    Airport security issues ?

I have flown several times since my sleeve and have had no problem going through security x-ray machines.- Except for my umbilical hernia which must look like a bomb because every time I get patted down on my bellybutton Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Ouch, doesn't that hurt?

I really am full of sh*t

Probably a good reason to do the weigh in's once a week or so. Human's are complicated. We can retain stuff and let it go rather quickly. BTW, for the record: Each day, on average, people produce 1 ounce of poop for each 12 pounds of their body weight. The average poop is 2.5 pounds.

    Unsupportive family

@@gary5862 - for anyone who doesn't get what you are saying, imagine Gary quit smoking and his significant other continued to puff around him. Or he liked to drink, has a liver problem and has to quit, but SO keeps imbibing around him. I'm not saying that everyone in the world should bend over because we have a problem, but the SO's should be mindful. NOTE: I have quit smoking while a SO continued to smoke. It sucked. Especially when I got my sense of taste back, and could really taste it when we kissed. ICK. Hang in there, August is coming. Nothing like a reformed prostitute, former smoker, or a WLS person.
  4. It's a special event. The problem was I was doing many "special events" particularly while traveling. For the people I was meeting with it was "a special event." They only had them two times a year, but I was have 70 or 80 of them a year.

    Whennnnnn

@@Seagull - Yes. Lost a bunch pre-op (you quit drinking alcohol and work to shrink your liver, good things will happen). I actually gained 10 at the hospital thanks to all the IV Fluid they pumped in me. But after 10 days of healing, everything started "moving" inside again, the weight really came off fast.

@@VSGAnn2014 - OK, that makes sense. @@LipstickLady - After reading some of the posts, yep this idea makes sense. Esp. with change of life issues that I think I will be hitting me down the road. Might want to ask @B-52. I don't see him bouncing around as much as he used to and I wonder if this is something that would get him back in the mix.
  9. Water, Protein and good genes are the most important. Minimize sun, stay out of tanning beds. Also no hot tubbing and keep the temp down on showers and baths for the period of rapid weight loss. There aren't any magic lotions, but I do use a moisturizer to keep my skin as healthy as possible. Your skin is your largest organ, so make it happy anyway.

    Airport security issues ?

The scanner would not pick up anything on the inside like staples. They are not Iron or steel, so they won't set off a metal detector. Surgery scars shouldn't be a problem, but lose skin might be a problem. The dang things kept pick up sweat on my back so I got one of the "TSA PRE" cards so I don't have to get scanned anymore. PERSONAL RANT: Only the government can make something less safe, more annoying and more expensive. TSA is the poster child. The only thing that is really effective at stopping bombs and guns is a metal detector (nothing of consequence goes boom without metal). The scanners are expensive and they just don't work. Every test of the TSA at picking up banned items shows they fail 90% of the time. But they want another increase in the fee even though the lines keep getting longer. Just remember during this election year when someone says "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" scream and run.

    Inflammation and swelling

@@tanyarahmes - I prefer my Water at room temp, so I had 64oz bottle and used shot glasses to help me to sip constantly because I was so used to chugging I wasn't drinking enough because I was concerned I would do it during the healing phase. I was surprised at how much weight I gained in the hospital, until I realized how much IV Fluid they put in my and how little was going out. About day 10, everything finally started coming out and rapid weight loss began (with the occasional stall).

I've seen this idea bandied around. I've never quite understood it. There were times when I have had private concerns about certain people, but I've always personal messaged Alex or someone else I trusted about it. I'm sure I could be convinced, and have no problem participating if asked. (I appreciate being asked to chime in @@LipstickLady btw)
  13. @@Marc F - I was a "healthy fat guy" at 52. But I started seeing those little warning signs that something was going to happen and a MD friend of mine told me, you got to get that weight off. That is what began my journey. I can tell you life is much better smaller. This tool gives more people a great second chance, and works waaaaay better than behavioral change. But if you need additional motivation, may I suggest reading: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/195065-you-know-you-lost-weight-when/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/219760-sex-oh-my-god-sex/

    Concerned about memory loss

This is an older thread but I wanted to give a personal update. I started getting very concerned the first of December that something was wrong with my brain. I was under a great deal of stress and one night something happened and I lost about 12 hours during a conference. Absolutely no memory. I was told that I went to a party and I was really out of character and apparently was drinking heavy too. It was terrifying waking up with no recollection of where you are or why your clothes are still on and no idea where your phone is etc. My neurologist did brain scans to rule out a tumor and stroke. Since January I've been doing cognitive function tests to see if it was early dementia. There was steady upward progress on that front which ruled out that. So his final diagnosis was that it was a non-recurring brain seizure. The latest round of tests showed that I'm finally stable. Which goes along with how I feel and strangely what one of my colleagues whom I taught with last weekend. He didn't know about the testing, but his comment was "It's like the old you is back." Do I think this was related to WLS? No and neither does my neurologist. The brain is like any other body part and problems can happen. I'm just very glad it wasn't more serious and it looks as though I'm fully recovered.

    People and their big mouths

I was thinking the opposite end of the digestive tract would have been more appropriate for the rude people. I agree, the mouth would be the wrong orifice. Since his brains are in his a** anyway, that is where it should go. @, thanks for ranting and not killing the bastard. Those stupid comments hurt like hell. We all know they shouldn't, but they do. One of my 10 reasons for getting the surgery was "revenge." There have been people who rejected me because of my weight before surgery. As it turns out that has to be the least satisfying result of the surgery. Haters just don't get it, so you never get satisfaction or vindication by rubbing their noses in it. All you can realistically do, is find your own happiness and awesomeness. Occasionally "the I'll show him" thought can be a motivator, but I find it very hollow. Just continue to be awesome.
  16. For the last 9 moths I have dated the most incredible woman. It hit me tonight what has been so great. I never feel bad, self conscious nor even guilty about discussing difficult issues. We are both adults who have survived difficult childhoods and marriages...yet grew through them and used the trauma to get stronger. We have not checked out on our kids and remained engaged. I'm really digging this . This makes me happy and very much at peace.

@@erp - Holy cow Erp, you look fantastic. Great job. And for a non-professional athlete type, 24% would be fantastic for any woman. I'd start a blog or a business to start helping others tracking numbers like you have. And that's not a joke. You have done some fantastic work, and it looks complicated, and you should be compensated for it for clients who want your help. I think I would subscribe, that is great stuff.
  25. Congratulations, good luck, God Speed on this journey. The first few weeks kind of stink. You are nervous. You second guess yourself. You don't poop for almost a week post surgery and you really start to freak out. Then things start to get better and a new normal begins. THEN the weight comes off. And you get to laugh about your pants LITERALLY falling off in the parking lot (invest in some nice undies). Just keep walking and getting in the best shape you can going in. Plan on walking after you get home for about a month. Sip Water all the time the first week (I used a shot glass to start with just to regulate the amount). I looked around for menu ideas for every week post op and tried them all and stocked those in my kitchen. All my kids junk food was moved to another cabinet away from my stuff. Enjoy the journey, and if you ever start getting scared read some of this: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/195065-you-know-you-lost-weight-when/
