  1. I had my sleeve surgery done 12/15/2014. I have pretty bad emetophobia (fear of nausea and vomiting) and have prided myself on the fact that I did not get sick after the surgery. No problems with the pain meds, never got sick from eating too fast or too much. About two weeks post-surgery I was diagnosed with GERD (yay!) and my surgeon had me take OTC Prilosec twice a day. This was effectively handling my acid problems. I developed gall stones and had my gallbladder out on 2/17/2015. Again, no issues with nausea or vomiting. A week after the surgery I went to Disneyland and rode roller coasters with ease and two days later flew across country to visit family. Piece of cake. About two weeks ago the acid reflux started coming back. I tried Tums and they did nothing. I had an appointment with my regular doctor a little over a week ago and she gave me a prescription for Protonix. It worked great right away, but a few days in I started feeling nausea and vomited. This has been going on for a week now. I went off the Protonix per my Dr last Tuesday. I don't vomit after everything I eat (toast and pretzels have proven to be safe) but I feel nausea every time I eat. Drinking Water hasn't been a problem. This morning, with nothing on my stomach, brushing my teeth got my gag reflex going and I vomited stomach acid. My regular Dr said she could give me a Rx for Zofran but that nausea and vomiting are normal with this surgery. But is it normal for it to pop up suddenly almost four months later when you'd been fine before? I haven't called my surgeon yet but will do so shortly for his opinion.
  2. I just want to say that I really appreciated this post. My husband accepted a new job in June of this year that moved us from North Carolina to California in August. We were already engaged, but we moved our wedding up several months since I would be quitting my full time job for the move and insurance is a necessity. In the matter of six days I quit my job, sold my car, got married, and moved across the country leaving all of my family and friends behind. I had never been further west than Ohio before in my life. I had already been planning my WLS journey before this, but it's been very hard on top of the homesickness. My husband is very supportive as are my family and friends from home, but I'm still less than two weeks out, this was my first Christmas away from my family and some days I'd really rather be drinking that Protein shake with my mom in my parents' bed while the two of us watch HGTV. So, yeah, another long (and somewhat off topic) post, but this made me feel a lot better. Thank you.

    My father-in-law is oblivious.

LOL! We've never even heard of them before. My husband started eating what will eventually be my diet once I'm on regular foods back when I went on my pre-op liquid diet but maaaybe we'll have to grab two pieces...one for him to try and one to save for me until I can have solids again. I looked at their website and their stuff does look out of control. I've always been more prone to indulge in salty and savory foods than sweet, but I'm not immune...especially to almond Cookies. Let me tell you, this whole lifestyle change has opened me up to a level of self-control I didn't know I had. On my first two days of my pre-op diet I was allowed a solid lunch and dinner (day one) and then a solid dinner (day two) before I went to nothing but liquids on day three. My parents were visiting us from North Carolina for the first time since we moved across country and on my Day Two we took them to See's Candies since they'd never had it. I really had no intention of getting anything, turned down the free sample at the door and everything. Then I saw that they had a cranberry orange truffle that was seasonal only. I love the cranberry orange flavor combination and since it was seasonal and would probably be gone by the time I could have solids again I decided to allow myself one since I was still allowed dinner that night and we were between lunch and dinner at the time. I ate half of it. Half a truffle. Nobody wanted the rest of it so I threw it away. I impressed my damn self right there.

I really do think it's more funny than anything because of the just perfect timing as I'm still on full liquids. Couldn't even try one cookie if I wanted to. I don't think my family has ever put a gift in it's original box (especially for shipping purposes). It's kind of an ongoing joke now. So I didn't think twice to open it and when I saw that it was a big tin of pastries I just kind of dropped my head and started laughing. But then I stopped because it still hurts to laugh. And my FIL is not a bad guy at all, by the way, I just don't think he thinks about stuff sometimes. My husband and I moved from North Carolina to California in August of this year and twice now he's called us at 5 am our time because he forgot about the time difference.

I apologize. I just hate to waste a well meaning gift that somebody else may genuinely enjoy. I guess our assumption was that since the office has residents, possible future residents, maintenance, etc. in and out every day and already sets out treats such as candy and donuts that this might be welcome there. I'll think twice about it in the future.

    My father-in-law is oblivious.

Just received a package from my father-in-law for Christmas. The outside of the box said Termini Bros. on it but my family is notorious for reusing boxes and I didn't know what Termini Bros. was anyway so I went ahead and opened it. Turns out, Termini Bros. is a pastry company out of Philadelphia, PA where my FIL lives and he sent us a big ol' tin of something sweet and, I'm sure, delicious. I just had my sleeve surgery a week ago today. Now, granted, I haven't spoken directly to my FIL about the surgery, but I did make an announcement about in on Facebook (I'm being wide open with this, I don't care who knows) and we are friends on Facebook and I'm almost positive my husband spoke to him about it as well. Beyond that, my husband is also large and has Type 2 Diabetes. He also has Atrial Fibrillation and during a previous episode where he was in the hospital because he was in AFib for over 24 hours and wasn't able to convert back to normal rhythm on his own, his dad called and I answered the phone and the first words out of the man's mouth were, "He needs to lose weight," not, "How is he?" Honestly, I'm not mad at the guy, I think it's more funny than anything. He's just in his own little world sometimes. My husband said he'll give the tin to the women in our apartment complex leasing office.

    Advice?

If there are any specific restaurants in the parks that you are planning to eat at, especially table service (sit down, not fast food type), let them know about your restrictions when you're seated. Disney is extremely accommodating to special diets and the majority of the time the chef will come out to speak with you about your requirements and then cook you a personalized meal. (I used to work at Disney's Hollywood Studios.) Also, allears.net has comprehensive menus for all of the restaurants in Disney.

    So much pain.

No, no compression belt. Getting up has gotten a little easier since I first posted, I'm also walking more upright now (it felt like it was pulling too much to do so before). Now I'm dealing with coughing. Moved recently and my allergies kicked into overdrive with all the new pollens, etc. and I missed three doses of my Allegra at the hospital. Coughing up phlegm is pretty excruciating. I'll look into a compression belt because using a pillow doesn't help at all. The gas pains are there, but they're a walk in the park compared to the muscle/incision pain even with Lortab every four hours.

    So much pain.

Just had my surgery at 10 am pst yesterday. Was discharged today and just got home. They have me on Lortab but it doesn't seem to be helping much. Honestly, when I'm sitting or laying down I'm pretty much fine but the second I start to move in any way that engages my abs the pain jumps immensely. I don't think I've ever been in this much pain. How long did it take for you guys to start feeling better?
