Hi, my name is Tammy and I live in South Tx, I have had a lap-band since 2007 but 2 months ago it slipped and due to my surgeon from 2007 no longer being on my insurance I had to seek out new surgeon, so after finally seeing him as a new pt and confirming the band slipped, I am preparing to have a revision, removing lap-band and having gastric bypass...I have completed the Cardiac clearance stress test, echo, PFT, psych eval and nutrition class on Wednesday and I have my appt for an EGD on Nov 14. When all the pre-op testing is complete I can hopefully set the surgery date. That's my story so far, I will update when I get more surgery info.

My surgery was 8 years ago, they may have improved their after care, that was also for the band....I know now there are many that operate as full service bariatric centers with classes etc....I just felt that once the procedure was done I was just dealing with his PA and just going to scheduled fills....it was his PA that kept telling me nothing was wrong for 9 months when I had a leak, it wasn't until his new PA (who was excellent, can't remember her name) that diagnosed my leak first time I saw her...I just felt that if I had seen him at least once in that 9 month period maybe it would have been different. I would still use him as a surgeon if my insurance covered it but would hope for more in the after care.

The band was ok at first but I did have to have second surgery to repair a leak in the port tubing and it seemed like I never got back on track, it did help with portions but it was too easy to eat "poorly" with the band.....I am working on pre-op testing for the revision surgery because the band slipped 2 months ago so I am getting the RNY gastric bypass....I can't say I'm not sorry to get rid of the band. Dr Marvin isn't on my insurance any more so I chose Dr. Garth Davis for my revision, and I am happy with my choice so far...I think the program he has will be beneficial for me, Dr Marvin didn't have a very structured after care back then, it was my only drawback with him as my surgeon. The actual surgeries went extremely well.

Band to RNY....Failure to Success?

I'm getting a revision as soon as my pre-op testing is complete, I've had the band since 2007 (repaired leak 2008) and it slipped 2 months ago...I'm so ready to get rid of it, it just never really worked for me. -
Dr Marvin did my band in 2007, excellent surgeon

I'm close to Galveston, Tx....about 30 min from Houston....I'm getting through my pre-op testing for a revision from my Band that slipped 2 months ago....once I finish with my EGD, I can set surgery....my surgeon will be Dr Garth Davis at The Davis Clinic...my previous surgeon was Dr Marvin for my Band in 2007 but he is no longer on my insurance, but I am very happy with Dr Davis
