  1. Started doing hot yoga classes, mostly for the stretching and balance, but I suspect I am burning some serious calories. Anyone have any good numbers?

    I have a question....

The longer answer is it depends. Some people here have strictures which really make it dificult to take big bites. I don't have that problem. I have always eaten quickly, so I measure before putting on plate. At a resturant, I put what I want on a side plate before I take a bite.

    Date Ideas

Fun date ideas anyone? I just had an interesting one. Groupon had a four hour "Intro to Fencing Class" at our local sword fighting club. One heck of a workout. I chose the woman carefully (she also does mud runs, so I knew she had an adventurous streak). It was fun. And I found out which one of us has the more aggressive streak. :-)

Just got back from a 4 hour fencing class, would not have tried that last year
  7. @ - a little tough love here...if that is more important than your health, surgery probably isn't for you, this is a tool, not a magic wand and you have to be committed to make it work.

    Dating after surgery

Answer to original question is it is much easier to to date 90 pounds lighter. The quality and quantity of opportunities increases dramatically. No, I don't tell anyone about the surgery unless I really know them. Occasionally I need to explain why there are pictures of me on the web where I look very different from the ones on the dating site. And I will explain I did lose 80 pounds last year as part of a change to healthier life style. My opinion is women in late 40's and 50's will be more impressed with weight loss info than younger women and no guy will want to hear this from a potential date (so ladies wait until date 3 or 4 to explain the weight loss).

  11. I was back doing emails while in Mexico, and full time 6 days later. Not because I had to, but because I was bored and I could. Self employed and at a desk.

How to get protein in early on

Try Isopure Protein. They have clear drinks, 40g protein. I like the flavor, many don't. So don't buy many, but grab one at GNC and try.

  16. I am spending the same, but I now go to Whole Foods and get a quarter pound of "grass fed, organic" meats. If you are going to be able to eat 3-4 ozs of something, I want it to taste really good. So it's all quality over quantity.

    Really Annoyed

I agree on the muscle mass, but my stall ended when I started adding more rest into my workout schedule. It seems counter intuitive that you actually will make more gains in strength by not working out, but it's working. Since getting rid of yoga and resting those two extra days I have been losing 3 pounds per week.

    Just Checking.....

The data point I used to go with the sleeve was the Cleveland Clinic data on 4 year results. Nearly the same results without many of the side effects and difficulties with bypass. https://weightloss.clevelandclinic.org/sleevegastrectomy.aspx

  21. I have been stalled since April. At first I thought it was all muscle gain, which is very possible since according to my caliper body fat test showed I was losing body fat. But every two weeks I'd get on the scale and it didn't move at all. Until two weeks ago. Ever since my mountain climb I've been losing 3 pounds a week. It's almost eerie, but I'm really digging it. I'd like to be at my goal by November and now I have hope I might actually get there.

    ok, first date story/question

@@ezbeinggreen - Very good and insightful post. It reminds me of the experience of American nurses in Viet Nam. Since they were the only American women there, they had their choice of good looking fit young men and were constantly being hit on. When they come back to the states and they felt invisible. In short it was too much for a year and then suddenly the attention was gone. Drove many to absolute despair. @@CowgirlJane - I am enjoying getting a women's perspective on this. Thanks for starting the topic. While the new attention I am getting isn't over the top, I'm really enjoying it, but I think if women pursued like too many men do, I think it would freak me out.

  25. If you are self paying, why not go to Mexico? Much cheaper and when you check the rates of infection much lower than in the US. Less crap than we do in the states most of which we do because of lawsuit fears and demands of insurance companies.
