I, too, must echo the sentiments of everyone else. Peter, I am so incredibly sorry for your devastating loss and can't imagine the pain your are enduring. To be so selfless and take the time to post your wife's story is truly amazing. You and your family will be in my prayers. May God Bless You and Heal You, -Amy

Congratulations!! That is such an awesome accomplishment. And I love that you did it with your whole family. Crossing that finish line feels pretty damn amazing, huh? Hmm....next thing you know you'll be doing a 10k!! Great job!!

I really didn't know much about the sleeve prior to my hub getting the surgery. There are definite pro's and con's. It's sorta like a "happy medium" between bypass and the band. The upside of the sleeve is that you don't have a foreign object in you and don't have to deal with fills. The downside is it's a one shot deal and if you don't eat the right foods and the right portions over time the stomach will stretch and you're at risk for gaining weight back. I think the sleeve was a good choice for my hubby and the band was a good choice for me. It's all good!!

Any athletes out there before getting the Band?
marathinner replied to KatW's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I'm training for my second marathon (first one...post band) and have been drinking large amounts of water and low sugar electrolyte replacements with no problems whatsoever!! -
Oh...so glad you've posted this thread!! My hubby had the gastric sleeve 3 weeks ago. He was only 50 pounds over weight but has co-morbidities. I was hesitant about him getting the surgery but he was pretty insistant and insurance approved it. Of course, since he's a guy, he's lost 38 pounds in 3 weeks...ya, it's taken me over 3 months to lose that much!! At first I was kinda irritated and jealous, but then I pulled my head out of my a$$ and realized he deserves health just as much as I do and how great is it that we can have this lifestyle together!! We had our first "dinner" together last night and we were laughing at our teeny plates and portion sizes. Even though he's like 12 pounds from his goal weight and I have like 50-60 more to go (grrrrr), I am very grateful and extraordinarly lucky to have a wonderful husband and the grateful gift of health!!

I've had 3 fills so far. The first 2 he only put in 1cc and I felt no restriction. The 3rd he put in 3cc's for a total of 5cc's and I had great restriction up until a couple of days ago. The hunger is creeping back in and I know I notice I'm eating a little more. I'm scheduled for my 4th fill next week and feel that 1cc might put me at my sweet spot!!

Ugh...my heart aches for you just hearing your story. They rank this type of pain/grief up there with death. But in my opinion, this is worst than death because you still have to LIVE with it!!I know you feel like the pain will never go away and your life will never be the same, but I PROMISE YOU, the pain WILL go away and your life will get better. You have to continue to go through the emotions and give yourself time to grieve. Your pain is too severe for you to be making any final decisions. I hope you are doing one-on-one counseling in addition to the couples counseling. You need to let your friends and family (and us here at LBT) nurture you, love you, and remind you of what a beautiful and amazing woman you are. You need to know that no matter what happens...you will always be an incredible Mom to your kids. You won't get all the answers right away, but over time you will. For now, just let the ones who love you most catch your fall. I'm so sorry you are experiencing this excruciating pain and know that everyone on this board is here to support you.

Bitching and Moaning and Stomping my feet...Little bit of a Rant.

Damn...you are so funny RSG!!:smile2: And 35 pounds is AWESOME!! I think we've all been in the depths of a wicked plateau and you just want to throw the scale off a cliff. Then, next thing you know...BAM (Emeril Voice) you just drop the pounds. The other thing is you can't use the scale on the only measuring stick. Think of the inches, the clothes sizes, the fact that you're eating SIGNIFICANTLY less portions than before. These are all great victories and you are doing awesome. HOWEVER, we are here to support you so like LilMissBandAid said....VENT AWAY!! You are hilarious!! -

I'm excited that I can be part of this thread!! I'm a little over 3 months post op and am feeling great!! My first pic is when I ran my first marathon one month before surgery (ya..it took me almost nine hours to finish!!) and the second one was taken this morning (Mother's Day). I feel like I'm running a different kind of marathon now but I'm sure the finish line will feel just as amazing!!! -Amy

Hey fellow Double V's.. I haven't checked in awhile either. After my third fill a couple of weeks ago, I FINALLY got some restriction! It's been so great. I'm down 11 pounds since that fill and 38 total. People are really starting to notice and my size 16w jeans are too big:thumbup:. I was feeling really discouraged before this last fill. I had no restriction, wasn't losing, and like many of us second guessing the band. So, for those of you going thru BANDSTER HELL, please hang in there and know that the band DOES work it just takes some time. I'm sure my restriction will ease up over the next couple of weeks, but now instead of getting discouraged, I will know that another fill will get me where I need to be. So, I'm feeling pretty darn good right now and am even dabbling with the idea of taking some progress pics:redface:. Thanks to all of you for letting me share my up's and down's (literally) and know that the support here has been a huge part of my success!! Oh and Rhapsody.....haven't heard from you in awhile darlin'!! Are ya still swimming!!! -Amy

I busted through my plateau...
marathinner replied to BlessedTwice's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is SO awesome BlessedTwice! I had the same experience this week (actually this morning). I've been staying away from the scale because it just makes me crazy. I haven't weighed myself in over a week and my eyes almost popped out of my head this morning when I got on the scale and realized I'm down 11 pounds in two weeks:w00t:. I was SO happy!! I know I've been losing...especially inches because I've been doing alot of exercise, but WOW that felt good:thumbup:. So, I'm going to keep the scale on the back burner and keep doin' what I'm doin'!! Congrats again to you for your wonderful victory!! Gotta love the band!! -Amy -

Amen, Renewedhope! I couldn't have said it better myself. Actually, this thread helps keep me on track. I come here to "fess up" when I have a not so great day. I always feel better afterward and usually get right back on the bandwagon the next day. And donnabarney, if reading this thread "makes you sick", perhaps it would be better if you didn't read it!
