  1. I love it when we are only dealing with good problems in a great and affluent country. Oh hell, we all are dealing with that problem, or we wouldn't be on this site.

    Gloves come off?

Thanks for sharing that. It reflects what I felt was going to be happening if I didn't make a change. I appreciate the validation of my decision.
  3. When was the last time you were scared for your physical safety? I mean really scared? Middle school? In the military? Most women are scared everyday. You didn't probably realize this because you never thought to ask. They get scared in parking garages, walking to the car at night. I never made that connection. I used to get mad when my ex would wake me up to investigate a noise she thought she heard at night, but at least now I understand it. That's why security is soooo very important to women. I have read a large number of books and articles trying to understand women. Most are sappy, and are opinions based on some observations or feelings, but I never felt that there was any hard science behind it. And look women are complex. Freud never understood women. Neither did Einstein. I mean really: Why do they have to go the bathroom in packs? Why do they shop the way they do? Why do they keep getting upset when they tell you a problem and you try to solve it? Why does she need to be held? I just finished Dr. John Gottman's book: The Man's Guide to Women: Scientifically Proven Secrets from the "Love Lab" About What Women Really Want - https://goo.gl/x5hTjI. (for full disclosure, I don't read books, I listen to them while doing chores and exercising. This was a good and entertaining listen). I'm not saying that you will understand everything the women in your life are doing, but thanks to the insights from the Gotman Lab, at least you will be able to understand the differences between you and her. This isn't a "blame the hormones" book, but it does explain just how profound the impact is. This one is a nice mix of humor, science, medicine and serious behavioral research to give you some clues as to what is going on, and how you can make the woman in your life happier. We men are easy. What do we want? Less bitching, more sex. If you can break her code, you will get it. You will live longer and better in a solid relationship, so invest in yourself. My divorce cost me over well over six figures (and worth every damn penny), but my current relationship is one that I want to last. I think I picked up some good ideas to help make it grow. If you are not in a relationship, there are some good tips on how to start one. There are good ideas on how to really seduce your woman. Some nice salacious tips on how to have an even better time in the bedroom. In short, dang good book. If anyone has read it, I'd appreciate hearing some of your takeaways. This may not be a long thread, but if you do read it, feel free to post your thoughts. (Note to lady lurkers: Feel free to chime in on this one. Because this book isn't a "blame" book, you might really enjoy it too.

@@Tommy Joe - I am a happier "thinner" guy. Everything is better...aches go away, health issues abate, sex is even more fun, and I don't feel deprived. I eat great stuff, just significantly less. I will say this though...for most of my life I was a "healthy" and active fat guy. But eventually there were warning lights on my health dashboard. If I stayed were I was eventually something was going to get me. Please factor that into your equation. Check with your doc and ask him/her "if I stay at this weight, what negative effects am I likely facing?"

    Surgery date 4/29

The nausea depends on your reaction to anesthesia. I was up and walking within minutes of waking up. I was actually glad when they took the drain out because that was the only thing that hurt especially when I rolled over it. Good luck, walk as much as you can, expect to freak yourself out and buy everything you will need for the first two weeks now.
  8. 21 years ago the OKC bombing occurred. It was horrible to be here when it did, but the strength and compassion of my city is an inspiration.

The power of community is overwhelming under unspeakable circumstances. We're fortunate to have the capacity to summon it spontaneously. We'd have nothing otherwise.

The age of innocence ended that day... we as a county had to face our own horrible truths! The strength and resilience of Oklahoma City, has shown other great cities how to overcome such devastating and horrific events! Stay Strong OKC... and Oklahoma City too!!!

You would not believe the change in OKC post bombing. Interesting book that documents most of the change from Sen. David Holt: http://www.amazon.com/Big-League-City-Oklahoma-Citys/dp/0966146093. It also shows what goes into working with the NBA and modern sports.

  9. @@theantichick - I watched every video I could find, especially from those who were not successful, and those who had problems. I faced the worst outcomes, and when I realized I could handle them, that's when I sent in my deposit. This book was really helpful to me in prepping: http://www.amazon.com/The-Emotional-First-Aid-Kit/dp/0976852659 I am evangelist for this surgery, but I'm not a fanatic. It is a great tool, but for some, so is weight watchers. I just wish you great success and if you want to go down this path, we are here for you.

    Regrets?

I regret not doing it earlier. I missed out on some good years that could have been even better. I think I spent thousands of dollars in medical costs, extra large clothes etc. by being fat.

@@tony031469 - Your relationship with this drug will be different. Drinking before you get to goal will stall your progress. Proceed with extreme caution.
  14. It was a lady who I went out with a few times. She basically let me know that she wasn't interested in dating a fat guy. So I started weight watchers again, and then I heard a pod cast where they got into a discussion of how hard it was to lose weight and they stated WW sucuess rate was about 8% or less but WLS was 80%. I remember say "BS" but I looked it up and dang if it wasn't true. I spent two weeks looking into it and realized this was for me. Had it done on election day 2014 and have been enjoying the new me ever since.

    Questions for doc

How big a discount will you give me for not having to do all those stupid things for insurance approval? Does he suck out the gas before gluing you back up? (which is really nice) But most important questions are the ones you should be asking yourself. I really hope you will get this book and start working on the issues that brought you here, then this wonderful tool will be worth every penny: http://www.amazon.com/The-Emotional-First-Aid-Kit/dp/0976852659 And remember, WLS is a tool, not a magic wand. Best wishes in this journey.

@@Alex Brecher - great topic. It took three months, but in that time I quit taking meds for high blood pressure, got rid of my CPAP, no more meds for gout. Pain in knee went away. Back pain ended. Side note, also ended all the ED meds. I feel better than I did when I was 19.

Get a WLS guy and your date will be cheep????. Btw you might try Tinder. (If you mention you will pay you will get lots of interest) Guys can't contact you unless there is mutual interest. EHarmony is nice because there isn't browsing.
