After 15 years..... wait for it..... I'm in Onederland
babelfish5 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
After 15 years, I'm now in onederland. It may be only 199 (at this time) but it's under 200. It's been a long hard road to get here, but I am more determined than ever to lose the rest of my excess weight. -
I think the calcualtors are wrong. They just churn out statitics. If your determined to lose more than 10kg, then you will. Determination and a positive attitude will beat the odds any day.

Have a date! Are second thoughts normal?
babelfish5 replied to marbelvsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is normal. As pointed out in other resonses, the fear of the unknown is what get's us. From my experience, my decision to get VSG was the best choice I've ever made (Next to asking my wife to marry me). -
Sleeved 11/4 and down 42 pounds post surgery. I lost plenty of weight on the pre-op program as well. No regrets. the only issue I've had was the week 3 stall.

Slightly Depressed- 3 Weeks Post Op and Gaining Weight
babelfish5 replied to MyssJones's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the same thing at the 3 week mark. I gained 2 pounds and stalled there for almost 2 weeks. Another question, Are you exercising as well? If so, how much? -
Congrats!!! Now the fun part starts!!
-
I'm already post op. But Congrats on your date. Good Luck!!

I think stalls are a part of it. Keep the faith, follow the program and you'll ge t through it.

I don't necessarily think I'm more vain. At my beginning weight, it was almost impossible to find clothes that fit well. If I wanted them to fit better, I would need a good tailor. My weight fluctuated so much, that tailoring them wasn't an option I could afford. I cared about how I looked before, but didn't have any real options. Now that I'm down (84 as of this posting) I can find clothes that actually fit well. If that's vain, then so be it. If I'm vain.... I'm gonna look GOOD doing it.

Congrats!! Can I get a Hallelujah!!!

Celebrating our victories

I had to buy 2 new things... a new smaller belt (2 sizes) and... ahem... Ummmm... errrrr new underwear... mine were too big and falling off. -
I've kept what I did to my self with the exception of my close friends and family. I didn't have much criticism about my decision. I think most of us will see that from people no matter how far out we are if we tell someone what we did. The criticism I have had has always been rather shallow and self-centered. "I've battled the same 10 pounds for years and if I can do it, so can you." Really, try battling 160 pounds for a decade and then come to me and tell me that. Most people who criticize you have no idea what it's like to have to lose A LOT of weight.. It seems to me that anyone who's ever lost a few pounds seems to think that their way is the only way. I was fortunate to have a supporting family who helped me every step of the way. For me, I ignore those who are critical. They haven't walked in my shoes.

I use the Celebrate chewable vitamins. I take them with my protein shakes. This morning I took one on an empty small banana shaped stomach and began sipping water. The nausea was terrible. Has anyone else had this? Did I take the vitamin wrong? Will this get better?

Funny Sleeve Stories ... Let's hear yours
babelfish5 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm interested if anyone has and funny sleeve stories. I have one aready and am willing to share. I've been self conscious about taking my shirt off in public for a long time. Since I started the process for surgery I decided that NOW was the time to change all that. I started a gym membership and began working out. For the longest I would'nt change at the gym. Since surgery, I decided to go for it and change there to make my life a bit easier. I'm an old Marine SF Recon grunt. I served in the 1st Gulf war. I've got a few scars on my chest and back from past advetures and now I have these cuts from surgery. On the 1st day I changed at the gym there were about 3 young men in their 20's getting changed and ready for a basketball game. I took my shirt off and started to get ready. They got really quiet and were looking at my surgery scars. I was getting a bit self conscious when one of them spoke up and said, "DUDE!! What the heck happened to you?" I'm always up for pulling a good joke on someone. So. with my best Marine War Face said, "Knife Fight." and walked away. I don't think any of those young men got anywhere close to me during my workout. It took everything I had not to laugh. That's mine... what's yours? -
Everyone who ever lost a pound thinks they know it all.

I'm with @@Elode . This rudeness may have been more about her commission on this than a genuine concern for your health. -
It's called the 2 week stall. I'm going through it as well. From what I've read, it's a common thing.
-
So far, my only trigger to dumping (Just over 2 weeks out) is sugar. I had a full calorie Vitamin Water with lots of sugar that caused me to dump. It's not a pleasent experience. I'm looking at this as a positive. It's great renforcement to not have sugar.

Now I've went and done it... Motivation Level set to: EXTREME!
babelfish5 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So, My lovely wife who constantly puts up with my hairbrained schemes, crazy trips and run-on sentences with grace and patience volunteers at the local chapter of the Assistance League, or as I call it "The League of Extraordinary Ladies". I went in today to say hello and saw the most wonderful thing. A Goeffery Beene Neimun Marcus full length thick wool overcoat. It was a thing of beauty and a joy to behold. It was a large and ..... only $15. Ahem..... SQUEEEEE!!! I purchased it. It is too small for me now, but after another 40 pounds.... It won't be. I just thought I was motivated before, Now... motivation is turbo-charged. -
I had a leak test during surgery and 1 24 hours after. I agree about the barium. The test 24 hours after was rough. Swollen stomach and barium do not go well together.
