yeah!!! Keep up your good work!!!

Hello all, I have a few questions and need some advice. I was baned on the 5th of August and I had a question about ice cream. I took my kids to friendly's the other day and I wanted to have ice cream too. I ordered sugar free vanilla with sugar free hot fudge, was this a better choice, or should I have gone with something fat free? Someone told me that sugar free is not always better as it means more fat. Now I am upset with my decision and feeling guilty that I ate it. Pre-band I would have eaten a big sundae filled with peanut butter and hot fudge and of course not sugar free. I guess I am feeling a little guilty because in the first week I lost 21 pounds, but at almost 3 weeks, I only lost 3 more. I am an everyday scale weigher too!!! This weekend I have added back in bread and I feel guilty about that. I am starting to feel guilty about everything I eat anymore. I have been keeping my calories between 900 and 1200, which is what I was told, and for the most part no sugar. (with the exception of some foods that have it in it) Now I am getting ready to go on vacation and I am getting nervous about that, thinking OMG what am I going to eat, I have the feelings of not wanting to deprive myself from something good, but also I don't want to blow what I have accomplished in the last 3 weeks. (HELP) SO when did everyone start eating salad and shrimp after surgery? I wanted to have some shrimp this weekend, but I was scared to try it. I even ate a 1/2 of meatball and that made me feel guilty. I'm trying to stick with the things that are good for me, but then after I eat it, I question was that good for me? Can one eat too much cottage cheese? So many questions, sorry!!!! Please help!!!!

Thanks guys for all of your support, I could not wait to get to my computer tonite and see the words of wisdom you all have. I feel much better and I am going to step away from the scale for now. (Atleast try) For sure while I am on vacation. I don't think those Disney Hotels have such a thing!!! (Lets hope) But again thank you very much!!! I am feeling much better!!!

I have trouble wearing a tight bra, I don't wear underwire, but even just a tight bra is uncomfortable for me right now, I am only 3 weeks out, but when I tried on my regular bra the other day, I felt sore, so I have been sticking to the stretchable bras (Sports bra type) and they have worked out fine. Actually for a few days after the surgery I wore nothing, but I was home and could do that. Good Luck Walmart is a good place to buy those stretchable bras.

I can't wait to go to Old Navy to buy clothes, I have never been able to do that but for my kids.

Good Luck and Welcome to your new you!!!!

I am starting to plan my vacation while at Disney and making the reservations at the restaurants and so on. I am concerned with what I should eat. My surgery was August 4 and right now I am still on pureed foods, Monday I start minced and then next weekend regular. Will I be able to eat salads and such? I have been craving a salad with some chicken on it and black olives. Do I need to concern myself with this, or will I be OK to basically eat anything that would be considered a healthy choice. Maybe a tuna sandwich or a hamburger?

Centrum also makes chewable vitamins. What we should all do is write to the Tylenol people and tell them to make an adult strength chewable. They have liquid, but I can just about get that down without throwing it back up (YUCK)

Is There Something Wrong Here????
HappyGirlNJ replied to sandj21598@yaho's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This weekend I felt I need something more substantial. All I was on for the most part were liquids and I had 2 saltine crackers, it helped take those hunger pains away. And believe me two worked, I didn't need anymore than that. Also stay away from sugar as the sugar makes you crave the carbs. Also sugar-free popsicles are a life-saver for the sweet-tooth. Good Luck you'll be fine!!!! -
Good Luck to you!!! It will all be worth it in the end!!!!

Hello all, I had my 1 week post-op visit today and I am down 21 pounds (Yeah) I really don't feel it yet, I guess because I am still swollen, but hopefully by next week I will. Of course I forgot to ask my doctor a question today, so I will ask you guys. Where exactly is the port? Is it in the largest incesion? and is it suppose to feel like a lump? Your responses are appreciated? Thanks

I start solids next weekend, so I guess I should try salads and such before I go to make sure I don't have a problem. I don't want to be sitting at the table eating and then suddenly have it come back up. I think my doctors office scared me about foods, they said you cannot eat nuts or swallow pills or popcorn. I love popcorn, I don't know how I will do without that. But I know that thin will feel so much better. so maybe being a little scared is good
