    Juarez or Tijuana?

@@Aliyah14 Our surgeries won't be very far apart then. Mine is scheduled for Friday, March 20th with Dr. Rodriguez. I hope you get the day you want. Best wishes!

    Juarez or Tijuana?

Have you confirmed with BeLiteWeight that Dr. Rodriguez still does surgeries in Tijuana? My rep told me about a month ago that he was no longer operating at Hospital Angeles and my only choice (if I wanted Dr. Rodriguez as my surgeon) was to go to Juarez. I haven't spoken to her in a few weeks - I'm wondering if Tijuana is an option again?
  3. I received an email with this article today. It discusses three long term studies of the MGB in France. http://www.bariatricnews.net/?utm_source=Bariatric+News&utm_campaign=0495caff80-BN+Gen+24%2F02%2F14&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_99b9868979-0495caff80-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D&ct=t%28BN+Gen+24%2F02%2F14%29
  4. I had a call from my rep with BeLiteWeight this afternoon. She said that they received notice this morning that Hospital Angeles in Tijuana will be closing. Has anyone else heard this? She said that the hospital was raising their rates drastically, even for those already on the schedule, and so BLW was rescheduling all of the patients they had booked there. I'm disappointed because this hospital is where I felt most comfortable having my surgery done in March. Now I will have to choose another?
  5. That's so good to hear. Thank you.
  6. Did anyone have reflux problems before their MGB? If so, did the MGB have any effect on it or has it stayed pretty much the same?
  7. @@OCSlim How are you feeling? I'm sorry, I just realized I never thanked you for answering all my questions. THANK YOU! I appreciate all the good information. Yes, I'm going through BLW as well. I met another lady who's going to be there having surgery with Dr. Rodriguez the same day I am, so I'm excited about that.
  8. @vsgSarah3 I've decided to go to Juarez as well. We'll be there at the same time!! I'll send you a message soon and introduce myself, if that's ok?

    Plain yogurt = *gag*... Help!

The only way I can eat plain greek yogurt is by adding canned plain pineapple (diced, crushed, etc.) with a little bit of splenda. The pineapple really supresses the flavor of the yogurt. Then, when I want I add blueberries, strawberries, etc. I actually enjoy greek yogurt this way!

    Where to shop?

Do you have a Belks? Their regular prices are ok but clearance prices can't be beat. And they have really cute clothes.
  11. Congratulations, that's terrific! Thank you for sharing your progress. I'm schedule for an MGB in March, starting to get a little nervous, and stories like yours remind me why I'm doing this.
  12. You look amazing! I may have missed it, but how many of your meds are you still having to take? That's a big draw to this surgery for me, getting off so many darned pills. My surgery is scheduled for March in Mexico. I'm so excited, I can't wait!

    MORE forums for MGB?

Great question! I'm having Mini Gastric Bypass in Mexico in March. I would be very interested in talking with others who have had the procedure or who are planning to have it.

