Anyone else having a hard time getting pain meds?
Gumpgal posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon wrote me a script for liquid pain meds to have filled prior to surgery. My surgery is next Tuesday and I can't find a pharmacy that carries the medicine?! -
Yes! And it was horrific. My Dr prescribed a muscle relaxer to help with that pain. Apparently it's the muscles spamming at the suture sites.

That's Awesome Karl! I am glad to hear your doing well.

3 week post Op Question
Gumpgal replied to Gumpgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Saw my Dr. He confirmed its just muscle spasms. He said because I had such a weak core to begin with ( just a nice way of saying I was out of shape) my back is now compensating for the lack of stomach muscles. He prescribed Felxerall (sp) and told me to go get a massage. -
Hey Guys! I am 3 weeks out today and for the most part have been doing well, however I have been experiencing sever back and side pain ( soreness) on my left side. It has mad sleeping almost impossible which is turning me into a mess. I mentioned it to my surgeon at my 2 week check up and he didn't seem concerned. He said it was my back muscles over compensating for my stomach muscles that had been weakened due to surgery. My question is, has anyone else experienced this? How long does this last? What can I do for the pain. Currently I have been using Tylenol, and alternating Heat and Ice.

3 week post Op Question
Gumpgal replied to Gumpgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am trying. I sip all day long, some days I only get 40oz in, which I know is not enough. I am trying to increase my water intake each day. The Dr wants to see my tomorrow morning just to make sure nothing else is going on. -

Caligirl1216 hit the nail on the head. -
Good Luck! Just relax and walk when you can. Other than that try and get as much sleep and rest up.

I know this is a crazy question...
Gumpgal replied to mickie41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said that they needed to be removed because they would be putting a catheter in once I was under, he also said it was to keep The surgical room as contamination free as possible. -
Hello. I am scheduled for surgery July 28th, I am also having a hernia repair at the same time. I was wondering if anyone used an abdominal binder after surgery? If so, did it help? Is this something I should purchase prior to surgery??
-
Yeah! I know that now. I foolishly thought I would be one of the ones that just bounced back and hit the ground running. LOL My body has quickly corrected me.

I am 5 days post op and the last two nights I have experienced a ripping/burning pain in my lower abdomen. It wakes me from a dead sleep. It's horrendous. I can't move its hurts so bad. I have also had sever night sweats as well. To the point my shirt is soaked and I am freezing.Has anyone experienced either of these after Gastric Bypass? I am wondering if this is something I should loop my Dr in on?
-
Thanks ya'll! Basically he told me I am trying to push myself and to take some more time to rest and heal. It has only been 6 days ????. I guess I thought would bounce right back. Lol

So after a quick visit to the dr, he informed me that this is caused by muscle spasms. My body is trying to relax and the internal sutures and pulling. He prescribed a muscle relaxer to take at bed time and told me to be sure to stay on top of my pain medication.

@FrankinTx I will be calling first thing this morning. It's another night where the God awful pain has occurred, except for this time I took just regular Tylenol because I am trying to back to work tomorrow, and can't be doped up . Unfortunately the regular Tylenol doesn't do much for this particular pain. It is honestly the worst pain I have ever felt. It leaves me shaking and nauseous. It feels like something is ripping in or around my belly button. Sitting upright does help it a bit. I am starting to become worried.
-
Thanks! I will keep it in mind and try not to be to hard on myself????
-
Congrats! That's awesome! I hope to be as successful as you in the future. I am 5 days post op. Wow! You look amazing and happy ????!
-
So this may be to early to worry , but i feel a bit frustrated or nervous as well. I am 5 days post op and haven't lost a single pound. Nada, zip, zilch, zero. Is this normal? I am following my post op instructions, water, walking, protien. I am sure I am being paranoid. I just wanted to ask seasoned post op people who know what to expect.

I have numbness around one of my incision sites but not my hand. Is it the same had that the IV was administered?

Post Op Day 4- First Emotional Break of Sorts

My Dr does not use the drain, so that was one less thing for me to worry about ????. -
Anyone start pre-op diet early?
Gumpgal replied to PureDarkness's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pre op diet was successful! I lost 12 lbs and the Dr told my sister that my liver looked perfect and tiny, just what he wanted. LOL -
@@shelleylester I am only 5 days post op and I couldn't agree more. The last two nights I have been woken up by an intense ripping burning feeling in my lower abdomen. Pressure is the only thing that helps it. Thank goodness for the ab binder. I am supposed to go back to work tomorrow, I know there is no way I could even consider if it wasn't for the binder.
-
For anyone that was wondering if buying an Abdominal Binder is worth it... YES! I have been able to move more with less or no pain at all. The support makes all the differences.
