Hi all. I'm approximately 5 hours Post Op in Tijuana. Dr. Venezuela was my surgeon with MexicoBariatricClinic. I'm feeling pretty good. I've got some pain in my left shoulder area, which was to be expected. My throat is a little 'annoying' from the intubation, but definitely not intolerable. A LITTLE bit of Gas pains but not too bad. (I put in a Gas X strip as soon as I got back to my room). I've been up walking a few times already. Some of the meds make me a little nauseas if I move too fast but other than that, I'm great and could NOT be happier. The care I have received here has been phenomenal! The entire process from my arrival in San Diego and meeting with my driver to this point has been fantastic! I am SO very happy that I made this decision!

I'll be here tonight and tomorrow night, then one night in the hotel before flying back home! Thank you for the welcome! I can't wait to be on the 'loser's bench'!

Tomorrow is my big day! We spent the day traveling from Texas to Tijuana so I am POOPED. And can I tell you all that I've never been so excited to see a bowl of chicken broth in all my life, once we settled in to the hotel! Our layover was too short to be able to grab anything between flights. ???? being hungry makes for a grumpy girl! Anyway... As I sit here, I'm overcome with thoughts and emotions. I KNOW I'm doing the right thing, but whew, this is a LOT of life changes. Sadly all centered around food. I never realized how much of my life was centered around food till the past couple of weeks, with my pre-op diet. Almost every 'outing' or get together, is all centered around food somehow it seems. Guess my friends will have to start meeting me at the gym! Anyway... Congrats to all you who have gone before me! I wish you all much success in your healing process! See you all on the losers bench! ????

Will be the day that changes my entire life. I, like most of you all, have struggled with my weight for most of my life. I was the heavier chick in school. Up until my junior year. Then all of a sudden it just fell off over summer break. It was awesome. Then I graduated. At that time I started having horrific debilitating migraines. Irregular menstrual cycles, and crazy hair growing everywhere. PCOS and Psuedo Tumor Cerebri (they said). For those who may not know what Psuedo tumor cerebri is, it's basically too much spinal Fluid putting pressure on your brain, sort of acting like a tumor. STEROIDS is the 'magic medicine' my neurologist put me on. "It will cure it all." She's a doctor so I trusted her. Gained 80 lbs in 6 months. So now I feel awful have horrible headaches, crazy cycles, wild hairs growing everywhere plus now I've gone from a size 10 to almost a 20. Whooooaaaaa!!!! Anyway... We do a spinal tap, drain the excess fluid, still have to stay on steroids for a few months. Not To mention the complications from the spinal tap itself. Which has made me fearful of ever even attempting to have a child for fear of needles going anywhere near my back. And Lord help them if they ever think they need to drain spinal fluid for any kind of testing because I will NOT consent! So I finally got off the steroids. By this time I've gained up to approximately 270lbs. I'm 5'3". This is NOT GOOD. I started the weight loss journey. I've gone to doctors, weight loss clinics, weight watchers. I've tried every diet pill on the market. I've gone to the gym every day for months. I've cut out portion sizes, I stopped drinking sodas.... I would lose weight here and there, then life would kick me in the gut and I go back to a bad habit, and that one bad habit triggers all the other bad habits... So Id gain back the 10-15 lbs that I lost. I decided I wanted to be a paramedic. So I went back to school. And that's where I am now. I'm a 5'3", morbidly obese Paramedic, taking care of people who are.... ME in 5-10-15 years, if I don't change my life. I cannot even begin to tell you all how difficult it is to lift a stretcher with an overweight patient on it. And the majority of our patients are in fact, obese, if not morbidly so. It is THE SCARIEST thing I've ever seen. When you see someone who literally cannot breathe laying flat because they have so much weight on them putting pressure on their diaphragm and lungs. So I've yo-yo dieted until I'm fed up with it. I made the decision to take a hold of my life. Not only for me, but for my family, and my coworkers. I do not want them working a cardiac arrest on their 32 year old co-worker, partner, friend.... My journey to a healthier me began last Saturday with my starting weight @ 246, my pre-op diet began. As of this morning I weigh 232lbs. I start my clear liquid phase in a few days and fly from Texas to San Diego on Friday. My surgery is scheduled for Saturday in Tijuana. I'm nervous, scared, and extremely excited!!! I cannot wait to see myself in 6 months or a year from now! It's MY time to change MY LIFE for MYSELF! Blessings to you all and my prayers are with each of you as you embark on your own journey!

HAS ANYONE TAKEN B-12 INJECTIONS
Tjo1982 replied to BackToBeautiful's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be taking the B12 injections as well. Although, I've actually been doing so off and on for a few years. I give them to myself. I'm a paramedic so my company has no problems ordering the needles and syringes and sharps containers for me. Then I just take the full sharps container there for disposal when it's full. Which takes FOREVER, because I only give myself one injection a week. I have major issues with taste and texture. I dislike anything chalky and the liquid sublingual b12 is HORRIBLE tasting to me. So, injections it is! -
Anyone scheduled for 11/12?!?!
Tjo1982 replied to LauraLei101's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm using Isopure tasteless Protein Powder. It has 26g protein per scoop, lactose and gluten free. 110 calories. I can't taste it, when I mix it with Soup or fruits. -
I purposely scheduled mine for 2 weeks before thanksgiving so that I wouldn't gorge myself. It happens to be my favorite holiday. So prior to starting my pre-op diet, I went ahead and fixed a few of my favorite Thanksgiving items for my coworkers and we had an early Holiday. Now I've had my dressing and pumpkin pie fix and I'm choking down the shakes and Clear liquids for pre-op! I say definitely go for it! Get your new life started ASAP!!!

Passport for Mexico
Tjo1982 replied to BitterSweet*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I literally sent off for my 10 days ago and received it today. I expedited of course so it cost a little more, but they definitely got it to me in a timely manner. -
who's having surgery in tijuana in November?
Tjo1982 replied to vsgmur's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
November 15. Dr Valenzuela. I've read and heard nothing but wonderful things as well. -
I'm scheduled for Nov 15 in Tijuana with Dr. Valenzuela. I couldn't be more excited. Or nervous. I started my Pre-op diet on Saturday and well, it pretty much sucks! But I know in the end, it will be totally worth it.

I'm on day 3 of pre-op and my head hurts so bad that all I want to do is drink about 6 dr.peppers and take a handful of excedrine migraine. Is this normal for my head to hurt this badly? I have migraines ANYWAY, but this is excrutiating.....
