    What will I need?

Gas X dissolving strips, you can use up to 4 at a time to help get rid of gas they pump in for the laporscopic procedure. Elastic waist shorts, slip on shoes, portable music and earbuds. Oh, I made sure my bag didn't weigh more than 20 pounds so I didn't have to lift much. I didn't need narcotics, so I would have been able to drive the next day. But it really depends on the drugs they give you for pain to see if you can drive. Just make sure you have the mobility to be able to see around you, everyone is different when it comes to incisions. Most of my work is at the computer, so I was actually back at it the day following surgery. My procedure was on a Tuesday, was up and walking after they woke me up. Wednesday I was bored silly but couldn't leave Mexico until Friday, so I spent Thursday at the mall across the street from the hospital. Saturday I went to the OU/Baylor football game. My experience is probably not typical, but I prepared well in advance. I have no idea about your level of conditioning, or your job, but I work out of my house, though I did make sure I didn't have any serious travel for a couple of weeks following the procedure.

    Yoga post-op

I'll give you my view why I think its best to wait a while. I waited 4 months before trying yoga again. Had nothing to do with sleeve, had everything to do with weight and balance. You develop a certain amount of what is referred to as muscle memory doing yoga. I think a rapid shifting of weight and muscle during the first four months is the wrong time to develop it. I can't prove this, but that is the criteria I used. So I walked for first month. Slowly added weight training and then running into the mix. Month four began hot yoga classes and the results were dang spectacular. Your results will vary.

    Leptin and Runner's High

This is a very interesting article http://www.msn.com/en-us/health/fitness/why-are-morning-runners-so-happy/ar-AAdXPBx?ocid=spartandhp Exercise first thing in morning on an empty stomach may optimize leptin levels making you feel full.

    Leptin and Runner's High

@jess9395- I thought your question was "what is leptin and why does it matter what level it is?" My interest in the article is that it seems to address one of the interesting problems with weight loss/maintenance and your hormone leptin. Great explanation of why sustaining weight loss is so difficult: http://theweightofthenation.hbo.com/watch/bonus-shorts/the-quest-to-understand-the-biology-of-weight-loss go to the 12:30 mark So yes, the article is about the runners high, but what is important to me is that it also shows that morning, empty stomach exercise seems to optimize leptin levels which is important for maintaining your new size. And heck if it makes you feel good, I'll take that too.

    Mixed feelings

Oh yeah, everyone freaks out just before surgery. As well they should. You are making permanent changes to your body. I think the ladies can explain this better than I, hold off on getting the girls raised until your child arrives.
  8. Thanks for the article, interesting read. Mine was mostly interested in adding in some more fruit and vegies. She did suggest adding a small serving of steel cut oats in the morning.

  15. @@Folly - Don't feel bad for noticing. The reality is that we are bombarded with information. We get more info in the Sunday newspaper than our ancestors got in a year 150 years ago, and don't even think about what the internet had done to the information explosion. So we ignore most things until we become aware of them. For instance, I bought a Lexus. Now I see them everywhere. Was there a sudden buying binge of Lexus's? NO. I just started noticing them. Same with people who are in the same boat that you were in. I'm glad you are not judgmental, and your attitude is one of compassion, but the fact you were aware of it just means your RAS is working well:

I just went out with a woman who smoked. You will not believe how bad it smells. I can't believe we used to be able to smoke inside in public meetings. (well it was the 80's, there wasn't much in the way of quality control back then)

I HATE exercising! What Should I do?!

@@Sunshine3073 - As well stated by Babbs, most of the weight loss will come from food choices. However, the tone, contour of your body as well the quality of your life are going to be determined by exercise. So you have some choices, if you have the mind set that I can take my medicine in small doses - use this method: http://www.mercola.com/infographics/what-is-peak-fitness.htm - best results, small time commitment. Or if you want to get it all done in one or two weekends a month, climb a mountain (6000 calories burned in one day: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/346873-once-a-wish-now-done-what-makes-you-proud/). Now my personal experience has been I have been so turned on by how much more I can do because of the weight loss it has turned me on and I've become a gym rat and I like 5K's. My neighbors commented at my Home Owners meeting "what in the world happened to you, you've lost weight, your coming running down the street all the time." Now, my favorite trick that I am only sharing with you is really good audio books. I load those on my iPod. I am only allowed to listen when I am working out. So if I want to continue listening, I have to take a walk or run.

    Loose Skin

The loose skin will be affected by several things - most important is what you can't control...genetics. But exercise does firm the muscle supporting the skin and does provide some better contour. Give your skin Protein, Water, stay out of hot tubs, take cooler showers and less sun damage are your best tools to optimize what you have. But at some point you might have to look at plastics. But it's worth it to be finally able to lead the life I want.