    Cooking for one

I love this thread! I could've written every word of the original post, except I've never heard of the Sous Vide. I'm going to look into that. Thank you all for sharing all these great ideas.
  15. Yesterday, I started a thread saying that I had been told by my rep at BeLiteWeight that Hospital Angeles in Tijuana was closing and asking if anyone else had heard this. The hospital is NOT closing. It was a big misunderstanding on my part. I spoke to the rep again this afternoon and she clarified our previous conversation. I misunderstood something she said to me. She did not say that the hospital would be closing. I am deeply sorry for the mess I've caused. Please accept my apologies for the confusion and inconvenience I may have caused.
  16. I'm going to start a new thread to make sure everyone sees that this was all a big mistake on my part.
  17. I apologize. I spoke with my rep from BeLiteWeight this afternoon about my concerns, and it seems that there was a misunderstanding - on MY part. The hospital did not tell them that they would be closing. What was said was that after being informed of the increased costs, there was speculation that closing the hospital might be the next step. I'm terribly embarrassed about of all of this but I want to make sure I set the record straight. Again, my apologies for any confusion or inconvenience my misunderstanding has caused.
  18. Thank you for contacting me. It's so good to talk with someone who's already had the procedure. Do you still absorb fats? I've heard that a benefit of the RNY is that the body doesn't absorb nearly as many fats. Since you don't have the malabsorption issues, I wonder how that translates to fat absorption levels? What was your recovery like? And your return to work time?
  19. Great point about the discount. I already checked, and the hospital stay in Juarez would be the same number of days that it was going to be in Tijuana. Thank you!!
  20. @Brians147 Wow, you look TERRIFIC! And very, very happy. Congratulations on your success! I'm so glad that your tumor was benign! I'm planning to have the Mini Gastric Bypass as well. It is wonderful to hear from someone who's had the procedure. Did your surgeon say why he opted to do the MGB over an RNY gastric bypass? I'm always curious to hear what made someone select the MGB since it isn't as widely known.
  21. I need to add that Dr Rodriguez did offer a discount to affected patients to help compensate them for the inconvenience. I felt that was pretty fair of him to do.
  22. You know Rocky1, I don't think I've ever disagreed with anything you've posted. I'm glad to see you have a positive opinion of the Juarez hospitals. I would prefer Tijuana over Juarez, of course, but it may have to be Juarez for me. I contacted both doctors late this afternoon to check into the two possibilities you suggested. Hopefully something will work out. It has to. I'm willing to be flexible on the hospital because I agree with what you said, but I will have my surgery done by either Dr. R or Dr. C.
  23. I spoke with someone at Hospital Angeles after I posted this. She said that the hospital was not closing, but that "the cost for weight loss is increasing fairly significantly." This applies to Dr. Corvala as well, according to the lady I spoke with. Although apparently Dr. Corvala's patients that are already on his schedule will not be charged the hospital's new rates. Unfortunately, for those of us who had decided on Dr. Rodriguez and Hospital Angeles, the hospital plans to charge the higher rates to his patients that are already on the hospital's schedule. (For those who don't know, Dr. Rodriguez has his main practice in Juarez and works out of Tijuana one week per month.) At least this is the story I've pieced together from what I've been told. I feel like I should be upset with someone, but who? Did BLW tell me the truth when they said the hospital was closing, or was it the lady with Hospital Angeles? Or was the hospital's closing all just an honest misunderstanding by someone? Is it fair of Hospital Angeles to increase the rates that Dr. Rodriguez was to be charged for patients already on the schedule? Is it admirable that Dr. Rodriguez rescheduled dozens of surgeries so that he wasn't "passing the cost on to his patients"? Or is it not admirable that he didn't absorb the additional cost on those cases, since his patients had already paid deposits based on the contracted price we had with him, and thereby prevent the inconvenience of all these patients having to reschedule hotels, airline reservations, etc? I'm frustrated, confused, and tired of trying to make the "right" decisions. Thanks for letting me vent.
  24. I haven't had my gastric bypass surgery yet but I'm trying to research and get everything I'll need ahead of time. I think I have most everything except Vitamins and I can't decide which ones to get. I'm considering these capsules because I've never been fond of chewable anything. I would appreciate your thoughts - what's your opinion of these vitamins? (I do realize I'll need Calcium citrate in addition to these vitamins.) Will I be able to absorb sufficiently from capsule form? Will these satisfy my basic nutritional requirements? They're the same price as the Celebrate chewables, and I really think I would prefer these over the chewables. CELEBRATE BARIATRIC Multivitamin CAPSULES Developed specifically for surgical weight loss patients, Celebrate bariatric multivitamin provides the most thorough blend of vitamins and minerals available. Our integrated formula provides maximum bioavailability as we have carefully selected each Vitamin and mineral level and form to enhance interaction and absorption. 25. I'm planning to have the Mini Gastric Bypass in March in either Tijuana or Juarez. I'm now researching, looking for the best surgeon to perform my procedure. I like what I've seen and read about Dr. Jose Rodriguez (BeLiteWeight is his US coordinator). He works out of a full service hospital (Hospital Angeles in Tijuana and Star Medica in Juarez). Patients spend their entire stay in the hospital, not in a hotel. He's a US Certified Bariatric Surgeon and has studied in the US and Europe. He has a long list of other credentials on the BLW website, and they seem to be excellent. I'd love to hear any input on either Dr. Rodriguez or BeLiteWeight (good or bad). Has anyone dealt with BeLiteWeight or had Dr. Rodriguez do their surgery? What was your experience like? Another strong candidate is Dr. Juan Corvala with Hospital Angeles in Tijuana. I'm still in the researching surgeons phase so I'm open to suggestions. Can you recommend any other bariatric surgeons in Tijuana or Juarez?
