    Why You Shouldn't Eat Salad

I totally agree with everything everyone else has said in response. I crave salads now, and do my calculations to make sure I don't add too much fat, etc, but with chicken, eggs, and low fat cheese, you can make a salad taste good and keep it healthy..........I too use the dark leafy greens. My motto is..........if it works for me, and is healthy, I eat it. I can't live my life without foods I enjoy. Heck, last night I ate 2 malted milk balls. Had a bad chocolate attack and allowed myself 2 balls! Just enough to enjoy the taste and move on. For me, the band allows me to CONTROL what I eat, not give up everything. Sorry I got off on something else, but, come on..........salad? Please..........like anything else you can adjust it to make it healthy.

    Sex after the Band

Nope, can't feel a thing.............feels exactly the same
  4. Of course it is your choice. Always! You are the keeper of your body. And it sounds like you are doing great exactly where you are. Your doctor will make recommendations based on how much you are losing, how much you can eat, how your body is adjusting to the band, and how you feel. He is the expert. Listen to him (or her), but the bottom line is: every decision is ultimately yours.

    How Long?

MIne was pretty quick too. It took my insurance co about 31 days to approve after they received all my info from the dr's office. Then it was about 3 wks til my surgery date.

    Disneyland??

As long as you get out and get your legs moving to avoid clots the ride would probably be fine. My concern would be the 3 days at Disney. Thats A LOT of activity for only being 1 wk post op. If it were me, I'd reschedule. I returned to work in 3 days but I still had a lot of fatigue up to about 2-3 weeks post op.

    Band Filled to its Capacity

Not sure why he chose the 4cc band other than he said he makes that decision when he gets you open and can see your anatomy inside. He uses different ones for different people based on anatomy and starting weight, etc. I'm happy with my 4cc band. I got to my sweet spot early on, and have had a consistent loss. I am now weighing on the lower side of what is normal for my height, but would like to lose 5-10 more if I can.

    Band Filled to its Capacity

good question. i too have a 4cc band with 3.8cc in now. my surgery was 1 year ago. havent needed a fill for 6 months and still have great restriction. my doc said that 4cc bands will hold over 4cc if needed. (but i didnt ask how much more cuz i really dont need it). how much do you have in yours? both my dietician and doctor told me going in that with a 4cc band you should get to your sweet spot earlier than with a 10cc band (which makes sense and was true in my case). Its not been an issue with me at all yet.

    sweet spot weight loss

It has varied with me from month to month. I haven't had a fill for about 6 months now. Have 3.8cc in my 4cc band. Have been at perfect restriction for quite a while. I have lost slowly, but steadily thru the past year. My largest monthly loss was 15 lbs, my lowest was 5lbs ( I only weigh monthly). I can eat about a cup and a half which works for me. As in everything, it varies from person to person. Only you and your doctor can decide what your perfect restriction will be. That will depend on how much you can eat, how much you are losing and how you do with the amount of restriction you have (ie....any reflux? heartburn? coughing? difficulty swallowing, etc.....) Discuss everything with your medical team. They are the experts and they rely on you to provide accurate information in order to help you succeed!!!

    Exercise Music

I load my I-Pod up with a variety of music. Disco, oldies, 50's swing and today's pop. I think the key is to find music you love, that has a good beat and makes you want to move, move, move. For me, variety in my music is key! And change the songs regularly to avoid boredom

anyone have #10 band that hold 4cc?

I have a 4cc band with 3.8cc in it at present. As with the earlier post I hit my sweet spot all along the way-increasing as I was able. Havent had a fill for 6 months. Tomorrow is my 1 yr bandiversay and I see my doc tomorrow as well. I can eat a cup to cup and a half with a consistent weight loss. Am anxious to go tomorrow and see how Ive done the past month. Im currently at the goal I set a year ago but am trying to lose 5-10 more now that I'm there. May need an itsy bitsy fill-I'm finding that even tho I eat about the same amount, I get hungry earlier than before. Can't wait to get to tomorrows appt

Where is your sweet spot in a 4cc band?

I currently have 3.8cc in my 4cc band. Havent had a fill for 6 months. Im thinking I might need the tiniest bit of a fill this month however. Will discuss with the doc tomorrow. I can eat almost anything. Breads give me some trouble and I avoid them in public, but can do most anything else.

    Need Reasurrance/Clarification PLEASE

This is what perfect restriction feels like for me......I can eat a cup or sometimes a cup and a half at meal time and feel full (but not stuffed). I make good food choices (most of the time). I don't think about food inbetween because I don't notice hunger til 4-5 hrs after my last meal. I might have a "taste" of something yummy, but am satisfied with just the taste and find it easy to not take the 2nd taste. I am at goal, but want to lose 10 more if possible.

    Need Reasurrance/Clarification PLEASE

I'm 10 months out and actually find it very easy to lose. I have a 4cc band so it didnt take long to get to my sweet spot, but have lost consistently since surgery. If you follow the suggested plan it will work for you. Good luck!!

Do you use a scale at home???

I never weigh anywhere but the doctors office. I get too obsessed with the scale. So, when I get on the scale at the office each month it seems like a huge victory. I can tell by my clothes how I'm doing inbetween visits. I will be a year out on May 7th.

    Soda soda soda

You can put any carbonated beverage in the blender and it will take away the fizz immediately...........we did it all the time when I worked the pediatric ward and docs ordered flat coke.

    Back Pain?

I have had a similar problem with MID-back pain since November. (not lower). I was banded in May 08. I've had xrays, scans, etc. Went to the chiropractor and got the feel good treatments that helped for a few hours. It never occured to me that weight LOSS could cause the pain. It seemed to me that the weight gain would cause pain but I figured losing weight wouldnt! Little did I know. Finally got referred to a good Physical therapist. He asked me if I had recently lost a lot of weight. I told him I had lost about 70 lbs since last May. He said that makes sense then. He said when you are over weight your ligments, etc are stretched to accommodate the xtra heaviness. With a big weight loss those ligaments are now trying to deal with the "unstretching" and are confused so to speak. He gave me back exercises and rubber band exercises for strengthening and I can now feel a vast improvement. So, I guess what Im saying is, your body can respond in various ways with such a big weight loss. Check it out with your physician.
