How soon after surgery were you permitted to swim?
peaceout replied to higher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was allowed to swim once the glue/adhesive was completely gone from my incisions. I want to say that took 2-3 weeks. Edited- can't spell today! -
Good luck tomorrow!

A blender or Blender Bottle will help with the lumps. I also like to add ice to make them frothy. I usually add more Water than is recommended, too. Depending on what stage you're in, that may not be the best option, but if I water down the fruity flavors enough, it tastes like drinking crystal light or something. All that said, keep trying different flavors. I didn't like the grape either, but the Fruit Punch and Fuzzy Navel ones are two of my all-time favorites!

High bmi with no co-morbidities insurance approval?
peaceout replied to leliwhoaoh's topic in Insurance & Financing
I had the same fears, even though my surgeon's office kept assuring me that we didn't have to go looking for any co-morbidities if my BMI was over 40. The one thing I will say, is be careful during the 6-month program and the 1-2 week pre-op diet. My surgeon did warn me that if my BMI dropped below 40 on the morning of surgery, technically my approval could be reversed. I have no idea how true that is, but I can't imagine he'd go out of his way to shorten my liver-shrinking diet just to make sure I stayed above 40 if it wasn't a real concern he had. -

EEEEKKKK Surgery Date 06/20!
peaceout replied to lmwilla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay! Congrats! I'll be having my 1-year anniversary June 26th. You're in for one heck of a ride -
I had to chime in because I'm so excited! I started as a 20W; surgery day I was 18W. When I went shopping this weekend, I bought a size 8! Most of my things are 10, and the 8's are still a little tight, but *happy dance*! I'm buying single digits! It's unreal.

162.5 *Sigh* Happy Monday everyone!

That's very case-dependent. Some surgeons do outpatient procedures. Every handout I was given by my surgeon said his typical sleeve patient will stay 2 nights in the hospital- they let me go after 1 because I was walking a lot, could keep down my Protein drink, and wasn't hitting the pain button too often. The general trend seems to be 1-2 nights if no complications arise.

162.5 again. Oh well, at least it's not going up!

162.5... again! I'm so stuck! Oh well. Maybe next week the scale will move.

Congrats! What a huge accomplishment. It was your "guide to running" post a couple weeks back that finally pushed me to start the Couch to 5k program. You're an inspiration!

Should I give away all of my clothes that are too big?
peaceout replied to iwillbeachitagain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like @@Inner Surfer Girl said, I kept one pair of pants and one shirt from my highest weight, just as a reminder of where the journey started. But everything else had to go! I know some people keep their old wardrobe, or get some things altered to fit their changing sizes, but it was pretty therapeutic for me to get rid of those things. Now between clothing exchanges and thrift/consignment shops, I've gotten a whole "new" wardrobe and it hasn't cost me more than $100. -
4 months of weight watchers already....
peaceout replied to cookiefierce's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
My Weight Watchers documentation did not count because my insurance plan clearly stated it had to be a "physician-supervised" weight-loss program. Like others have said, even some surgeons want you on their programs for a certain number of weeks/months, independent of what your insurance company may or may not require. Good luck with everything, and don't be discouraged if you've got to go through the full 6 months- use that time to learn as much as you can and change as many of your habits as you can (I had a really hard time getting the hang of the no drinking while eating rule) during that time. It seems like forever, but it will fly by! -
164.5 today. Goal 159.0
